  1. Hi, Isn't there a way to explode a polyline so all the lines become different segments? I'm almost certain I've done this in chief before, but can't find the command. Ultimately I want to chamfer the corners of a polyline rectange, I can't seem to do it while it's a polyline, maybe I'm missing something? Thank you, zzzzz
  2. Thanks Joseph, when you put it that way it does sound easier to just do it the old way. I've tried Auto Elevation Dimensions, but It takes more time to figure out and discard all the dimensions I don't need than just doing them manually.
  3. Hey all, Has anyone tried creating macros for elevation dimensions like: Ridge 2nd floor plate ht. 2nd floor. HDR. 2nd floor Platform Ht. (Unfinished floor) 1st floor plate ht. 1st floor. HDR. 1st floor Platform Ht. (Unfinished floor) Top of Stem wall Bottom of Footing? Just wondering if it can be done and if it's worth having.. I always have to go back and reference the DBX for all these heights, if I had some macros on the elevation It would at least jog my memory. Thanks for considering, and cheers! Zowie
  4. Yes, this is true, but that's a slow process, and when you want to edit one you have to resave. CAD details exist for a reason, We can export so many things, it seems strange CAD details aren't one of them. I feel like I'm overlooking some way to move CAD details by bulk? Anyone?
  5. Thanks for your input Joseph, I guess the issue I've run into with templates is that I never go back and update my good productivity ideas to the template. Sometimes they're slight tweaks that I do on the fly and forget about, but find myself redoing them again on the next plan/layout. I'm feeling I could cut down on repetitive tasks if I build on each plan/layout, which the S.A.M allows. That being said, some people want 18x24 and others want 24x36, so I already have two different animals to tend to even with the S.A.M. It would be great if layouts scaled more easily. Z.
  6. Hi all, I know CAD details can be laid out grouped and copied to another plan but I don't see a way to export CAD details from one plan and import to another. Maybe this is why people keep them in a separate plan because they can't be migrated very easily? Is there a way to do the above? Thanks again, Zowie
  7. Hi, I"m reorganizing my systems and have been reading many strategies of how people organize their details and notes. I like Scott Halls Save As Method (S.A.M) because all improvements to layer/anno and all else are there and in place for the next plan/ layout. Here's the question: Some people suggest keeping a plan just to store cad details and notes. So at a minimum you'd have 3 files associated with any one job: a layout, working.plan and a detail.plan. What is the advantage of keeping details and notes in a separate plan as opposed to the main plan particularly if you're using the save as method? Thanks for your consideration, Zowie
  8. Oh, even better, thanks! That's what I was looking for...I had spent so much time changing things. This is so much nicer.
  9. Ah, thank you, I was wondering if I got the choice later. I guess I should have checked before asking. Cheers!
  10. Hi, I have cabinets from one plan that I want to use in another plan-- and add more cabinets, but my defaults are different, can I migrate cabinet defaults without killing all my other defaults? What's the best way to migrate cabinet defaults? Thanks for considering.. Cheers Z
  11. Hello, I've always wondered if there was another way..Picking up chief after many years and the following is still not intuitive. Once I type into a text box, is there another key combo to OK text as opposed to picking up the mouse and manually clicking OK/close? That part's intuitive but slow...the issue follows. I know there's a toggle which allows you to use the enter key to OK/close text, but a lifetime of using the enter key to move to the next line always screws me up. It seems like a more friendly combination would be to allow enter to move to the next line as--god intended it:), then use cont/enter to OK/close. Is there any other combo that closes out a text box is what I'm asking? Thank you, Z
  12. Hi All! How do I get floor and ceiling joists to show as one line instead of two. It just makes the plan look less busy. I've seen it in Scott Hall's videos, but I can't find the setting? Thank you, Z
  13. I tried adding a label prefix from the schedule window, that added an (E) globally which can't be overridden with specify label. There seems to be some confusion about label and number in the programming. Hard to explain. May Existing labeled objects are windows and doors that will be different in each job, I'm not sure storing them in the library would work. Hard to keep track of old and new stuff in large demos. Thank you for your suggestions.
  14. Hi all, I label existing doors and windows on the schedule by opening them one at a time, checking specify label, and placing an (E) before the label. It shows up on the schedule. Is there a faster way to do this? Thank you, z
  15. Thank you, yes two version of the program will open using the control key. Not recommended??
  16. Hi All, I want to grab a bunch of stuff from an old layout but can't open two layouts. Been a while, but I thought that used to be possible? Can't always cad block everything to stick into libraries. What's the best way to do this? Thank you, z x6
  17. Weird, seems to be working now...sorry about that.. not sure what the heck is going on, but wasn't able to get it to work before.
  18. Hi all, I must be missing something. If you type in, exterior stair, nothing comes up, but if you type in, exterior wood stair, you get something. That's not a keyword search, that's an exact phrase search. Is there a way to search the library by more than one word that's not an exact name--key words? Thank you, Z
  19. Thank you Perry. Still no fast way to do this so the casing shows around the whole opening--still the same old work around. Cheers!
  20. Hello all, I know this has been discussed many times before, but I can't find anything using search. The kitchen entry is an opening conjoined to a window opening. You know, range sit's below the half wall part and door is next to it. What's the best way to make this look seamless in chief? Thank you, Z
