  1. I think he was talking about a different scale problem.
  2. I had to ask since I cannot get lighting to look like this inside of Chief. Great work for sure.
  3. You can setup a Max export so that it simplifies the textures to a point (its called "Baking") you can get a good export. The complexity of this process is determined largely on the model specifics. Chief is very basic when it comes to its ability to map textures. But, yes, you cannot simply export/import into Chief any .3ds file you want to include all the textures as they are in Max.
  4. If I understand your question, then you simply need to divide the "room" (which is really a deck/balcony) at the point you want the change to occur using a room divider or invisible wall. Without seeing an illustration I am somewhat guessing as to the issue, but that is what I a read into your post. Once the room is divided you can set "no ceiling" in the portion of the deck you don't want a ceiling.
  5. I dont see your attached file - however, 3ds should work. If you attach the file I can try on my system and see what happens.
  6. Just messing around, I found if I selected the trusses and clicked "req kingpost" the truss regenerated in the correct location. Not an answer, but a work-around.
  7. That is really odd - I think you should report this to Chief, since seems to be an obvious (major) bug. I opened it and got the same thing - in fact, the truss profile is still selectable in the correct location.
  8. If we invalidated American achievements in favor of the immigrants' native countries - we'd be left with the hamburger as our country's crowning accomplishment.
  9. That is a good system for that price. The GTX will make Chief sing for dinner....
  10. Having a separate video card - and a good video card at that - is nearly mandatory if you plan to do serious work with CA.
  11. You can get a nice barrel ceiling to work fine in Chief - but getting all the paneling modeled in the barrel is going to be one heck of a challenge.
  12. There are Chief user groups that are regionally based - a section in the forums.
  13. This is going to be a challenge in CA - heck, a challenge in any CAD app but Chief probably a bit harder. I was curious if I could get soffits to follow a rounded ceiling plane but that didn't work. Another idea would be to create a custom modeling profile and use modeling lines. This may be a question for Glenn/Scott.
  14. In your railing specification Dbx under the "Newels/Balusters" tab you can specify the offset of the news/posts.
  15. I recently purchased a book by Architect Nick Sonder that gives fairly good advice on creating 3D models inside Sketchup. Its worth checking out for those who are looking for methods. Chief is lacking a few very key tools SU has for this type of work....
  16. Does the curved roof method require having a cap? Also, as I was trying to get this to work myself (for practice) there is a bit of an issue getting the stepped sides since that ends up "breaking" the roof/wall connection ability.
  17. I have to side with Scott here - and I think Limitless was looking for some advice, but hopefully didn't take it personal. Whenever you ask opinions you have to be ready for frank answers. Some of the harshest criticism i've ever received has made me better at what I do since it prevented me from being satisfied with poor work.
  18. I was wondering if anyone knows the person I should contact about getting on the beta team....? I've looked back in old messages and emailed "beta@cheifarchitect.com" but I get no response at all. Thanks!
  19. For a utility building i would have no problem doing it the way the client wants - that is a common method for that type of structure.
  20. Any chance someone would do a vid on this? Are you guys handling this in the setting Dbx or doing some manual modeling?
  21. Actually, you can make a custom wall type for the thickness required and then use a material region to "break" the surface to provide a subway relief (the scoring) pattern. There are many advantages to this method especially surrounding windows.
  22. ....yeah, it is. Is this new construction or are you trying to remodel?
