muztangFB Posted March 4, 2017 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I am a relatively new user of Chief Architect and, as a whole, it has been easy to use and has met my needs. However, I am having a difficult time understanding how to get a roof to build correctly. The bulk of the roof is a 10/12 pitch, with the gable walls having a 12/12 pitch. I have attached the plan as well as a screenshot showing the areas that I am having difficulties with. I am having four major issues. 1. There is an area on the back of the house where a roof plane abruptly changes pitch - creating a gap in the roof (blue arrow) 2. There is roof framing over the top of the deck (red arrow). 3. There are two areas on the front of the house that I would like to have not exist (ie, I want them to be part of the roof just behind/adjacent to them) - these areas also appear to have a different pitch (12/12?) than the main roof (10/12). (These areas are circled in red). 4. The roof on the portion of the garage that protrudes from the rest of the garage generates lower than the main roof (green rectangle). Any and all help and advice is greatly appreciated - I just can't seem to figure the roof tools out. RL-inc Posted March 4, 2017 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I am not at my computer to open the plan but this seems like a very complex roof to try and auto build for a new user. (Really a complex roof to auto build for an experienced user.) CA won't auto build different roof pitches- that must be done manually. As far as the roof areas you did not want, the generation of those is controlled by the room structure that they are associated with. You may want to look into the training videos and start playing with some simple models and manually editing- creating roof planes. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My progress is attached - I think I need more practice. Oh well, maybe I will do better in the morning with a fresh mind. Thanks again for the help. I had to tweak the floor plan a little to get it to look the way I wanted, but it was much faster that way and all in all I am content. Thanks again for the help. Ridge_Runner Posted March 4, 2017 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I don't know your requirements for the 2nd floor but I think I would have added some attic space (or living, whichever) on the 2nd floor on the left side with a two story roof hip - similar to what you have on the right side.
