I noticed this... (and gave you a countering upvote in the last case just above)... was thinking you must've p-o'd someone? It is truly silly. I feel that downvote should be limited to a post that is truly egregious....and I've yet to see any here on this forum.

Thanks Larry... I didn't even know there was a Chief - YouTubeChannel

Manually cut out the floor for the stair below
DzinEye replied to stevenyhof's topic in General Q & A
This is where Saved Plan Views can be your friend. A Saved Plan View called 'Working Plan' can have things like those invisible walls showing and then you can have a Saved Plan View called 'Floor Plan' or 'Plan_Layout' etc... that has the layers all preset so things like invisible walls do not show. That way you don't have to remember all the different layers you want to have on or off. -

There's been quite a few posts come up on this happening. @robdyck I know has commented on this behavior and may have a solution...or at least offer a consoling gripe about it too. As @glennw said though... may need to post the plan. -
I'm only very modestly experienced with bi-level houses in Chief, but from my experience, I've found that you always want to start with the lowest level and work upward. In our minds we usually want to work from what we consider to be the main floor and then up and down from there. You can get away with getting in a floor below but beyond that I found it will screw things up.

I've often wished that door swings had their own layer. I've never seen it come up as a suggestion though... have you Chop? I've not been around all that long so could've missed it. Seems like it would offer a lot of benefits.

Ugh... did something, floors are now concrete

Thank you... that clears it up. -
@RenerabbittThat IS the way to do those is it not? I think this is the only thing I've seen Chief show manually adjusting wall heights for though.

Well that sure confuses things? If it's always been slab then what do you NOT want to be slab, or concrete ? -
Okay... found it... it was Kyle Marsh who said it.. "I started spelling it Freeze on my drawings because I figured the builders didn't know how to pronounce it (I was right) and so were leaving it off. Since I changed the spelling I haven't had a single one try to skip it. Not that it proves anything and is a tangent, but is worth noting."

Hmm... well I guess I should offer my apologies then... now I'm forced to do some searching... dog-gone-it

Robert, that's too funny that YOU responded to this. I just saw that typo a few minutes before you responded, and immediately thought of you when I did because it seems like just a week ago or so the subject of frieze's was being discusses and apparently you were joking, but it seemed sincere that you said you intentionally spelled it 'freeze' so the framers would pronounce it correctly. I thought it was you who said that anyway... sorry if my brain is mis-firing. I was almost going to respond about the mis-spell too, and then thought of your comment and thought 'Huh... maybe Steve does this too'. Good morning!

Easiest way to go back is use UNDO after you make such an error. I assume you've tried that to no avail? Loads of different ways you could've done it... is the floor material just changed to concrete or is the floor changed from a raised floor to a slab floor? Provide your plan -
Specify the Text Style you want to use for each within the Layer settings (ALDO)

Changing Existing Defaults After Creating Rooms
DzinEye replied to BeachHouse1's topic in General Q & A
You say "After drawing the entire floor plan, I decided to change it."... but what's "it"... the floor plan?... the Floor Default?.. sounds a little confusing. If you want to change the Floor Default, just go to the Defaults per the screen shot below -
Manually cut out the floor for the stair below
DzinEye replied to stevenyhof's topic in General Q & A
You could do it with the auto-stairwell if you go to the basement floor level click on the stairs and use that tool... also you can manually place railings and/or walls and set the enclosed room (where your stairs are) or any other enclosed space to be 'Open Below' room type. -
You can find them in 3DWarehouse and import to Chief. Build a Chief 'Doorway' to create a wall opening where you want to put it.

Ya, now thinking back, I believe I did the Spacebar remap to the normal Escape function because quite sometime ago @Alaskan_Son explained similarly as he did about the Escape function usually being superior to using the Spacebar's normal 'Select Object' behavior. I kind of recall doing exactly what you just did and thinking the same thing.. 'All it did was drop everything and go back to Select Objects.' I didn't really fully appreciate the difference until I started using it more frequently after putting it on the Spacebar. The Spacebar is just so much more convenient to hit than the Escape key, it made sense to change it's function.
-
Well... I've been saying I mapped Escape to my spacebar...but that's slightly wrong as I don't think Chief will allow a remap of the actual Escape key in full. (At least I couldn't find a way). Instead I mapped the command ( Cancel Selection/Previous Command ) to my Spacebar.. which I think performs the same usual task as Escape in most circumstances. It doesn't always work as Escape would work though, which kind of irks me... but for the most part I usually do exactly what you're saying, by using the Spacebar to back out of what I'm doing and still keeping my selection. However... yes I do the less efficient behavior too by hitting it twice or thrice to get back to Select Objects sometimes instead of right clicking because my brain has locked in that that habit gets me the pop-up menu. You're spot on with the point that these bad habits are hard to break.
-
Ya, I should probably do that. I'd considered it a while back.
-
I am, but I probably don't use it as much as I could because of the pop-up menu you get with it... and I know you can turn that off, but I like that feature.
-
I'm sure Eric will get you straightened out, but looks to me like you need to join your two different pitched roof planes... I can see your upper pitch continuing down below the lower pitch. Use the Join Roofs tool... or probably watch forthcoming video from Eric

Just a few... using the Shift key is a normal part of typing so not too hard to master

@PMMully As Steve said here, so if you don't want it changed everywhere, you might make a copy of the glass in your User Library and name it Shower Glass or something like that.
