  1. Would love to know the answer to this as well, please let me know if you've found an answer. I'm sure it would take many conversions. I've had good success importing 3ds and seating it into the house, but that's it. Cheers!
  2. Hi, I've found a bunch, but most of them are collections of manufacturer details. Anyone know a common detail repository--I don't care if it's paid subscription as long as it's well organized and has everything:) Thank you, Barry
  3. But now that I play with this, I see why it's hard to change joist direction because both floor joists are stacked on top of each other. Question: what's does the ceiling structure change? I placed 17 into ceiling structure and it doesn't seem to change the cross section?
  4. Thank you Perry and all! Yes, big help. This is the info I needed to first frame auto, then make adjustment to framing direction manually. Side note: Ripping off the old ceiling can work sometimes, but is often much more costly, that's why we do it this way--as well as ease of plumbing, hvac and electrical for the new space. You can't tear off lath and plaster ceilings without affecting the rest of the walls, so it works well in older houses. Cheers! Barry
  5. Thank you Dennis and Scott! I will play with both methods to familiarize with attributes and issues. I probably will need to control joist direction.. Scott... the last part of that sentence...leave empty and come back later and add ceiling or roof plane. Do you mean...pop in a roof plane where the old ceiling is to generate joist ends for the cross section after I generate 3Ds? All I really need is a a big empty space between the top and bottom plates that looks good from the outside and acts correctly from the inside. I can fill in my own framing. Thanks again, very helpful... Cheers! Barry
  6. Hi, This is something that comes up all the time in remodels: I would like to show framing for the following. Second story addition over existing ceiling framing: Leave existing ceiling / attic floor--2x6 or 2x8; (existing ceiling will be blocked at rim joist). Add new rim and TJIs on top of existing ceiling framing. Not between existing ceiling because often ceiling joists change direction. Question is: What would be the fastest way to have Chief generate this automatically? Do you think I could add a floor between with 1/4" ceiling ht, then add a third floor as my second floor? What would be the most stable approach? Thank you, Barry
  7. Ahhh, I usually have file checked, it was off, but in either case, yes, unfiltered should bring up all instances because one doesn't know that there's a file called file cabinets. As I was going through the library, I realized what is missing is a Thumbs view like we have in google or craig's list. That would helps speed up the process particularly for those of us using a separate monitor for the library. Thanks for your help, checking folder does bring up file cabinet. Cheers!
  8. Because it resides in Chief Architect Bonus Catalog / Storage Furniture / in a folder called File Cabinets and in there it's called-- Legal (2 drawer) One's search for File doesn't bring up the folder called File Cabinet---WTF? None of the folder names are associated with search? 70,000 items in the library.....if you can find them. Chief, pease fix your Library search, it's one of the major time wasters in the program. Thank you, Barry
  9. Hi Joe, thank you for the advice. I was thinking it was something like that. Barry
  10. file should be attached now...please let me know if not..Thank you.
  11. I know how to create a fence from the library, but how to create a custom fence without getting into stacking slabs or polyline solids. Thank you, Barry
  12. I was hoping they fixed all the export CAD issue over the years, but I see it's still the same unprofessional garbage...Sorry I'm using Chief Architect apologies to be included in my salutations.
  13. Thank you Scott, that makes sense, I'll create the same, thanks for your example. Cheers! Barry
  14. Yes, perhaps I was caught in that edit quagmire, I'm not sure what happened, but that sounds like it may be the case. Thanks, I'll have to pay attention as to whether or not I changed them. B
  15. I had used a manufacturer door from the library, but I see I have to use a stock framed glass door.... Yah mon...Thank your for all your help. Is there anyway to duplicate that with the Object Eyedropper? I tried door style, but that didn't seem to work? Cheers and thanks again. Barry
  16. HI, Perhaps I'm doing it wrong. I was hoping splitting cabinets would allow us to easily create wall cabinets with upper doors glass and lower doors solid, but it doesn't seem to work by using the sprayer--the fastest way of showing a client how that option would look. Am I missing something? I'm back to creating separate lower and uppers...hmm Thank you, Barry
  17. HI, I just want Auto NKBA to dimension cabinets and fixture centers. It wants to include window openings even after I've shut off openings in all dimension dbx's. Anyone know why this might be? Thank you, Barry
  18. Hi, Anyone else find this to be true. Deleting them manually won't let you re auto dimension because to do so they need to be deleted via Delete Objects / Auto Dimension--catch 22 Thank you, Barry
  19. Thanks for the cross check, Scott.. Walking through it with Alan, he at first said that it depended on the surface and whether or not I chose material from within properties or whether I sprayed it on, but I get the black mirror even with a stock library mirror. Unchecking legacy does fix this, but degrades the image. I just loaded the new nvidia drivers that came out last month and still the same issue. Cheers!
  20. This is what came back from tech support--So I wasn't imagining things--I had infact added extra lights which I had neglected to mention to you all yesterday. There were six in this little space. That oversight might have been why others weren't getting the black mirror from hell scenario. Hi Barry, I have looked at your plan and have been able to replicate what you are experiencing. It looks like there is an interaction between using Legacy Shadows, lights, and mirrors that makes the mirrors darker with more lights added to the room. I have reported this limitation with Legacy Shadows to our developers so that they can work to resolve this issue. In the meantime, I would suggest leaving Legacy Shadows off so that your mirrors will work correctly. Additionally, you can send multiple views to Ray Trace and leave them working overnight. I know many people will do this so as to avoid slowing their computer while at work. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Alex Parenti Chief Architect Technical Support
  21. I found an old post about google data being a bunch of triangles. I think I once saw someone translate such triangle data to topo line either in rhino or sketchup. At that point perhaps it could be exported as a 3D dwg. Has anyone done this with any success? It sure would be nice to be able to use Google Earth for terrain data--it would be like the future, but only now. Cheers!
  22. Hi! Just a thought as I'm sitting here drawing up terrain so I can create an entry guard fence to a house about 100 yards beyond rolling hills yonder. Has anyone tried or had any success with merging google earth pro files with chief. I don't really know what format they export in. Any help would be...well...helpful:) Thank you, Barry
  23. So shadows and highlights are smoother with legacy shadows checked. I"m sending my system info file to chief to see if they know any more about this. Will report if they come up with something. Thanks for all your help..
