X10 Performance Issues

Recommended Posts

Well, so far, I've had to go to a new video card and a solid state hard drive just to get X10 to work correctly. Now I'm wondering what the advantages are of 10 over 9. I talked to at tech last week about the huge size of the videos the that are created whenever you do a walk through (over 1GB). I was told that there's nothing you can do to reduce them other than upload to YouTube and send clients a link,. (However, I have found that you can convert them to mp4 and send them by email). Please tell me what I'm missing here about Chief X10.

well ,you could use the export Chief 3d viewer, it almost the same as a walk through but the client can move around wherever they want to view. Chief has the file on their servers.

Likely your preferences in X9 are different from X10 in regards to which CODEC is being used to create the walk through videos.

Take a look at this support article for more information on getting and using a different CODEC.

I talked to Nigel last week about the size of the files. He's the CODEC expert. He said there is no way to make the files smaller and suggested the YouTube route. :-)

Haven't used it. I may give it a try.

Take a look on the Render panel in your Preferences dialog.  The Codec for walkthrough recordings is likely set to IYUV.  This will result in the large files you describe.  If you look at your X9 preferences my guess would be you are using the XVID codec which is what we recommend.  Change X10 to use XVID and it should resolve the issue.

The Codec on my Mac for X10 is H.264 just like it has been in the past.

H.264 is a standard HD compression widely used.

Check Kirk Clemon's advice in your other thread in March JB, the Codec made a big Difference when I tried as he suggested.

I am looking to order a new desktop in the next few days. I went back and looked at previous threads but not much useful info on the new nVidia 2000 series cards as far as CA goes. I am looking at probably a GTX 1070 Ti or maybe a RTX 2070. Both have 8GB of memory. The 2070 is about $50 more over the 1070 Ti. Another approx. $380 to go to a RTX 2080. Any of you running one of the new cards yet? If so, any input would be appreciated. It is difficult to decide if they will be much of an improvement over say a 1080. The new unit I am looking at (Digital Storm) doesn't even offer a 1080 in the list for some reason. Trying to plan ahead as I don't upgrade but every 5-years or so.

In addition, would an I9-9900K be worth an additional $160 over an I7-9700K? I've been out of the loop on the processors for a long time. Like so many of you, I want mainly stability and the best bang for the buck. I do have the folks at Digital Storm overclock both the video card and the cpu within the limits of stability.

      Thanks in advance.

I know this is a little off the wall but is anyone using Microsoft's "Expression Encoder 4"? This is a FREE Screen recorder and works well on my laptop. However, when I installed it on my Desktop, the MIC does is not recognized. What is odd is the Mic IS recognized and works Windows 10 Pro but not in the app. I have searched all of the web and cannot find a solution.

      Thanks all,

P.S. I know there are other products but I'm keen on getting this to work. Guess it's the challenge.

      Hi There,

I am currently working on a video walkthrough tour of a four level building that has the Chief developers stumped as to why the camera will not consistently go up and down the four sets of stairs in my plan.

So I thought it might be a problem with my plan and while I am waiting for an answer back from Chief I have downloaded the X8 Modern Bungalow plan as used in training video #10033: https://video.chiefarchitect.com/?search=10033 and,   sure enough, the same problems are occurring there. I was able to get the camera to climb the stairs as described in the video but no luck going down.

If there is anyone who has mastered this move, I would love to hear from you.  Not too worried about the details as I know how to shoot a single level video, just need to get downstairs again.

Please see failed attempt in attached Plan.

We have a completed plan in Chief Architect 7 that needs some tweaking (make sure roof line is correct, finish on floors needs to be polished concrete, not aggregate, etc., all door finishes need to match) and someone to create a more photo realistic look (we think ours is a little cartooning looking, along with a 3D video walk through in MP4 format) - see attached photos and file.

This is now a time sensitive project so please contact me ASAP or directly at 310-720-2807 and cpmeister@istreem.net.
