P, I've just started adjusting my undo delay settings. I started @12,000ms and have reduced to 900ms. I'll continue to reduce until the pain point is reached, then bump up 100ms. So far this has resolved all the lag points (specifically when interacting with the library). jon

m version NVidia chips are hard mounted on the motherboard. Not something that can be "Dropped in". The system(s) Abe is talking about are more corporate imaging workstations and not content creation systems. While the NVS series cards can run certain graphics software, they're designed for processing scanned documents and OCR calculations. Or, if paired with a GPU card, medical imaging. Get the right tool for the right job. jon

Graphics Card recommendations: Gaming or Workstation?
jcaffee replied to Hometec's topic in General Q & A
Of your list, the BenQ is the only one I'd recommend. The Dell "P" series will not reproduce color accurately--ever, and I have no experience with LG. My preferences in the under $1K 27" WQHD monitors are: Samsung S27D850T 27-Inch Dell U2713HM 27-Inch ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch IMO the Samsung and ASUS are a coin toss for the best (I have personal issues with Dell). jon -

How Do I Change The Orientation Of The Whole House?

What Tommy said! Seriously. jon -
Thanks Joe! I'll give it a try later today. jon

An 11% white point light down 1.5" from the source. 4" Soft Shadows and Cast Shadows turned off. This is very coolio if it works! Thanks Joe.

A top surface puck light to illuminate any objet placed within would be great. As this sits, it's a 4" wall concealing structural steel posts and backed by 20" stone wall. The "niches" are pass-throughs with zero casing and the frame 15" deep with a -1/2" inset to bring it flush with the drywall. The 15" frame depth gives me about a 2" gap with the stone wall, and I've tried to backlight that without success. I saw what you've been doing with niches, and wondered if a niche could be transformed in a light fixture. So, just wonderin'. jon
-
It would save me a ton of work trying to illuminate all the niches in this project. jon
-
How about a plain square one as a light fixture? Can it be done? jon

I won't speak for anybody else, but yes, depending on where I am in my process, I will have multiple standard camera views (OpenGL) open with the possibility of a ray trace running in the background performing a light check. Not to mention Spotify, Netflix, and a full Amazon shopping cart to keep my attention during those activity lulls. Seriously, if you ray trace out of Chief or any third-party render engine, then this "level of performance" is really bare minimum. If all you're doing is modeling in 2D and assembling ConDocs, then... why are you using 3D capable tools? Throw in multiple monitors, wireless HDMI to a display array, Adobe AfterEffects, Photoshop, etc., etc. I am not a one trick pony. Then, of course, the cool factor. jon

Graphics Card recommendations: Gaming or Workstation?
jcaffee replied to Hometec's topic in General Q & A
Make sure your DDR4 is matched to the MSI approved list in both clock speed and vendor. X99 chipsets are very finicky that way. I would dump the HDD and go 512GB M.2 as the OS drive with 1TB++ SSD storage drives. Good looking specs! jon -

Nope, make sure you have only the NVidia card selected here as well... jon
-
Yes, but did you vet them using a full cognitive study within a broad user cross-section defined by CA skill level and cross-indexed by overall knowledge worker computing experience. Make Jakob Nielsen proud! jk. They work fine. jon

Mark, did you select the NVidia card within the Chief settings of the NVidia CP? jon

Sloped Soffit Not Recognizing Ceiling Plane, Not Holding Settings
jcaffee replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
It's not you. The soffit isn't aware of the ceiling plane. Fri 13th TS call? Ohhhh, spooky. Try building roof framing, then place soffit? jon -
D, it was an exaggeration of the condition. If you look under the single rail--in the stairwell... Anyway. I resolved this by opening a custom stair railing>select wall types>make a copy of the wall type>strip all but main layer>make main layer Opening, No Material>saved it to my lib as a "Railing, Stair". No more mystery ghost walls floating under the stairs. Thanks for looking. jon
-
You need to save as SU 2014 or earlier. jon
-
On the 3rd floor>4th floor. There is a custom rail where the "Railing wall" is visible. jon
