  1. A crash while ray tracing may indicate an overheating problem or maybe running out of memory. If your system is running hot then blowing the dust out might help.
  2. iMacs should be pretty good. About 1/3 of our development was done on iMacs that are 2-3 years old. Performance issues may not all be caused by Chief. Mac software is notorious for running the system out of memory. Chief should not be leaking memory but it is something to keep an eye on. When the memory becomes tight you will see a significant performance drop. The graphics cards on iMacs are often using mobile graphics. Probably to avoid the overheating issues that some of the earlier iMacs had. This will reduce your 3D performance. We are interested in all issues that you have. Please don't hesitate to contact us about issues. You can be sure that for every issue you contact us with there are at least 10 people who had it that didn't contact us. Given the smaller number of people using Macs this means that it is likely that you may be the only person reporting the issues you see. We really like people who are willing to report problems.
  3. I haven't seen things lock up, but there is definitely a slower response on the new forum. Perhaps because it is busier than normal. There are a lot more new posts this AM than I'm used to seeing.
  4. 1) Pinch to zoom works on Mac an Windows to zoom the content area as you would want. 2) We implemented 2 finger pan for the touch screen and it works well. 3) I hate using my fingers on my phone. That is why I switched to a Samsung Note 3 which has a stylus. But that is Android. As near as I can tell the stylus on the Windows Surface works very well but I have not used it much. As compared to the fat stylus that is required for an iPad the ones that come with the Windows Surface are nice and pointy so they don't get in the way. 4) There are smallness issues with the interface. Some are getting corrected with the next update, but in general having the ability to set the size of icons to anything you would like would be best. Hopefully, that is something we step up to for X7. That said, drawing with Chief on a Surface is still easier using a mouse, at least to me. Others may have a different experience. I suspect that if you use the surface all the time it may become a lot more natural. Our long term goal is to push the use of gestures forward for more things. But for now we have some of the basics are there. I still would not want to draw a plan using my fingers, but in theory it can be done.
  5. I'm not sure what is happening. I tried on my new Dell which has both Intel 4600 and Nvidia graphics and both graphics processors appear to work correctly. It is possible that the Intel 2500 graphics driver is the problem. I went to the Intel site and it appears that there is a newer version listed there for the 2500 (10.18.10.3345). This is what Chief lists for my 4600.
  6. It is documented in the help. Search for ResCheck and you should find it.
  7. No it was what I had on my facebook page. I'm not the one getting hammered on though. For the most part this is a marketing driven change so I can't take credit for the good or bad on the design of this forum. Please keep giving feedback as that will help to make it better.
  8. I'm not completely sure on how all this works. But I found that if I hit "View New Content", then for the items that are bold I hit the round bullet to the left it takes me to the first new post. Or at least that is what I think is happening.
  9. X6 is a major change. I expect to see bits of problems for awhile. Some will likely be hard for us to fix, while others may not so keep letting us know what is annoying to you.
  10. I think we have a fix in the pipeline. I would reccommend not running as admiistrator though as it breaks other things, like drag and drop from explorer onto Chief.
  11. I don't understand the need for a number of posts count.
  12. Looks a bit better for me as well, although I would prefer a smaller minimum width.
  13. I like this idea. This would also be a good place to discuss how certain hardware works. For example the new Mac Pros. The Mac hardware I developed on consists of an older Mac Pro and a MacBook Air. Both systems handle Chief well although the MacBook Air is a bit weak to be used as a full time Chief machine. We recently acquired a new low end Mac Pro. Our first use of it indicates that the performance doesn't really justify the cost. However, it seems to run Chief well. We have a higher end on on order that should be here soon. Perhaps it will provide better benchmarks. From a compatibility standpoint these seem to get an A. From a return on investment standpoint I would give them and F.
