Siding not going to foundation on a couple of walls?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Glenn.....................Thanks for that reminder. The "little guy" upstairs between my ears just slapped me saying "I KNEW THAT!!". Can I blame it on being an old fart? Have a great day. -
Siding not going to foundation on a couple of walls?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
To All........................I ended up going back to an earlier version of the project where the walls showed correctly and copied the two "problem" walls forward to my final version and they show as they should. I still am not sure what the problem is/was (something with the walls themselves), but due to my time restraints I had to move on. If at some point in the near future the problem shows up on this plan or another I'll post the plan. Problems like this can be so frustrating and time consuming at times. Thanks to all for your advice and taking your time to help me out. Have a great day. -
Siding not going to foundation on a couple of walls?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Robert........................Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I had to see a client and just got back. To answer your question-----------yes, they are both checked. -
I was in the process of making some renderings for a client on a design remodel project when I noticed a couple of walls with the siding not going to the foundation. Earlier in the project they were fine. It's only on two exterior walls of many. I've compared the problem walls with ones that are correct and I can't find the problem or the "cure". The problem walls show the rim joist and sills. Just not the siding going to the foundation. On the other side of the house the problem wall is divided up with three different rooms and the end room's exterior wall going away from the corner is acting as it should (WALL2 attachment). This, I think, is telling me it's not somehow a "room problem". I'm sure this subject has been brought up before, but I can't find the thread with a search (as of yet). I'm not adding the plan at this time because it's very large, so I'm hoping it's something simple I'm overlooking. As always, all help is much appreciated.

Recessed lighting in ceiling with balcony and wall above?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Eric.................Thank you. That "fixed" the problem. Did you remember this "fix" from memory or did you find it in a search? If from a search, what wording for the search did you use? I had no luck in my search. If this is an "old bug" then there is no need for reporting? Thanks again and have a great day. -
I'm attempting to install recessed lighting on the first floor ceiling of a balcony above. I've tried labeling the rooms and walls above differently in hopes to fix my "problem", but so far I haven't found a fix. I'm not sure at this point if it's something I'm doing wrong or if it is a CA bug. I simplified the plan and CA reacts the same. When I install a recessed light in the ceiling everything is as it should be, but if I move the light to where there is a wall above, covering more than half the recessed light below, CA installs the light in the cathedral ceiling above on the second floor. I don't ever remember having a problem like this before, but I might have been just lucky over the years. I'm supplying the simplified plan along with .jpgs showing what I'm referring too. Is this a bug or me? Of course, as always, any and all help will be much appreciated. ROBBINS SAMPLE.zip

I have a pergola that I would like to mount wall sconces on the post. Is there a work around or procedure to do this since wall sconces only attach to walls?

Recessed lighting sloping with roof angle.
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Eric........................Thanks. I just found that thread with a search. I was using "recess lighting in soffit" for my search and wasn't coming up with anything. After rewording my search question the thread you pointed out came up. Thanks again and have a great day. -
I'm trying to install recessed lighting in my level soffit overhangs, but the recessed lights slope with the angle of the roof. I've tried to locate somewhere to override the angle but can't find anything. Is there somewhere or a work around to make the light level? Thanks in advance for any help.

Physically Based camera background color
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Mick and Mark ..................... Sorry for not replying before this. I've been tied up with some other projects not related to CA projects. Thanks for the "heads up". I've had a slow start using PBR. It can be very frustrating and time consuming for me. I'll play around with your suggestions and let you know how they turn out. Have a great day. -
Is there a place to adjust the background color when using the Physically Based camera view? All I seem to get is a dull grey background. I've tried doing searches on the subject, but I've come up with nothing.

Eric................Thanks for the work around. True, it might not be the "most correct" thing to do, but then, what IS the correct thing to do? Thanks to all for your time and knowledge. Have a great day!

Glenn.....................What you describe is what I have now. Shown in the attachments are the render and plan view of area I'm describing. Is there a way that Level 1 windows do not show up at all on the plan view? Looking at the plan view with both window levels showing is a bit confusing. If there is no way not to show only Level 0 windows, what is the best way to show this (with dimensions) so it isn't confusing? jasonN.................Right now my plan is to large, even as a zip. file to send. If I don't get an remedy to this I'll try making a "scaled down version" and put it in a thread later.

When having different size windows on different levels stacked above one another, is there a way to show only Level 0 windows in plan view? I thought there was a way, but can't locate info on how to do it. I have a larger fixed unit in a gable and double hung units below it in a cathedral ceiling room and it gets "too busy" with all unit levels showing in plan view. Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge.

Your soffit height is determined by your sub fascia size whether you have it checked or not. I usually do a back clipped cross section of my roof overhang area to figure out what size I need to set my sub fascia too so my soffit is positioned where I want it.

I'm trying to get the "Flush Eave" look as shown in the "dormer 1" attachment by using the flush eave option in the Roof Specification-Option dbx. When I do what I think is the right method I keep getting what is shown in the "dormer 2" attachment. Early on in this project I had a couple of times it did work for me showing correctly using the options, but I can't get CA to work that way now and I don't know why. Yes, I know, I can get the look I'm after by using p-solids for the flush eave siding area and p-solid for the level soffit, which is what I've done. My question is, am I doing something wrong in trying to have CA build what I'm after through the option dbx. or is it a CA problem? I made a small sample plan using the dormer specifications I want to use and on one side of the dormer I show what I want and the other side I'm showing what CA is giving me. If someone wants to look at this and try and figure out if it's me or CA it would be much appreciated. Good luck. Dormer sample.plan

Just out of curiosity, what causes these "Temporary Points" to show up and why? I understand the reason when working on a roof, but like the ones in the attachment of the first thread I don't understand. This happens all the time for me and I, of course, just delete them, but why do they show up in the first place?

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but there are some in 3D Warehouse.

Joe...….…………….Ah! To be honest, I never saw/noticed that box before-------it took me a while to find what you were talking about. Thank you for the heads up. Have a great day.
-
Joe...…………..Not quite clear what you mean, but I assume it's basically what I'm showing in my second thread.

I finally got my idea to work by adding an 1 1/2" to each end of the two types of wall. This accomplishes my main objective, but as you can see in the attachment there still shows a minor detail that is no "biggie", but I'm wondering why they are there and if I can get rid of them.

I'm trying to place a 2X4 pocket door in a 2X6 wall so there can be and outlet place in the "pocket area" of the door. The way I'm trying is to start with a 2X6 wall, remove an area where the pocket door framing is to be and replace it with a 2X4 wall and a 2X2"net wall furred along side it. I then place the pocket door in the 2X4 wall. My problem is the door doesn't show coming through the 2X2 wall. I have it marked as a furred wall. I have also changed it to split framing and nothing changed. Am I trying to accomplish something CA doesn't "allow" or am I missing something.

Set default fill colors for framing members in plan display
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Chris...……………..Thanks for verifying. That's the conclusion I came up with. When I have a lot going on with floor framing in plan view it's helpful (at least to me) to show the framing members with different fill colors. I'm sure it won't do any good, but I'll put it in the "Suggestion Box". Thanks for your time. Have a great day. -
Like the title says. I would like to change the default fill colors for some framing members in plan display. Such as making the sill plates a light green. Looked through the Defaults and did a search, but came up with nothing. Oh, one other thing, which isn't really to do with the title. Every time I go to write a thread the default color is grey. Is there a default setting for that? I know it use to be black. I don't know why or how it go changed. As always, any and all help much appreciated.
