  1. Yes! I hadn't done this before, but it's pretty slick. Thanks Perry
  2. Brilliant! Thanks Greg, that was much less painless than I thought it would be. Thanks you all for the input.
  3. Hi, I'm building a decorative hood and need to turn a crown molding up side down for one of the parts--the wide part of a flared molding is on the bottom. I've not had to do this before and can't figure out a way. Soffits don't invert, and I can't seem to flip a molding polyline, but maybe I'm missing something. I guess I can draw an upside down profile, but was wondering if there's an easier way? Thank you all, Barry
  4. Hi Michael, Thanks for the video...I've been chasing deadlines on multiple projects and hadn't seen it until now. I am familiar with the process and limitations, but it just wasn't working that day. I was just wondering if anyone else has had intermittent issues with the hole tool? It seems possible that it's constrained by something some times. None the less thank you for the great followup. Cheers! Barry
  5. It seems it's more reliable when both polylines are at their default thickness. To change thickness, I clicked on both the hole and solid and changed them both at the same time. I was essentially doing the same thing manually which works most of the time, but it's being fickle today. Gremlins.
  6. I encounter this issue intermittently, I thought it was more common. I spoke with Nigel at tech support, he's very familiar with the issue, he said to turn the lines back into 2D polylines then back into polyline solids. He said it's not a perfect science. It works about 90% of the time, it's a glitch with the program. I wasn't successful with that approach, going to restart and see if that helps. It's a polyline solid within a polyline solid, the inner one with hole in p-sollid checked, lines touching on both sides from 2d view, all the way it usually works, but just not working. Will include pictures next time, was on my way to a meeting. Cheers! Barry
  7. Hey all, I'm doing it the same way I've always done it, but for some reason it's not working today. I've tried several times, converting back in forth between line and polyline, encompassing and not encompassing... Anyone have any other tricks when it's tenaciously not wanting to work? Thank you, Barry
  8. Hi Bill, Thanks for helping me trouble shoot this. So when you print in gray scale does your text print light? Do you change all your text layers back to black before you print? Cheers! Barry
  9. Thanks everyone. Same conclusions I came to--block them or loose them. I create most of my arrows on the plan, but some on layout. We should be able to create arrows on the layout without this issue. Thanks again, Barry
  10. Plan background: Preferences, Appearance, Background, Black Hi, Most black items inverse themselves: walls, cad lines, dimensions lines etc,, except for text including dimensions text? It seems that someone at chief was thinking about black background inversion, but perhaps stopped before they got to text... Anyone using back background successfully? How do you deal with text? I generally have all my text in black so it will print dark when grayscale. Thanks for you consideration, Cheers! Barry
  11. Hi all, When I send a plan to layout, then use text arrows to point things out, the arrows drawn on the layout sheet shift around whenever the main plan window is resized or sometimes just if it's opened or closed, and sometimes even when you open or close another window on a different page? It's freaking annoying when on a deadline, and just a huge time waste anytime. Does anyone know what causes this and how to stop it from happening? Perhaps I could block them, but I'm assuming when I unblock to add more, they would jump anyway. Thank you for taking the time, I always appreciate the help. Barry
  12. Richard...that's it! Yes, using minimal boarder space around the text helps cut down on the issue. It is indeed an issue that should be fixed. Thank you. Barry
  13. Hi Mark, No, I had thought of that also, good guess, but it's not on. It seem to be a issue with being too close to text or a cad line or some combo of the two. I can make it work when I'm away from the building. I made one work, the then copied in place and dragged it over and over, yet another work around is born. It's an odd issue that seems to be more prevalent when making arrows on the layout, I've rarely had this issue persist in plan view. But yes it looks just like the jpg you've posted. Thanks for your consideration. Cheers! Barry
  14. Hi all, When I use line with arrow, or what is called text line with arrow--not leader line, And I grab the end handle to elbow that arrow line, I invariably get an arrow at the elbow and at the end; the lines don't conjoin to create one arrow head. This only happens in layout. I get a red intersection point, it should conjoin... It's being very fickle. I have typical wall sections with text already filled in so I don't want to use the leader line which seems to work fine but it's extra clicks. Am I missing something? Thank you, Barry
  15. And Joseph, thanks for the graphic that helped solidify the concept. Cheers!
  16. Thank you all for the good info. It's going to take a day to absorb what Carrick is saying, but that's what I'm after. A quick way to choose and change when needed. Thanks again, Barry
  17. Hi, I have a nicely laid out plan on an 18x24 layout sheet, but I need to upsize to 24x36. What's the best way to get all the info from one to the other? Thank you, Barry
  18. Thank you for the suggestions. After reading all the work-arounds I'm certain we've proven why Apple Computer excluded program engineers from their usability meetings. An amazingly complex system for a simple task. Chief! I just want to move a ball around structure that emits light, not program the freaking solar system. Thanks again for all your help. Cheers! Barry
  19. Hi, I can appreciate all the tools we have to get the sun just right, but most of the time I just want some sun in the window for a good render... I know we can make multiple sun angle and adjust..blah and adjust more blah blah. But would anyone be against a suggestion for a simple sun angle tool like is used in Sketchup? Thank you, Cheers and godspeed to you and your planning department? Barry 46 remodel design/plans since Jan...so yes, any efficiency makes a difference.
  20. Thank you David, This explains what I'm seeing. These detail pages are made up of details that are not the same scale, but formatted to fit a grid. So what Chief is showing me is the Model space page and not the successive neatly gridded paper space pages. . Both Model space and paper space pages show in my DWG viewer, but only the model space page shows up when I import the DWG into Chief. So how do I get Chief to show me the paper space pages as they show up in my CAD viewers. BTW, the DWG was exported to 2010 AutoCAD would a 2014 DWG export make a difference. Thank you very much for your prior answer and for considering my quandary Barry
  21. Hi all, When I view this dwg in a CAD viewer, it shows a model space page and then page 1, 2, 3. The model space page is all that shows up in Chief and it isn't formatted properly. Anyone know how I can get the other pages to show up in Chief? They are not there when I open project browser. I came across the following from the help files, but I'm not sure what it means and I need to translate instructions to the person sending me the DWG....Can anyone tell me how to describe to the exporter what needs to take place so I have a file that looks right in chief? Thank you, thank you.. Barry Model Space vs Paper Space Only items in AutoCAD's Model Space are imported into the current view in Chief Architect. Items on the first page of Paper Space are imported as a CAD block and will be listed in the CAD Block Management dialog. Items on subsequent pages of Paper Space are not imported.
  22. Hey, thank you both--It seems I knew that once upon a time....getting old I guess. I'll tattoo it on my forehead. Too bad we can't hotkey that puppy... Cheers!
  23. Hey all, I'm not sure how they get off to begin with--sometimes I wonk them manually, and sometimes it's a roof plane impeding, but wall heights invariably get off track. I really don't know a fast way to get them all back to proposed plate height once they're off. Neither: Default settings, regenerating using F12, or match properties seems to reset them once they're off. I'm sure someone out there has an obvious answer to this... would you please be so kind to share... Interior and exterior... Cherio, Barry
