Dimension to sheathing layer

When building decks attached to the house, the default (seems to be) for the deck ledger attachment to default to the exterior of the stud framing .  I need to dimension the deck ledger to the exterior of the wall sheathing, as this is where it acutally attaches to the building exterior.

 

However, I cannot automatically or manually pull the dimension string to snap to the exterior side of the sheathing layer.    What setting do I need to change in order to accomplish this?

AFAIK you can't snap to sheathing. Use a Point-to-Point dimension snapped to the framing, then manually grab the dimension marker and move it to align with the sheathing.

Also remember to turn off auto deck framing when modifying a deck already built or it will change back.

I think he is referring to the fact that CA cuts the sheathing and Siding out around the Deck Ledger and butts it up to the Rim Joist , I have seen this with Wall ledgers too when doing Roof Framing.

 

A point to Point dim should still work though , after moving the Deck ledger out in Elevation of course.......

When you define your wall type if you set to dimension to exterior layer, choose OSB.This is the way I do it all the time. Also my deck band builds to the OSB layer as it should.
