  1. Do you think that CA could provide this feature ?
  2. Thanks Gene, That work faster then the "adjust materials definition". Another handy feature would be having the color pallet show up on screen and stay up while you highlighted different colors on the pallet. At the same time your highlighting a color on the pallet your wall or object would change to that color. This way you could quickly go through different color options for your model. Thanks, Mike
  3. I find it interesting that I can easily add a material such as stone to one wall without it changing all of the walls in the plan. But I can not change the stucco color of just one wall without needing to creating a new wall type with a different name. I would have thought that CA would have made it very easy and quick to change the colors of one wall or all walls. I think it would be a good idea for CA to incorporate a way that we could change the material colors on the model in real time. Thanks, Mike
  4. One more thing, When I highlighted the one wall I wanted the color change to take place I just realized that all of the stucco walls changed to the new color. Is there a way to only change one walls color while leaving the remaining walls the original color?
  5. I'm viewing this in a perspective view which is set to standard view. I check the "blend with texture" and that worked perfectly. Thank You, Mike
  6. I am working on a project where I want 2 different colors of stucco on the exterior walls. I tried using the adjust material definitions tool but nothing changes on the elevations. In the adjust material definition dbx under the general tab I clicked on the materials under color and picked a color that I wanted the stucco color to change too. The walls color did not change. How do I change the color of one or two walls in the plan ? Thanks, Mike
  7. What is the best way to draw an arched entry porch with round columns supporting the arches and roof. I have attached a picture of a rendering showing what I am trying to model. Is there a training video from CA showing how do accomplish this type of arched entry porch? Thanks, Mike House with arched entry.bmp
  8. I am working on plan check corrections that will require me to add another sheet to the plans. I want to add a sheet numbered 8.1. All the current sheets are numbered 1 -12. I want this new sheet to fall just behind sheet 8 since the new sheet will be related to sheet 8. Is there a way to do this? Thanks, Mike
  9. I am working on a simple room addition project. I am having a problem with adding the new roof planes over the new addition. I have already input the existing floor plans along with roof framing. The existing roof is framed with roof trusses. The new additions roof will be conventional framing. I had a hard time getting the roof planes on the new addition. Half of the roof plane would not join together using the join roof planes tool. When I pulled the new roof over the existing roof planes the new would not stop when they intersected the existing roof planes. With a lot of time I was able to get it to look right in perspective view even though I keep getting error messages when working on the roof planes. I also have a few line sowing up on the roof plan that I can not identify. Could someone take a look at my plan and let me know where I am going wrong. Thanks, Mike 2016-23 Design 1.plan
  10. I have input the floor plans for a one story residence I measured yesterday. The house has a truss roof. It's a simple L-shaped floor plan with the garage sticking out in front of the house. I am running into 3 problems. 1. Where the garage roof California frames over the top of the house, the rafters are not showing correctly. Chief is only showing small pieces of the rafters and are not continuous from the ridge down to a perpendicular rafters below. How do I get the California framing to show correctly? 2. The blocking between the rafters are not sitting on top of the double top plates. They are places off of the wall. How do I get the blocking to be placed on top of the double top plates? 3. The blocking between the rafters is also showing as 2 blocks between each truss. How do I get it to show only one block between each truss? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike 2016-23.plan
  11. Thanks Glenn and Chopsaw. I would have thought that the temporary dimensions defaults for door and windows would also been placed under temporary dimension defaults. I wonder why they did not.
  12. How do I set the temporary dimensions to locate the edge of the doors and windows rather than center to center ? Thanks, Mike
  13. Thanks Chopsaw. I have not clicked on that pull down before. That is what I was looking for.
  14. This there a way to topics that I am interested in my own folder so I can review them again in the future ? Many times I have read the questions and answers asked in this forum that have been very informative. I would love to be able to save them or tag them somehow for future reference. Does any one know if that is possible. Thanks, Mike
  15. Now that is cool. Thank you Joe. Mike
  16. Thanks Eric & Joe. Joe, are you saying that I should type in the macro command for the clg. ht. in rich text box first, set the text height there then copy and paste into room label default box ? Another question. Where do I set the room label text size & style Thanks, Mike
  17. Below the room labels Chief has a string of text showing the room size. Is there a way to have Chief show the rooms ceiling height instead of the rooms dimensions ? Thanks, Mike
  18. I am trying to rotate my floor plan 90 degrees to the left so it will fit better on the final layout sheets. I have turned on the all on layer set then highlighted the entire floor plan with a marquee. When I do this no edit handles appear to click onto to rotate the plan. I can select individual items in the plan and the edit handles appear. But when I select the entire floor plan no edit handles. I tried using the rotate plan view at the bottom of the tolls menu, but that rotates everything in the plan file even the door and window schedules. How do I rotate the floor plans only? Thanks, Mike
  19. AB, Attached is your corrected roof plan. I am some what new to Chief. I believe I did it correctly. Mike KRAWCYZK-2.plan
  20. Thanks Chopsaw. I followed your instructions and it works with the exception of leaving a vertical line between the 2 different stucco patterns as Perry said it would. Is there way to change the new continuous vertical line to a dashed line ? That what I us to show the boundary between the new and existing. Or should I just white it out with a solid white line, then draw a dashed line over the top of that white out line ? Thanks again, Mike (semi-newbie)
  21. The reason I say I am new is because I have only used Chief on 2 small addition projects. And with those project I used Chief for the floor plan and elevations. The rest of the project I finished in AutoCAD since I am more conformable using AutoCAD when drawing the site plan, framing plans and details. I did get a reminder on how convenient Chief is when doing door and window schedules. I was just putting together a door and window schedule on a house I'm designing. My version of AutoCAD does not do this automatically. It took me an hour and half do do this. I made a mistake in the numbering of the windows. Of course this had to happen at the beginning of the schedule so I had to change all of the numbering in the schedule and on the floor plans. In Chief that would not have happened. If some how it did and I had to remove window 2 in the schedule, everything would have automatically changed in the schedule and on the plans in a second. That would have sure been handy this morning. Thanks for the help, Mike
  22. Thanks for the help. I tried both way. I changed the pattern ant then the texture. Both work. The problem I am now having is how do I save the patterns with a unique name such as stucco existing or stucco new so I can use it over again on other projects ? I drew four exterior walls with two walls being existing walls with no fill and two new walls with solid fill. I went into the perspective view and used the adjust material definition tool and clicked on the new walls. I adjusted the material pattern per Davids example. It put the stucco pattern on both new and existing walls in elevation view.. I want the stucco pattern to only show up on the new wall in elevation view. What am I missing ? Thanks, Mike
  23. I'm new to Chief. I am using X-8 What is the best way to add a stucco hatch pattern to the exterior elevations ? When I view the exterior elevations in black and white there is no hatch pattern on the walls. I do a lot of remodels and addition projects. I like to show the new walls in elevation view with a hatch pattern of dots. I leave the existing walls without a hatch pattern. This helps distinguish new walls fro existing walls. Thanks, Mike
  24. Thanks all. Michael's suggestion #1 is what I was looking for. I was looking to rotate the arc freely around one end of the arc. Thank You.
