I'm trying to figure a way to raise a wall cabinet bottom up inside 1" for under cabinet lighting. I'm having framed inset door cabinets with the bottom of the door going all the way down to the bottom of the cabinet. (no bottom rail on cabinet) I'm using 2" stiles and rails on both the cabinet and door. I would like to show the top side of the bottom slab of the cabinet flush with the top edge of the 2" bottom door rail. Is this possible in CA or a better work around then what I'm doing? So far (work around) the only way I can achieve this is by not having a bottom in the cabinet and manually installing a p-solid bottom once I have the cabinets on the wall. I know this description is quite "wordy", but I hope you understand what I'm explaining.

Levis................Thank you so much for the macros. Eric..................As always, you clarify and give "good points" and study material. Too all.............Info very much appreciated. Have a great day and 4th of July!

I'm not "up" on macros. Is there a macro for door labels that would show the label for, let's say, a 30" wide door as 2/6 or a 32" wide as 2/8 etc., etc.? If I want, is there a "place" I can learn how to write macros? Well, at least a basic understanding of them.

Robert................I just went through a "senior moment". I was changing the text style/size on the door and window layers instead of the door LABEL and window LABEL layers. Some days this getting "old" is rough on the mind. Thanks for "bearing" with me. Have a great day.
-
I changed the text style/size for my door & window labels in my Layer options but when I install a new window or door in a wall the label doesn't change to the new text style/size. This procedure works for room labels as per "Knowledge Base". What am I missing/doing wrong? As always, thank you for your time and knowledge.

Eric........................I think I got it! Thank you for you time and knowledge. Have a great day.

Yes Eric, you are correct. I finally did find the thread in a follow-up search. I did a couple of earlier searches, but both of those times I guess I didn't look far enough. You mentioned in your work around that there are times your walls re-merge back together. That's the problem I'm having now. Is there a work around for this "wall merging? I've tried reversing layers, but that's developing other problems it seems.

I'm building a pony wall consisting of 12" blocks on the lower and one row of 6" block as the upper. I'm using a "wall niche" for the beam pocket which is in the first two courses at the top of the 12" block lower wall and is 6" deep. In the render view everything looks as it should be, but in the plan view it (sort of) shows the niche in both the 6" and 12" blocks even if I turn off the wall niche layer. Is there a way to show the pocket only in the 12" wall as shown by the red dashed line? I think I've tried all avenues, but to no avail. Is there a better way to make a beam pocket and have it shown correctly? Is this considered a bug? As always, I appreciate all advice.

Garage floor shows under door on exterior.
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Levis & Chopsaw...................Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Yes, those were the threads I was looking for. The one problem I find with this solution, unless I'm doing something wrong, is that you get the "almost" correct look for garage doors, but for a walk-in door the exterior casing extends to the bottom of the concrete floor finish. On the garage door I get a thin layer of the jamb across the boot of the garage door on top of the cement. I guess we just "live with it" and hope that someday CA will fix this. Have a great day. -
A while back I read a thread explaining how to make CA show the garage floor extend out under the garage door to the exterior side of the block wall. I can't locate that thread. Can someone "guide " me to it's location. Many thanks.

Are all the roof pitches the same? If they aren't you will have to adjust the fascia and sub fascia sizes on one of the pitches so they all line up correctly.

Siding not going to foundation on a couple of walls?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Glenn.....................Thanks for that reminder. The "little guy" upstairs between my ears just slapped me saying "I KNEW THAT!!". Can I blame it on being an old fart? Have a great day. -
Siding not going to foundation on a couple of walls?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
To All........................I ended up going back to an earlier version of the project where the walls showed correctly and copied the two "problem" walls forward to my final version and they show as they should. I still am not sure what the problem is/was (something with the walls themselves), but due to my time restraints I had to move on. If at some point in the near future the problem shows up on this plan or another I'll post the plan. Problems like this can be so frustrating and time consuming at times. Thanks to all for your advice and taking your time to help me out. Have a great day. -
Siding not going to foundation on a couple of walls?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Robert........................Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I had to see a client and just got back. To answer your question-----------yes, they are both checked. -
I was in the process of making some renderings for a client on a design remodel project when I noticed a couple of walls with the siding not going to the foundation. Earlier in the project they were fine. It's only on two exterior walls of many. I've compared the problem walls with ones that are correct and I can't find the problem or the "cure". The problem walls show the rim joist and sills. Just not the siding going to the foundation. On the other side of the house the problem wall is divided up with three different rooms and the end room's exterior wall going away from the corner is acting as it should (WALL2 attachment). This, I think, is telling me it's not somehow a "room problem". I'm sure this subject has been brought up before, but I can't find the thread with a search (as of yet). I'm not adding the plan at this time because it's very large, so I'm hoping it's something simple I'm overlooking. As always, all help is much appreciated.

Recessed lighting in ceiling with balcony and wall above?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Eric.................Thank you. That "fixed" the problem. Did you remember this "fix" from memory or did you find it in a search? If from a search, what wording for the search did you use? I had no luck in my search. If this is an "old bug" then there is no need for reporting? Thanks again and have a great day. -
I'm attempting to install recessed lighting on the first floor ceiling of a balcony above. I've tried labeling the rooms and walls above differently in hopes to fix my "problem", but so far I haven't found a fix. I'm not sure at this point if it's something I'm doing wrong or if it is a CA bug. I simplified the plan and CA reacts the same. When I install a recessed light in the ceiling everything is as it should be, but if I move the light to where there is a wall above, covering more than half the recessed light below, CA installs the light in the cathedral ceiling above on the second floor. I don't ever remember having a problem like this before, but I might have been just lucky over the years. I'm supplying the simplified plan along with .jpgs showing what I'm referring too. Is this a bug or me? Of course, as always, any and all help will be much appreciated. ROBBINS SAMPLE.zip

I have a pergola that I would like to mount wall sconces on the post. Is there a work around or procedure to do this since wall sconces only attach to walls?

Recessed lighting sloping with roof angle.
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Eric........................Thanks. I just found that thread with a search. I was using "recess lighting in soffit" for my search and wasn't coming up with anything. After rewording my search question the thread you pointed out came up. Thanks again and have a great day. -
I'm trying to install recessed lighting in my level soffit overhangs, but the recessed lights slope with the angle of the roof. I've tried to locate somewhere to override the angle but can't find anything. Is there somewhere or a work around to make the light level? Thanks in advance for any help.

Physically Based camera background color
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Mick and Mark ..................... Sorry for not replying before this. I've been tied up with some other projects not related to CA projects. Thanks for the "heads up". I've had a slow start using PBR. It can be very frustrating and time consuming for me. I'll play around with your suggestions and let you know how they turn out. Have a great day. -
Is there a place to adjust the background color when using the Physically Based camera view? All I seem to get is a dull grey background. I've tried doing searches on the subject, but I've come up with nothing.
-
Eric................Thanks for the work around. True, it might not be the "most correct" thing to do, but then, what IS the correct thing to do? Thanks to all for your time and knowledge. Have a great day!

Glenn.....................What you describe is what I have now. Shown in the attachments are the render and plan view of area I'm describing. Is there a way that Level 1 windows do not show up at all on the plan view? Looking at the plan view with both window levels showing is a bit confusing. If there is no way not to show only Level 0 windows, what is the best way to show this (with dimensions) so it isn't confusing? jasonN.................Right now my plan is to large, even as a zip. file to send. If I don't get an remedy to this I'll try making a "scaled down version" and put it in a thread later.
