  1. Chopsaw..............I will try that. Sounds good to me. Mick.................I did use the Windows Snipping Tool. Maybe adding them "into" the thread instead of just leaving them as attachments is what caused them to be so small. Chopsaw & Mick..............Thank you both for your time and knowledge. Have a great day.
  2. Mick...............Thanks for taking the time. Your knowledge and advice is much appreciated. I now understand that I can change joist width for certain areas by group selecting, but what I'm gathering is the on center width can not be changed by group selecting. It looks like I would have to delete the joist that are at the wrong on centers and manually install them. Is that correct? Above all none of this can be setup in the auto framing for different areas
  3. Mick...............First picture is what I started with Second and third picture is what I did with p-solids. I was just wondering if there was better faster solution.
  4. Mick...........1. I assume you are referring to the wall DBX. in framing defaults. Where is "No# of Rimjoists box? 2. If I set the main area floor joist for 3 1/2"x16" 24"o.c.I can have an individual area have 11 1/4" floor joist but they are 3 1/2" wide and 24"o.co. I want the 2X12's to be 1 1/2" wide and 16"o.c. while my larger joist are 3 1/2" wide and 24"o.c..Can I do this by auto framing with changing one or the other joist manually?
  5. 1. Where do I find the setting for the number of rim joist? I did an auto framing and I have two rim joist. I don't ever remember having these before. There must be a setting somewhere. 2. Most of the floor joist framing in this model is 3 1/2" x 16" 24"o.c. truss joist. I have a section where I'm using 2x12 joist 16"o.c. Is there a way to have this floor framed automatically to all the right sizes correctly or do I have to change my 2x12's manually to the correct width? CA was making all the joist 3 1/2" wide. I've tried al kinds of searches, but I wasn't able to come up with an answer. I must be questioning the search wrong because I'm sure this has be asked before. Thank you
  6. I have a model that has different size floor joist in different areas. If I want the bottom of the exterior walls to show in exterior views to all line up with the lowest wall how best should this be accomplished? Using p-solids I think is most logical or is there a better way? I would like not to pull the whole wall down, but just show in cross sections the sheeting and siding lowered.
  7. Mick.................No, I'm using X10 with the latest update, but thanks for reminding me to update my signature before X11 comes out.
  8. Scott, Shane & Eric..................Thank you. I was having a "brain frat moment". I was going to the 3rd level, but not up to the attic level to find the correct wall. Once again, I so appreciate your knowledge and time taken to help me out. Have a great day
  9. They say pictures are worth a 1000 words................... I tried deleting walls and rebuilding them in the areas of the "wild" framing. Any ideas? Thanks for looking. Chandler 08142018B.zip
  10. Michael................Thanks for looking checking out this problem. You're getting the same results that I did. Since posting the original thread I've submitted it to tech support. They believe it's possibility a bug also. They said they are going to give it a further review.
  11. I have a wall that is intersected by roofs on both sides. The Upper wall labeled "A" is shown aligned with wall "B", but I want to show the "A's" Lower wall. When I show the lower wall in plan view it is now misalignment with wall "B" and will not snap into the correct position. Also a look at the exterior is showing the lower wall out of alignment. Does anyone get the same result? Am I missing something? I've noticed when I open this simple plan for the first time I might have to move the roofs to wall "A" a couple of times to get wall "A" to recognize them for a Upper/Lower wall situation. I can't remember if I've ever had this problem with the Upper and Lower walls not aligning. I'm not sure if it's because of the roofs intersecting with the wall at different levels on opposite sides or what-------------BUG? I thought I would throw IT out in a thread before sending it to tech support. WALL.zip
  12. I'm not sure why to use the "OPEN BELOW" room above, but it works. Can you explain why? I had multiple wall types so the siding would be showing correctly on all areas of the exposed exterior wall surfaces above the roofs on both sides of that wall. I had to change your "Attic Wall" to have siding on both sides above the roofs. Everything looks good now. As we see here with my problem (which is partly self-imposed I'm sure), the program can be used most of the time to fix the problem, but it takes a VERY skilled person understanding the different aspects to figure it out. Thank you so much for your time, knowledge and advice. Have a great day.
  13. That's definitely thinking outside of the box! Thank you.
  14. 1. The wall area in question is circled at the left on the first floor of plan. I'm after 1/2" sheetrock on the interior walls and Horz. V-groove siding on all the exterior areas. I think most of the problem arises with the roofs intersecting the wall at different levels on opposite sides of the wall and the sloped area on the second floor level. I tried dividing the wall into three areas (the wing-siding on both sides, wall with window-upper wall siding on both sides, lower wall cut by roof, siding on one side sheetrock on other, and third area- upper wall, siding on both sides, lower wall cut by roof, sheetrock on both sides. There is also a wall to "finish out the area" on the 2nd floor level. I've tried all different combinations and I'm getting nowhere. I'm either missing making a mountain out of a mole hill or I'm working the program too hard. 2. Is this a BUG? Wall "A" has a lower and upper wall. With the upper wall aligned with the "wing wall" it is attached to I click on wall "A" to show the lower wall. When I do that the lower wall jumps out of alignment with the "wing wall" by 3/4". No matter how careful I try to place the lower wall "A" it will not align with the wing wall. If I go back to showing the upper "A" wall it is aligned. The lower "A" should be set at 6'10" instead of the red circled 6'9 1/4". This same "jumping" occurs when I try to show the lower wall in plan view where the window is located in the first "problem wall" I talked about. I've been working on this remodel off and on for sometime and it seems to have had all sorts of issues. I have submitted these issues to tech support, but I thought I would also check here with you all. As always your advice and time are much appreciated. CHANDLER 08082018.zip
  15. Mick......................Thanks for that "tid bit" of info! IF I did know that at one time I forgot about it. "They" say that's part of getting old-------------or should I say older. Have a great day.
  16. Joe..............This is one of the few times I totally disagree with what you say. It's CA's job to "try" and give us a program that is able to give us what we can do in the "real" world. Then let US figure out how to do it correctly. A lot of CA's problem with certain parts of their program is that they try to do all the thinking for us with all the "auto" features. I suppose to the inexperienced person the auto features is a plus, but for me, I need "options". I will have to admit though the auto framing is much help in that it gives you a "starting point" to work from. As for using a Tudor "half arch". Where do I find this? There is a Tudor arch, where you can make the radius "0", then set the height difference from one side to the other. How do you use the Tudor arch feature and only clip the corner of a door? Thanks again for your respected time and advice. It's always appreciated.
  17. Robert..............Thanks for the "work around". You would think CA could set the door "shape" just like they do with the windows. Have a great day.
  18. I could not find anything in "Search" on this subject. I would like to clip top corner of a door to same angle of the roof. Is this possible? I don't see a way in the door's "Arch" dbx. section. I know you can do this with windows. Thanks in advance for your time and advice.
  19. Lew is most correct. The eave fascia should either be the same or a foot or "more" above the main roof. I would also make the pitch on the "turret" at least twice the pitch of the main roof. Try that and see if changing the pitch is much more pleasing to the eye. Because the eave will be much above the top of the windows you could add more architectural detail in that area to help make the "turret" stand out. Of course this is my opinion only. You can take it with a grain of salt.
  20. Eric.......................Thanks for letting me know this is an old bug. I've never had this occur for me before that I can remember. I will report it again. They say the squeaky wheel gets greased . Have a great day.
  21. Charles...........................Yes, I got those same results earlier. This "work around" is fair and might be my best option, but like Eric, I think this is a bug and I'll report it. Thanks for your input. Also thanks for your input on the "deck plank" problem. I was also able to get similar results by changing the plank and gaps size. I also think this is a bug and I'll have to report it. Have a great day
  22. 1. I have an area of the deck edge where the deck planks do not go to the outside of the framing (DECK 1 attachment). If I move the distance of the deck closer or farther away from the wall the deck is attached to the gap will change, but it will not be correct. I've never seen this occur before. Once again, any suggestions? Just to let it be known, this is a plan moved up from X9. 2. I also have part of a deck that is under a 2nd. floor overhang (DECK 2 attachment). The underside of the overhang is showing a deck ceiling even though in the deck dbx. I have ceiling and roof unchecked. I've tried everything I can think of to try and get rid of this ceiling. I know it is a deck ceiling because when I change the material for the deck ceiling the ceiling I'm referring to changes. Any suggestions will be much appreciated for either problem. Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge. Remodel 8A.zip
  23. Eric..............I made sure both sides were at the same elevation. You can see my results in the attachment. Did you try using my profile that is in the plan? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I can't ever remember having this sort of problem with the shadow boards or frieze. It's getting late. I'll have to look at this with "fresh coffee" in the morning.
  24. I edited the attachment so it was larger and easier to see. Perry and Mick.................Sorry I didn't get right back to you more quickly. I got a call and had to step out. I do appreciate your advice. Perry .............. I don't have "auto framing" on, but I did build the framing. I just have that layer turned off. Mick .........I understand that that the shadow board builds from the fascia line back, but I have my overhang set for 12". If it is set for 12" (roof material out at the 12" mark) then why is my shadow board back at the wall. When I change the horizontal offset for the shadow board it does not move. I did make the frieze the same molding as the shadow board molding but it would not show. I take it you did not get those results----------correct?
  25. I tried to add a soffit detail as a shadow board, but I'm getting strange results (attachment). I have my overhang set to 12 ", but the shadow board rest up against the exterior wall and will not move no matter what my horizontal setting is set to. My roofing material is placed correctly ,but the framing isn't correct either. In the process of trying to "trouble shoot" the problem I attempted to use the soffit profile as a frieze molding. My frieze is shown in the roofing dbx. ,but it doesn't show in camera view or plan view with all the correct layers turned on. Am I having an "old timers brain fart" or is there something really going on here? This project was brought up from an earlier version if that has anything to do with it. I'm just getting it started (my own place) and I'm trying many unusual things in getting the "right look" house.zip
