  1. Hi, We've found major text formating issues sharing layout/plans between Mac and PC. Since there are many more users of Chief using PC, you might want to stick with PC until they get fixed. But if you're using it yourself, then it should be fine.
  2. Happy holidays everyone! I find that keeping Wall Material on in cross section adds a bunch of lines into the cross section and if you turn off wall materials, it leaves a big hole in the wall. So I end up creating a cad detail of the cross section to rid all these lines. It would be nice if wall materials wouldn't leave a hole when it was turned off in cross section? Has anyone found a way around this? Thank you, Barry
  3. Thanks Perry and Jonathan, both good suggestions! Perry, I haven't caught on to the power of macro labels yet, I will have to open my brain to these this year. they look useful. Jonathan, thanks also, I'm a fan of the match options tool, but hadn't used it for labels. Cheers and thanks for all your help this year.
  4. Hi, I like room labels running in the same direction and the word CLOSET doesn't fit in a 24" width. So in every plan I change all my closet labels (one at a time) to CL. Just wondering if anyone would be opposed to suggesting CL. as the default to save time. Thanks and Happy Hollidays! Barry Preemptive (I know a lot of you don't use room labels for expediency, but I do because my project managers like having the sq. ft. of each room for costing). Cheers! Another opportunity would be the ability to highlight more than one room at a time to change room labels. That would be even more useful.
  5. Hi, Looking forward to X8 changes, but please don't forget to add: 1. Wall cabinet top height to the cabinet DBX. It's very cumbersome to align the tops of cabinets in Chief when cabinets are of differing sizes. 2. Better library search ability. The number 1 time waste in Chief is finding things in the library. The search capability is 1986, it's broken up into too many areas, bonus main and manufacturer. Of all the updates for x8, better library organization, classification and search would save the most time. Cheers! Barry
  6. Hi All, That's about it, just seems to be fickle about printing translucent hatch lines. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Thank you, Barry
  7. Ah ha! That works for me. Thanks Michael! Spray it away....
  8. Hi, I don't see a way to group select cameras. What's the easiest way to create room elevation cameras on their own layer. Do I have to open each individually to get them on their own layer. I have 9 cameras in a room associated with the cabinet design that I don't want on a structural floor plan. I'm sure someone must have run into this and found a better way. Thank you, Barry
  9. never mind, I got it....I was going into object layer properties as apposed to line specifications. Thank you anyway
  10. Hi All, Imported DWG....line colors can't be changed. When I look at the properties of the yellow line...Ext-Walls, it says it's black, but it's yellow on the screen. If I choose a different color for them, they won't change to that color? I imported them with default settings. Each on it's own layer.... Attached is the plan and an image. Thanks for considering. Cheers! Barry DWG CAD import.zip Exsiting Wall Yellow Example.zip
  11. Hi all, Anyone know why a cad line showing as yellow--Existing Walls in this case, show in layer properties as black. Meaning I can't change them to black because their layer properties are already black, but they show as yellow? I can't change them to any color, they want to stay yellow. Nothing is locked. All lines are on their own layers--imported with default options. Thanks very much, Barry
  12. OK, figured, it out. Although my walls looked the same, the framing of my pony wall was a different dimension from the wall above. I would not frame through because it's not the same wall
  13. Hi all, I've tried all the combinations of Platform Intersections under Wall Specification, Structure : selected the foundation walls and/or main walls and tried toggling combinations of Balloon Through Ceiling Above and or Hang Floor Platform Above on Wall, or Generate Between Platforms. I can't get any to frame from top of stem wall through to the top plate on the first floor. Does anyone know the correct approach to making this work? Thanks for considering, Barry Latest Version. PS, is it best to use the voodo on the lower wall or main floor wall in this case? I tried it with both and either, but still nothing. cheers!
  14. Thanks guys, just one of those things that takes time I'd rather be spending somewhere else. Cheers! Barry
  15. Hi, When cabinet sizes are different, the DBX toggle to align bottom height is cumbersome. Ideally, I would like to group select all upper cabinets, open a DBX and be able to type in a Top Height..but I don't see that's an option. What's the fastest way to align multiple cabinet top heights? Thank you, Barry
  16. Dude! That's awesome. At first i didn't see how to copy, but needed to change tabs from Library to Plan once in the Select Material window. Thank you...Barry
  17. So...Identify material name using the Adjust material, click on material painter (spray can), click plan material, find name in plan material list (unfortunately plan material dbx doesn't have a search box or we could past the name instead of searching down a list of 500). copy and adjust this material then spray? That's the fastest method that I know. Anyone other ideas? Thank you, Kevin, Barry
  18. Hi, Using the Adjust Material tool which opens the Define Material dbx...From there what's the fastest way to copy the same material and change its texture--I want to adjust the same material differently in the same room. the way I've been doing it takes too long. Thank you, Barry
  19. Yes, that's the work around that I use too, because I always forget what controls the beam size....
  20. Hello, I tried playing with default ceiling beam frames, but that's not it... I'm drawing a blank... Any hints would be appreciated.. Thank you, Barry
