  1. Thanks Chopsaw. I followed your instructions and it works with the exception of leaving a vertical line between the 2 different stucco patterns as Perry said it would. Is there way to change the new continuous vertical line to a dashed line ? That what I us to show the boundary between the new and existing. Or should I just white it out with a solid white line, then draw a dashed line over the top of that white out line ? Thanks again, Mike (semi-newbie)
  2. The reason I say I am new is because I have only used Chief on 2 small addition projects. And with those project I used Chief for the floor plan and elevations. The rest of the project I finished in AutoCAD since I am more conformable using AutoCAD when drawing the site plan, framing plans and details. I did get a reminder on how convenient Chief is when doing door and window schedules. I was just putting together a door and window schedule on a house I'm designing. My version of AutoCAD does not do this automatically. It took me an hour and half do do this. I made a mistake in the numbering of the windows. Of course this had to happen at the beginning of the schedule so I had to change all of the numbering in the schedule and on the floor plans. In Chief that would not have happened. If some how it did and I had to remove window 2 in the schedule, everything would have automatically changed in the schedule and on the plans in a second. That would have sure been handy this morning. Thanks for the help, Mike
  3. Thanks for the help. I tried both way. I changed the pattern ant then the texture. Both work. The problem I am now having is how do I save the patterns with a unique name such as stucco existing or stucco new so I can use it over again on other projects ? I drew four exterior walls with two walls being existing walls with no fill and two new walls with solid fill. I went into the perspective view and used the adjust material definition tool and clicked on the new walls. I adjusted the material pattern per Davids example. It put the stucco pattern on both new and existing walls in elevation view.. I want the stucco pattern to only show up on the new wall in elevation view. What am I missing ? Thanks, Mike
  4. I'm new to Chief. I am using X-8 What is the best way to add a stucco hatch pattern to the exterior elevations ? When I view the exterior elevations in black and white there is no hatch pattern on the walls. I do a lot of remodels and addition projects. I like to show the new walls in elevation view with a hatch pattern of dots. I leave the existing walls without a hatch pattern. This helps distinguish new walls fro existing walls. Thanks, Mike
  5. Thanks all. Michael's suggestion #1 is what I was looking for. I was looking to rotate the arc freely around one end of the arc. Thank You.
  6. I have tried every option in the transform/Replicate DBX and every time the arc rotates at its center point, not the end point. I added a temporary point at the end of the arc and that hasn't worked.
  7. Thanks Chopsaw, That works for making multiple copies of the arc and rotating them at the same time. What I am trying to do is rotate the arc freely about one end of the arc. I do not want to make copies of the arc. Thanks, Mike
  8. I am trying to rotate an arc while keeping one end of the arc stationary. I also tried this with a simple line. The line will let you rotate it around it's center point but not locking one end and rotating around that end. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Mike
  9. I'm new to Chief. I'm using X-8. I'm on a project with a curved roof and exposed rafters. I tried to using the soffit tool and checking the box to place under ceiling and sloped soffit. The room has no ceiling. I can not get the soffit that I want to convert into exposed rafters to arch with the roof. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks, Mike
  10. I'm new to Chief, I'm using X-8 What is the quickest way to change the color of all the kitchen cabinets. I just drew a kitchen with a light oak finish. I want to save that view and produce another view with a darker oak stain. Is there a way to do this all at one time, or do I have to do this one cabinet at a time? Thanks, Mike
  11. Thanks Doug. I can not find a category called Kitchen Styles in the bonus catalog. I did change the material to stainless steel polished which is under the core catalog. I have added several more light sources in front of the refrigerator to see if that helped. It definitely made the surface of the refrigerator much lighter where the lights are hitting it. The rest of the surface is still black. Thanks, Mike
  12. I am new to Chief, I am using X-8. I have added a Jenn-Air refrigerator to a kitchen remodel I am working on. The finish materials under fixture specifications is stainless steel brushed. After 310 passes in Ray Trace the refrigerator is showing up black. I have added 3 light sources in front of the refrigerator and it still comes out black. How do I get the finish to show up looking like a stainless steel finish? Thanks, Mike
  13. Thanks Mike for showing that to me. I had no idea that we this kind of control over the wall framing. It looks like I have a lot to learn about this program. Thanks again, Mike
  14. Thanks Larry. That worked. Question. When would I want that layer displayed in the drawings? Thanks again, Mike
  15. I'm new to Chief, I'm using X-8 I have just started drawing the wall on a new plan. I'm getting extra lines at the wall intersections. I've looked at other drawings that I have worked on and these line do not show up in those drawings. I have attached the plan. Does anyone know why these extra wall line are showing up at the wall intersections and how do I get rid of them ? Thanks, Mike Lee.plan
  16. Are you sure? I just did that and the layers that move to the top are layers that I do not have in my drawing. The layers that moved to the top are Images, wall railing, electrical, stairs & ramps, etc. I just drew a 20' x 20' building and added roof framing. No windows, doors, stairs, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, electrical. Just 4 walls and a gable roof. Why are these layers moving to the top of the list? Thanks, Mike
  17. Another nice feature would be to have all of the layers in the layer set that you currently have on show together and at the top of the layer display. They might me indented a few spaces to further identify them as the layers of the current active layer set. Thanks, Mike
  18. I'm new to Chief, I'm using X-8. I've set-up some layer sets and annotation sets for my plans. After setting up several layer sets for different parts of the plans such as floor plans, elevation, framing plans and foundation plan I noticed there is no reset button. For example when I am working on the floor framing and locating beams and the direction of the floor joists I will turn on the plumbing fixture layer. I do this so I can make sure I am not placing a beam right under the toilet or shower drain. I will also turn off layers temporarily if that layer is getting in the way at the moment. I noticed that if I forget to turn on or off those layers when I change to another layer set, those on or off layers will now be saved as apart of that layer set. I would be very helpful if there was a reset button that would turn on or off the layers, line colors and line types that was originally set-up in that layer set. Is there a way to have Chief do this? Thanks, Mike
  19. In the late 80's he move down to Simi Valley, Ca where I live after going through a divorce. He was doing architectural rendering when I meet him. He told me that he use to be the base guitarist for Mitch Rider. I thought he was bullshitting me until a year latter when Mitch Rider came to L.A. and we were invited back stage. After listening to the two of them talking about the old day for about an hour it was clear that he use to be a member of the band. John moved back to Alaska in 1991. We talk a couple of times a year. He is a Revit user. Every time we speak he spends at least a half hour trying to convince me to switch to Revit.
  20. He also plays in a band that tour around Alaska. He use to be the base guitarist for and old rock group called Mitch Rider and The Detroit Wheels back in the late 60's early 70's.
  21. Thanks Michael. Buy the way, you wouldn't happen to know a John Rankin in Anchorage? He also been doing architectural plans there for many years.
  22. Thanks. Here is the plan. There is several other mock-ups on this plan as well. The one I'm talking about is the plan at the lower left side of the screen. I have also attached the Ray trace image. If you look at the perspective view the beam, fascia board and knee braces all appear bright white. In the ray trace image the beam looks like a light gray. Thanks, Mike Truss Roof.zip
  23. I hate to ask, but how to I attach the file to this post? I do not see anything that allows me to attach a file to this post. Thanks, Mike
  24. The fascia board, knee brace, beam and garage door and trim are all have the same color selected. Each one has a slightly different shade of white. The knee brace which I selected from the core library is the brightest white. The garage door is a little less bright white then the fascia board a little less bright. Then you have the beam which is a light gray. I can see that the slight color differences would take place depending on the direction of the light source. But the gray beam is right on top of the knee braces. Both of them have vertical surfaces. I would have assumed that their colors would be close to each other. I will try and play with the emissive setting s and see if that helps. Thanks Mike
  25. I'm new to Chief, I'm using X-8 I'm getting two different colors showing up in the ray trace than in the perspective view. I have a project that has a long over hang. This over hang is being supported by a beam that itself is being supported by knee braces that are attached to the wall. The knee braces and the beam are painted porcelain white. When I ray trace it the beam has a grayish color while the knee braces are bright white. I created the beams using polyline solids I then changed the material to Fir. In the perspective view I used the material eyedropper to select the color of the knee braces and apply it to the beam. Looks right in the perspective view but not in the ray trace view. I've added lights in front of and under the eaves to see if that would correct the color difference. Still shows a grayish beam and bright white knee braces. Is there a way to correct this color difference? Thanks, Mike
