mulligan
X-10 This is probably something simple that I am just overlooking, but I am having trouble not displaying gable vents in plan view. I have attempted to simply change the layer from window to something else that I am not dispylaing, however when I do this it leaves a void in the wall where the vent would be. Any suggestions? joey_martin
The are probably in a gable ATTIC wall and the WALLS, ATTIC layer is not displayed.
mulligan
Yes they are in attic walls and I tried to to switch between displaying and not displaying the attic walls to no avail.
joey_martin
They are up a level? Just guessing without a plan file.
mulligan
Yes they are technically up a level but there is no option to view on level above with windows Ranch With trusses.plan

joey_martin
Cut and paste it in the attic wall above. I note vents when I don't want them to show.
mulligan
If I change the layer to something I am not displaying in this layer set I get the void in the wall.
mulligan
Thanks Joey, but my sales people are easily confused... It would be helpful if I could just not display it or else next thing I know I will have some crazy mulled window on site..
mulligan
I am about to just delete them and add a note. Need to get these plans off to the engineer by the morning.
mulligan
Thank you. I am not familiar with how to create the new symbol.
mulligan
Thanks so much solver. got it figured out!
mulligan
Here is the rub. In order to convert to a symbol it must be the only thing visible in 3d mode. Because technically it is a window it has to be placed in a wall and if I turn the wall display off poof the window/gable vent is also turned off. If I attempt to convert with the wall on, it converts both the vent and wall into a symbol.
Dermot
This looks like you put the vent in the main wall and then moved it up to the gable wall. Try putting the vent on the gable wall instead.
mulligan
Dermot, For some reason chief will not allow the vent to be place directly in the gable wall (maybe because it is auto generated?), so yes I can only place in the wall and drag up to the gable. mulligan
Solver I wonder why it won't let me> When I try to place it in the gable it automatically places at window height. The room divider and transforming to a symbol recommendation appear to be coming along I just have to manually move it to the right location in plan view to align with the wall cladding properly. rgardner
That is generally when the wall is balloon framed instead of having a gable wall.
mulligan
Thank you solver. A little trial and error with the symbol conversion got me where I need to be. rgardner. Bingo! I had the walls balloon framed (local code requirement). Un checking the balloon frame will place the vent above the gable but you can drag it down and it will not show up in the wall! Thank you guys!
