  1. Yes!!!! Legacy Shadows was it! That's crazy. So am I loosing render quality by not having legacy shadows checked?
  2. I'm on the phone with Chief...I'm totally stumped, but it's important I get this working, it's killing my renders and I don't have an option. I'm no employed with a company that expects everything to look good to close sales, I can't have black mirrors.
  3. That's the only mirror I have. I just posted the plan, curious to see if anyone else get's a black mirror with their settings and video card. In preferences I tried all the different hardware edge settings too x2.ect.
  4. Here's the plan, yes, should have done this a while ago Mirro plan issue.plan
  5. Here's what I see in preview and final view with shadows. All preferences set to normal of what everyone has sent.
  6. Here's a render of a plan from 2012. It's dark, but not as dark. This is probably closer to normal. The settings in properties are about the same. Is there any other setting that controls mirror darkness? Thanks again?
  7. Yes, all those specs are the same. I get a good reflection in preview, but turns black in render. This I true other rooms I've tried this mirror material in too..
  8. Perry.. I tried the reflections and transparency check and uncheck in the final view section of preferences before I finally gave up and wrote to the group, trying again, but little hope. So no one else is getting this black in final view render? To summarize: It looks correct in raytrace, it's black only in render final view-- with or without reflections checked in preferences.
  9. Hi Perry, Yes, mine is set to the same for both properties and general tabs. Thanks for posting that...I'm using the newer library mirror I guess, I'm looking to find an old plan for an older library item to see if it makes a difference. Or if someone has mirror in a plan they know works in render please send so I can see if it's a setting. Sorry to be a bother, I appreciate all the help. I'm at work and have to get this image to a client, but it looks like ****. I can just turn it gray for now, but would like to know why it's so black. cheers! BTW. I'm using using a nvidia gtx 760.
  10. Using the rainbow tool, it says material mirror and it shows up as a gray pattern. In properties it's at 100% reflection, but that's for RayTrace only. In Raytrace it looks good, it's only black in render views. As per Perry's suggestion, I'm looking up an old plan to see if I can find a different mirror material.
  11. Thank you all, I'm still working on it. Alan, I'd like to try that object you sent via a plan file, but I can't open it because you're using a newer version of the program--are you testing beta 7? I thought I did have the latest version. Please send again, that would be the best way to know if it's my material or settings. Thank you, Barry
  12. Hi all, It's hard to sell doom.... It looks good in raytrace, but bad in final view render. Is it like that for everyone, or do I have a render setting on that should be off? Anyone experience this? This happens with reflections turned on or off--transparency too. Thank you, Barry
  13. Image attached now.... Alan that will give me the shape I want, but I can't tilt that shaped polyline back at an angle. Thanks again
  14. Akk, I can't seem to attach an image after the fact....will have to create another entry. Alan that will give me the shape I want, but I can't tilt that shaped polyline back at an angle.
  15. Hi! Sometimes the simplest things allude me in Chief--like how to shape and tilt a sandwich board.. Please see attached image with explanation text included. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks very much, Barry
  16. Can't believe they haven't addressed the GUI in this upgrade--very disappointing, it's old, cumbersome and a carpal tunnel nightmare. I think most of us would jump ship if a similar program came along with a ribbon GUI. Jumping in and out of windows and tabs to accomplish a simple task is absurd and anyone who thinks not is uninformed or a luddite. Stairs are also ridiculous compared to all the competition. Framing I find more easily accomplished with an arrow that says 2x12 goes this way, as architects have been doing forever. Better Terrain tools anyone?
  17. The ability to rename, reorganize and rid unnecessary garbage from the main libraries. Updating manufacturer libraries would not renew garbage we got rid of. Better library organization and distribution on the Chief Site. Search sub categorization that can be controlled by the user, so we can control search terms for items. Library search is abysmal.
  18. Hi, So two floor areas meet at different angles. I thought I'd copy the texture file and rename so I could change the angle of one. But it's a zipped texture file and I can't locate it through the Define Materials, Texture Source window. I guess I really don't know how to do what I want do do.. Anyone out there have a better way? Thank you, B This is the file I want to change angles on: C:\Users\Barry\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X6 Data\Templates\TemplateTextures.zip#zip:Medium-r(80).jpg
  19. Perhaps I have a missing person file, I don't know.... I can never find anything useful by searching the library. In the future, I wish they would allow us to edit library content, or better yet, organize it with names that make sense. Or better yet, create a program that allowed multiple Sketchup library items to be imported at the same time. If anyone makes a program like this for Chief, I would buy it, because it's easier to search Sketchup content then find stuff in the Chief Library. Rant, rant, rant. So many library items, so little time--to search each individual one I might need and add it to my user library under a name I can find later....blah.... barry
  20. http://www.sips.org/ One could debate the merits of them, I don't think they're worth the price for vertical surfaces in the N.W., but they have their place in some vaulted roof applications. They can also be problematic if interior moisture builds up. Anyway the client is interested in using them for a vaulted roof. SIPs are used quite often around here, much more so than barrel roofs which Chief is capable of handling just fine.
