Skylight Not Creating Hole in Ceiling

Recommended Posts

Hello Brilliant C.A. Users!

In the attached file, please take a look at the skylight over the Master Bath on the 2nd floor. It is not automatically cutting a whole in the ceiling plan. In the open object dialog box, the ceiling hole selections are grayed out, so I assume it has something to do with this.

Thanks

You need to pull the bottom edge of the skylight up so it clears the wall below.

Eric,

Any chance you can look at the skylight over the master bath? I decided to delete the skylight you adjusted. I did what you said over the master bath skylight and no luck. I also tried the same thing with the skylight you adjusted, and didn't have any luck. ? What the heck am I doing wrong?

That's the only skylight in the plan.

Cut the two cheek walls, go to the attic and Paste/Hold position. Set them as Attic walls.

Make the roof hole a rectangle -- there is a jog at one corner.

Align the front wall of the dormer with the wall below.

Pull the roof hole polyline across the wall and then snap to its face.

Join the roof to the top edge of the hole.

Not sure what the ceiling is supposed to look like.

This is a great problem to solve...  so many things to learn.  I spent a few minutes and I got the picture below.

If I get a chance,  I will do a video later today or tomorrow  (unless somebody does it first).  Lots of lessons to learn.

Eric,

Thank you for all of your time and help today. I can get the dormer to look correctly on the exterior - it is getting it to cut the ceiling so that you can see the dormer and window from the interior as well. I thought it was automatic (skylight has setting to automatically cut hole in the ceiling - except that mine is greyed out so I'm not sure if it it is set to do this or not).

D. Hall,

A video would be great! Dormers are a pain in the you know what....I seem to have more problems that not when trying to do a dormer.

As I mentioned above, when you drag the skylight out over the wall, it will no longer generate a ceiling hole.

You need to manually create your own hole. In plan, Draw a closed polyline, Convert Polyline, choose Hole In Ceiling Platform. Shape as required.

You can also draw in your own ceiling plane and create a hole with it.
