Wholeheartedly agree. If Chief could produce a render as nice and fast as AI (on a Mac, tyvm), I would welcome a rendering upgrade. Otherwise, yes please just focus on fixing the lacking parametric objects, and giving us better tools for drawing plans and construction docs. CA Standard Render, 1s: CA CPU Ray Trace, 15 passes, 2:09m: (I prefer CPU RT because it shows nice shadows of 2D plants) CA GPU RT Ray Trace, 100 samples, 46s: ChatGPT Enhancement, 2:41m during heavy demand time (altered architecture): THAT ^ kind of rendering enhancement I would welcome. Otherwise, more meat and potatoes, please.

Chief calculates the minimum RO by adding the door size + jamb. If this total. is greater than the mfr RO spec, it bumps RO up to that total. It's a workaround, but you can turn off door jambs to control your RO based on mfr specs. Or reduce the door size by the amount of the jamb thickness, which throws off other stuff... If your door size + jamb is less than the specified RO, it's not a problem. But this should be fixed by allowing us to specify a door nominal size, and an actual door measurement. Or allowing us to override the minimum. I know, it's a Chief Thang™

Main difference, among others, standard text style, size, and color can be controlled by layer, allowing different styles for different plan views.

Different pony wall views in different plan views?
Chrisb222 replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Yes, in the SPV Edit Active View dialog settings: The Pony Wall must be set to "Use Default": -
You can get very close to #2. Select one door, then all doors in the plan using Match Properties, and set the 3D Display to Show Open: Then go to: 3D > Create Orthographic View > Orthographic Full Overview 3D > View Direction > Top View 3D > Rendering Techniques > Hand Drawn Lines 3D > Camera View Options > Cross Section Slider Check the top option and set the cut to around 60" or wherever you see the door header cropped out, so the doors look right: Send this to layout, Live View > Update on Demand Return to the floor plan, and turn off all layers except Room Labels and Rooms, Interior Dimensions: Send this to layout and position in place over the previously sent view: Voila!

You may have to hit the Make Room Molding Poyline edit toolbar button, and edit that section manually.

OMG WHY do we not have this???

None of that is useful whatsoever for me. Water animation? Seriously?!? Fix the stair tool.

I haven't downloaded X17 yet but there seems to be something amiss in your settings. I use the tool all the time and have none of these issues.

In 2D CAD Detail, you can use your break line as the end of the "slab" ploy line, then extend lines out. On a Plan View or when working with Objects, I copy/paste the break line, then add lines to create a closed poly line I can then fill white, and turn off the line, so it covers the part I want hidden. Then "bring to front" the original line so it's not also partially hidden. If I'm going to use it again, I block it and save to my library

Not an automatic fix, and maybe not the best method, but I tend to favor fast fixes that don't break anything else. This took about 2 minutes including studying the model to see what's what - the structural is correct so it was just a matter of getting the frieze to cooperate. I moved the frieze on that roof plane out 4", then manually modified the returns: 69204-23E CB.plan.zip ================== PS just looking quickly, it seems you're not fully leveraging Saved Plan Views. At a minimum, set the default floor level for SPVs where that matters and where it can can save a few clicks. Eg, if I'm on my foundation view, and I switch to Roof Planes, I want the SPV to move me to the roof level.

When I open your upper pony wall and Copy the wall type, and change the shingle layer to .875 but change nothing else, it does not move the main layer. Not sure why that's happening, seems like a bug, but I would simply create the new wall type, change all the exterior walls to use the new type, and move on with life. "It's a Chief Thang"™

Easily done, once you understand how it works. Difficult to explain in a few lines, here's some homework for you: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03185/understanding-saved-plan-views.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00765/understanding-layer-sets.html

Turn off Grid Snaps: Or, you can edit the Grid Snaps settings here: There is also a toolbar toggle button for Grid Snaps on/off.

How to label a window with the Schedule callout, but NOT the shape?
Chrisb222 replied to BrianMSmith's topic in General Q & A
You have to change it for every window already placed in the plan. Multi-select works if you select all single windows at once and change their labels, then select all mulled windows at once and change theirs. You can't change labels if you select single with mulled. Then if this is what you always want, just add that label to your default window and it will work for singles and mulled. -
Not sure exactly what you're after, but if it's just a visual of the plywood in 3D and you can calculate the qty another way, that's easily doable: Change your OSB material to have an offset grid, then in a 3D view use the Delete Surface tool (3D > Delete Surface) to temporarily remove the surface material (which doesn't truly delete it, it regenerates automatically).

If it's just a text Callout object, you should be able to switch to an arrow facing the opposite way:
-
If the current arrow direction represents the view direction of the section view, I would not change it. That would have a high possibility of causing confusion on what the view depicts, and you don't really want that. Why not just scoot them to the left, so the arrows point to the posts, and also stay consistent with the section view?

Problems with the Exporting Plan to PDF file
Chrisb222 replied to ChiefUserNurin's topic in General Q & A
I'm confused. You're asking about a template layout, but show a SS of exporting a PDF. Export of PDF is only available in a .plan file, not a .layout. Typically we "print" a PDF from a layout using the Print command. You'll get help with a better explanation of your problem, and/or posting the problem file. -
The stock X16 Residential Template file has a "Kitchen and Bath Dimension Default" which conforms to NKBA, and has more flexibility than the old NKBA settings. Check for it under your Dimension Defaults.
