  1. Thanks for that info Barton!
  2. OK figured it out. The dbx will only allow you to change whatever arrows you highlight. The Object Layer Properties changes the default of the arrow lines, so that the next time you draw one it will be the color that you chose. Thank you..
  3. Yes, had that backwards. 3D GPU Raytracing CPU. It would be nice to know where high end gaming cards fall off, I've read that people who've spent oodles for super fast gaming cards have not seen that much difference. I don't know, another one of life's mysteries. I'm still interested in knowing whether Chief is programmed to take advantage of more than 4 cores? They say as many cores as possible, so I'm assuming so.
  4. If you go local, find someone with workstation experience. Gaming cards have a diminishing return for cad applications, super fast refresh rates are not going to help with Chief Raytracing. For Chief 3D you want as many cores as possible, fast ram and an SSD in conjunction with your HD. It does beg the question of whether Chief is programmed to take advantage of AMDs 8 core processors over Intel quads. Intel uses superior silicon, but it all depends on how chief is programmed to know which will run faster. If anyone has inside info on that, please pipe-up. I'm going to try an AMD 8 core chip for fun in a few weeks.
  5. Hi All, OK, I'm a ditz. I want my arrow lines to be red and the Floor plan text to be black. I can get the arrow head to default to red, but how do you set defaults for the arrow lines. Thanks very much, Barry
  6. I find myself doing a lot of this and wondered if there's a better way. I use the transform replicate, figure out which axis I'm moving along and type in 2'. Repeat 6 times. Is there another way, like where you start to move the object then type in 2'? Thanks amigos, Barry
  7. Many of those old inquiries were mine. It seems that when some people set it to zero it works to scale correctly when zooming, but it never did for me, I feel your pain, it makes working really messy. I changed my default dimension size to 3 and then it seemed to work correctly. I change it back at the end of the plan. But now it seems to work even at 4.5, but I don't know what changed--might have been an update--from chief or NViDia.
  8. Thank you thank you. I knew it was there somewhere. It's so quaint having toggles for everything rather than just being able to click on it and delete? Thanks again, very helpful. Cheers!
  9. Hi again, I tried all the usual, changing distances between posts and wall elevation camera--there is no open wall detail camera for railings? What am I missing? Thanks amigos, Barry
  10. I don't love mine, I had some years ago that seemed to work well, but can't remember what those were. I'm working on a good logical hotkey list that I'll post later in the week. Thank you, Barry
  11. Move to front tool bar button....what will they think of next. I hadn't ever seen that, I've always looked in the DBX, I'm making a hotkey for the sucker. Thank you.
  12. Hi all, Furniture doesn't seem to have a send to back, send to front option. Is there a way to make furniture look right in the plan? It's just sloppy looking when all but one chair is either over or under a table? Thank you, Barry
  13. Thanks for all the answers! From what I gather, if you want to align an interior wall to an exterior wall, you have to go in and change the default wall settings to align to interiors. That's 6 clicks--should be available on the right click. The reason it's easier sometimes than others depends on which wall alignment default you have set at the moment. If you don't have the correct wall alignment set for the present condition (align main layer outside) you have to go in and change it, if you have the correct wall alignment set for the present condition (align main layer inside) it snaps life magic.
  14. Oh, you mean dormer hell, that's normal. You're going along in a plan thinking I'm going to actually make this one pay off, then you spend 3 hours making dormers look right inside and out. Yeah maybe next time you'll remember all the work arounds that you did to make that look right....not. I"m only creating modern houses without dormers these days--haha. Sorry lady, Chief boy don't do dormers anymore--I wish that were the case.
  15. Now that i zoom in I see that my mouse cross hairs to align...man I swear they weren't before....call me crazy. Sorry about that.
  16. Thanks Michael, I'm not trying to drag a wall next to another wall, but align a wall 3 rooms away with no common walls to dimension from. That's where a line shooting across the plan would help. Does that exist for anyone or does everyone draw a cad line and align to that?
  17. Do you guys get a line shooting out from the main layer or whatever layer you've choose as your wall align layer? Maybe it's my imagination. If not how does one align a wall from across rooms? Thanks
  18. yes, they are, but I don't they don't give me a line when I move a wall from the middle, but than you Perry.
  19. Hey all, I know there's got to be a better way. I looked up a Scott Hall Vid on wall alignment and it looks like when he grabs a wall, a line shoots out from the main layer to extend across the model so you can see when you're aligning main layer across the room. That doesn't happen when I grab a wall, does anyone know where the setting is for that? I use the cross hairs cursor, but cursor cross hairs don't don't align with anything in particular when you grab a wall. Thanks very much, Barry
  20. Hi, Thanks guys, I tried Delete Objects before I wrote in and it still created multiple dim lines on the interior. It seems like it's a dim over dim sort of non refreshing thing. Auto Refresh Dims is only available in the Auto Exterior not interior. I'll try the Auto Refresh on the exterior to see if it helps dup exterior dims. Cheers!
  21. If you need to see time entries included with the invoice, you have to tweak the template by checking off time in edit template. Their help response is fast if you write them with a question.
  22. Hi, This would be a great tool if I didn't have to spend all the time deleting repeat dimension strings. Under Default settings, Auto Interior Dims I only have Surfaces checked and nothing else. But still I get strings repeating in some parts of the house up to 5 times? I deleted all objects and tried several different approaches but still the same thing. Just wondering if anyone has unlocked the secret of taming the Auto Dim tool. Thank you, Barry
  23. Under the 3D menu, 3D View Defaults, the Auto Rebuild Terrain was unchecked. I checked it and it's gone.
  24. Hi All, If I build terrain again, it goes away for a bit, but comes back. Anyone ever had this issue? I called and they said it's an out of date driver issue, but I'm using up to date drivers, with an NVIDIA 675m which I've not had any issues with and which shows up in the Chief open GL Driver DBX. 6.4.0 latest Chief. Thanks mucho, Barry
