SECOND FLOOR - HOW TO CREATE A DECK OVER THE ROOM AT FIRST FLOOR

Recommended Posts

Hi all my masters,

I just learn Chief about 20 hours total so I have much missing knowledge.

My boss wants me to create a deck on second floor over a room at first floor. When I create a roof (Build roof plan - auto build), it looks so bad. The roof cannot cover the room at first floor.

Can some one please take a look on my attachment files and my plan? Please help me and give me your advises.

Thank you.

Chief will not auto build a roof over a deck with the OOB settings.

Open the deck room dbx.

Structure panel, Ceiling, check Roof Over This Room.

But...do you really want a deck room?

A deck is normally constructed with spaced timber decking - not waterproof!!!

You really just need to use a normal room type and work out how you want to waterproof it and define the floor construction accordingly.

As Glenn kindly pointed out there are some issues with your design as far as water penetration goes.  Maybe research using a Balcony room and build out the settings as he recommends with some form of water barrier and drain system to control the rain from getting into your home.

Yes try the Balcony Room , this will stop the insistent " deck over living space Error message" you can change the Balcony flooring to look like Decking.
