  1. I'm not seeing "Pattern Lines" or "Edge Lines". I am in the layout page, I left clicked on the camera view then selected "Edit layout Lines". I get the active layer display option popping up to the right. There is no layers called "Pattern Lines" or "Edge Lines". I have also tried the reverse order of selection and I get the same thing. Is the edit layout tool your talking about the third tool from the right titled "Edit Layout Lines". Thanks, Mike
  2. I watched a CA video a few months ago that shown how to lighten up the roof fill pattern for plotting. It left the roof planes as is and only changed the fill pattern. I forgot how they did this and I can not find the video. Can someone let me know how to do this ? Thanks, Mike
  3. I'm using X-9. I used the CAD detail from view on one of my elevations. All of the lines were converted to one line type and one line weight. The line weight on the elevation went from .18 to .35. In the CAD detail they were all changed to .02. Text, dimensions and lines with arrows all retained their original line weights. All other lines such as wall, windows, roof, posts and patio rafters were changed to a .02 line weight and given the layer name "CAD, Default Lines". Shouldn't all lines retain their original layer names and line weights ? If not, this is a fairly useless command. I do not want to spend a lot of times working on a detail or elevations then using the CAD detail from view command to have all of the layer names changed to "CAD, Default Lines" and all the line weight changed to .02. I have a call in to tech. support on this issue. They are suppose to call be back. I have not heard back from them yet. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to correct this ? Thanks, Mike
  4. I am attaching my plan and layout sheet with the plot plan. I am getting the plan ready for the HOA meeting later this week. I still have a little more work on the plot plan, but this is how I have been drawing them for the last 33 years. I do not provide the entire floor plan. I draw a dashed line that represents the exterior edge of the outside walls. I trying to figure out what is the easiest way to do this. Thanks, Mike Naimi Layout.layout 2017-02-X9_Design_1.plan
  5. So you show all of the rooms on the plot plan ? Bathrooms, family rooms, kitchens, etc. I have never send it done that way. Usually it's the outline of each floor along with the roof plan that is shown on the plot plan. Sending the entire floor plan can get cluttered. Thanks, Mike
  6. Do you send the entire floor plan to the plot plan or do send an outline of both floors and the roof plan to the plot plan ?
  7. Thanks for the suggestions. I am setting up and annotation plot plan set. Creating an exterior room polyline is a good idea. This works great for a one story house. How do I do this with a two story house ? I know I can have the 2nd story roof planes move down to the first floor, but how do I get the 2nd floor exterior room polyline to also move down to the first floor ? Thanks, Mike
  8. I am working on a room addition plan and ready to send the plot plan to the layout sheet. In AutoCAD, for the plot plan, I use a single dashed line that outline the exterior walls and solid lines that represents the roof of the house. Is there away to do this in CA ? It looks to be that I have to send the entire floor plan including the interior walls. Is this correct ? One way I could do this is to trace over the exterior walls and give it a unique layer name, turn off all irrelevant layer then send this to layout. I'm hoping that CA has a better way of doing this. Thanks, Mike
  9. I am working on a project that has a second floor balcony. The client wants a custom wright iron guardrail. I am a subscriber to Chieftutor.com and see that in the symbols library there is a custom wrought iron rail. The question is how do I get the railings in Chieftutor to replace the typical wood rails produced by CA ? Thanks, Mike
  10. Eric, I found the through wall at end. That fixed it. Thanks Again, Mike
  11. Thanks Eric, What do you mean, Through Wall at End ? How do I do that ? Thanks, Mike
  12. I am doing a small addition/remodel. We are enlarging the family room. One of the new walls of the addition will connect an existing 45 degree wall corner. When I connect the new wall to the existing 45 degree wall corner the existing walls disconnect from each other and looks like they trying to merge with the new wall. How do I keep the existing wall corner to remain attached to each other ? I have attached the plan so you can see what I am talking about. One more question. How do I wrap a beam with 1/2" gyp. bd. ? Thanks, Mike 2017-02-X9_Design_1.plan
  13. Thanks Mike. I see where you checked off the "lower wall type if split by butting roof" and called off the lower wall type. I see where you broke the roof planes around the interior fireplace. What I did was increase the ceiling height of the chimney to be above the roof height before I drew the roof planes. I thought that the roof planes would go around those higher walls. Thanks again, Mike
  14. I have been inputting a set of as-built plans into CA. There are two first floor and one second floor fireplaces. On a part of the two first floor fireplaces, one of the chimney walls are showing gyp. bd. instead of stucco. How do I show the wall with stucco above the roof and gyp. bd. below the roof ? The second floor fireplace is in the middle of the floor and the walls of the chimney do not extend up through the roof. I have clicked inside of the 4 wall that make up the chimney and gave the room a height that will put the top of the chimney above the roof. The chimney wall do not show above the roof. How do I get the walls of the chimney to extend above the roof ? I have attached my plan so you can see what I am talking about. I clouded the areas I am having trouble with. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike 2017-02.plan
  15. Tried the half wall. You do not get the glass panel over the door.
  16. I have not upgraded to X9 yet. I will do that this afternoon. Thanks for pointing out the new tool. I'm glade you figured out that a new shelf ceiling tool could be used for shower wall heights. Thanks, Mike
  17. I am inputting an existing master bathroom into CA. The ceiling height of the bathroom is 10'. One of the shower wall sits on top of a 22" high bath tub platform. The other wall of the shower sits on top of a 6"x6" curb. The glass shower walls are 7' high above the curb and 5'-8" high above the 22" high platform. The shower wall are extending to the bathroom ceiling. How do I keep the glass shower walls from extending to the ceiling ? The existing shower has an 18" gap between the top of the glass shower wall and the ceiling. I have attached the plan. The master bathroom is on the second floor. Thanks, Mike 2017-02.plan
  18. Thanks Eric & Michael, Michael, Inserting two pass-through openings and dragging them just passed the ends of each wall worked out great and was very easy to do. As you said, Not super intuitive. Eric, Thanks for your help on correcting the disappearing wall corners. I deleted the multiple window panes and it now works fine. How did you know that there was multiple window panes ? I wonder if this happened when I copied them to the second floor. I copied and pasted them in place, then went to the second floor and pasted them in place. If that was the problem I wonder why not all of the windows I copied to the second floor had the same problem. Thanks again, Mike
  19. Hi Eric, I have attached my plan. The fireplace I am talking about is on the second floor. Another problem has come up. Some of the corner walls on the first floor keep pulling apart. I have selected the walls and pulled them a couple of inches apart then let them snap back together. That fixed them for awhile. When I went up to the second floor then back down to the first floor the walls had pulled apart again. Why is this happening and how do I keep it from pulling apart again ? Thanks, Mike 2017-02.plan
  20. Thanks. I was looking under door defaults. Both solutions for this door. Thanks, Mike
  21. I am working on a project that has a 2 sided fireplace insert. How do I place it in the corner of a wall. I have seen videos of placing a one sided fireplace in a wall. In that video the placed a pass through opening in the wall from the windows drop down menu. They then sized the opening to the size of the fireplace insert. How do you make the corner openings in the walls for the 2 sided corner fireplace ? Thanks, Mike
  22. I am entering a house that I measure last week. The toilet room in the master bathroom has a 45 degree wall with a 2'-4"x6'-8" door. The interior dimension of the 45 degree wall is 2'-10". CA will not let me insert the 2'-4" door into this wall. It reduces the size of the door down to 2'-0" wide. The only way I can place the 2'-4" wide door in this wall is to reduce the casing down to 1.5" wide. The problem is that when I reduce the casing it does it on both side of the door. Is there a way to have the casings on one side of the door be different size than the other side like we can do with exterior doors ? I measured 3.5" distance from the edge of the casing next to the door opening to the corner of the 45 degree wall. Why will CA not let me have a 3" casing since there is 3.5" of wall to attach the casing ? One last unrelated question. I just viewed a video that Alaskan Son did regarding making custom columns. Is there a way to tag these videos and/or topics for future reference ? Thanks, Mike
  23. I have a sliding barn style door in one of my projects. Its not a pocket door but it does slide on a rail attached to the side of the wall. I used the doorway command to create the opening. I manually drew the door in the open position since I could not find a similar door in CA. How do I get this door to show up in the door schedule ? Is there a way to add an extra line in the door schedule so I can manually type it in ? Thanks, Mike
  24. I know what you mean when it comes to converting AutoCAD details to CA details. I spent a day and a half converting 22 details I drew in AutoCAD to CA details. CA does not give to many tools to help make this process easier and quicker. I have 4 more details I have to covert tonight and several hundred to go. Does anyone know why CA will not incorporate some of the CAD tools AutoCAD has in its program ? I just found out today from tech. support that you can stretch the building but you can not stretch a CAD detail. So if I had a partial wall section and needed to stretch it up to make it a 10'-0" wall from an 8'-0" high wall I can not to that according to tech. support. AutoCAD has had the stretch command since the 80s. Its a very handy tool and I use it all the time in AutoCAD. You would think this would be much easier to program stretching a wall section detail v. stretching the entire building. Thanks, Mike
