simonas
Have this strange situation with door dimensions or maybe it is normal: Door width is 780mm, jamb is 45mm and rough opening is 10mm (I assume this means clean space - a gap from door frame when installing it, right?). But rough opening seems to be measured from door width - 780mm, not jamb (we call it door frame). Do I need to add jamb width+empty space in rough opening - If I want to have a gap of 10mm - I need to enter 55 (jamb plus gap)? Please explain me, maybe I miss something or it should be this way, if so I need some explanation.

Joe_Carrick
Simonas, Your dialog shows that the door has a jamb, but the plan view is not showing it. Either post the Plan, or just play with those settings until it comes out the way it should.
simonas
Joe, there is a jamb, its 45mm, but framing is going on top of it all the way to the door itself. Please check the plan. The only solution I see is to set 55mm for each side in rough opening dialog- this will include jamb (45mm) and a gap (10mm) for framing. Greg_NY61
Industry standard you should set your rough opening to be 2" (50.8mm) on your framing in dbx you have 10 mm which is not enough and if you include this into your plan details and a framer will follow the rough opening sizes as indicated on the plan, the guys who install doors they will have problems. Solution Joe_Carrick Posted February 8, 2015 Solution Share Posted February 8, 2015 Simonas, The Rough Opening Sides should be 10 mm more than the Jamb Width. So set the RO to 55 mm Sides & Top and the rebuild the Wall Framing.
simonas
Simonas, The Rough Opening Sides should be 10 mm more than the Jamb Width. So set the RO to 55 mm Sides & Top and the rebuild the Wall Framing. That's what I thought. I would like it to be more automatic. So you don't need to include the frame - rough opening should be a gap between framed door and a wall frame, not door panel. Thank you all for your help
Joe_Carrick
Yes, it would be better if "Rough Opening Sides" was labeled "Add for Rough Opening - each Side". The value is added to the Door Width, not the Door + Jambs
glennw
I find the door jambs pretty useless as they are only a rectangle. I would never use a jamb like that (except for an opening or sliding door. 99% of the time our door jambs are rebated for the door.
simonas
I just take widest point of frames we use for doors - its 45mm. But I agree Chief needs to fix frames, thresholds and much more in doors and windows.
