  1. Remember Mike, I am the Father of the crappy ray trace, 3 minutes and I'm done. Did 7 today in under 35 minutes and they look great for my purposes. For every exterior ray trace I manipulate the sun angle to maximize the look, 13.2 seconds per ray trace, hit the HJ quick key, badda bing, I'm ray tracing. Whilst that is working, a quick HB to take another shot, repeat previous instructions, stir, preheat oven to 350 and let them cook. Export the jpegs and send to client along with PDF of plans. The only thing that hangs me up is the printing to PDF, must deactivate license on Mac so I can go to PC to print. Depending on the mood of my PC, that can be a 5 minute process or a 25 minute debacle. Did I say I hate my PC?
  2. I just realized DSorenson is probably a one post wonder, when will I learn?
  3. Larry, if DSorenson does not post his plan, that is good for me, instead of spending an hour on something I don't get paid for, I will work on something that pays me. And you are correct, the terrains are still a bit inconsistent for my taste, but I can usually get them to work for me.
  4. I hope you PC guys are experiencing this too, but I just want to say that working on the MAC in X6 is getting quicker and quicker every day. Not to say there aren't a few hiccups here and there, but for the most part this program is working. I hope you PC guys are seeing the same thing. And for you folks out there who are having PERSISTENT issues, it is probably not the program, it is probably you or your hardware. CA ain't perfect yet, but I had a real good day with very few issues coming up. I just want you guys to understand that CA should probably be working for you...... for the most part CA works well ...... but not perfect.
  5. Post the plan and I will do a vid..... these things can be a bit tricky and are rarely consistent.
  6. in black and white view I did the cut to cad and ran strings of dimensions took 5 seconds. It pick up all cad lines as expected. in coloured view I did wall elevation, blue dimensions are the auto cabinet dimensions, took 0.0025 seconds. The red dimensions are my string dimensions, took 3.5 seconds. Hopefully that answers your question. As a side note, I would never cut to cad, to pick up the tops or bottom of doors, I would simply put in cad lines, run a string and I would have the dimensions I wanted, in my mind that is much much better and more controllable than cutting to cad. My kitchens change all the time, I want the elevations to be live. But you probably already knew that.
  7. I don't know what you are trying to do Mark. If you are trying to figure out if you can do something once you have cut to cad, describe to me what you would do if you could, and i will do a quick (quick is relative) video for you if it will help you with your decision.
  8. I use ply on exterior face down over double and then an h-2.5 at interior side at stud to rim. Pretty much the same idea.

    Logging in

I have CT on 4 devices. I never log out. If I am gone for several hours and come back to it, I must log back in. Fortunately I have apple and they have " keychain". Which remembers the password, so it is hitting "return" key for me. Yep, did not have this issue before.
  10. Appreciate the honesty.
  11. Hey Develospec, I like your plumbing diagram. Really like the way you used the colors. Trying to show a 1/4" per fall seems like a lot of work to go thru..... but I get it..... you want it. But I have to say for the last 40 years I have been in the business, somehow the plumbers have figured out this stuff without me telling them how to do it. It's so funny now as to the level of detail that is expected/required/needed for a set of house plans. My favorite analogy is the framer that needs a detail to show him the required penetration of a 16d toenail and the required edge distance. I recently did a job, had to go back to the plan checker 3 times to work out that the 4' long 42" hi railing wall at some stairs (you know, 2x4 @ 16 oc with drywall each side) , that was secured at each end to a wall, met the 20#/l.f. horizontal load requirements. Is that nutty? Can you imagine how much it cost the client to pay me, the engineer, the plan checker, the permit runner, the print shop to prove to this nitwit that a 42" hi wall that is 48" long that is nailed at each end to a wall, will not fall over if someone leans against it. Common sense people, let's use some common sense. At least I did not have to detail the 16d nailing connections....... heck, why am I complaining?
  12. I can't believe the terrain would have an effect. To test this you could delete the terrain. I think your house would be a nightmare to edit and copy area to a different plan, so many things going on with the spaces within your house.
  13. Actually Alan, I did do a controlled scientifice evaluation of the value of anno sets and you are almost correct, I found they save 4.3 hours/40 hours of work (minus the time I spend on this site learning new tricks).
  14. I think you said you were copying floor 3 of existing to floor 3 of new. Have not checked out, but maybe you have to somehow predefined floor 1 and 2 elevations for the new floor 3 to come in a correct location. No matter, I would assume it is a simple matter of adjust the elevations in the floor dvx.
  15. I think that is the step that you are missing JC.
  16. Back at office, accessed new site by typing in CHIEFTALK.COM, and on the home computer, I typed in CHIEFTALK.COM and that one went to old forum. (done in safari) Just another example of the inconsistencies in my computer world......... and I ain't even go to the WOOD FLOOR OVER CONCRETE GARAGE issues...... I spent so much time on that, and I still can't quite figure it out. If I am using Google chrome, I go to old web site on office mac. On PC both IE and Google Chrome take me to old web site using chief talk.com On PC both IE and Google Chrome take me to new web site using chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com ( as Glenn stated) So it is only on office mac using safari that chief talk.com goes to new site. So on the mac at office I do not know how to get to old site.
  17. I am on home computer, using safari, new window in safari, type in CHIEFTALK, takes me straight to the old forum, from there I can get to new forum. So if I am on home computer, I open a new browser window, how do I go straight to new forum? When I get to the office in AM I will see how that works on Safari, I am assuming if I type in CHIEFTALK in new browser window using Safari on office mac, it will take me to new forum and not the old forum. Two computers doing two differdent things, what's new? I got on my iphone today and if I go to contacts to look up a number, I no longer get the keyboard to type in name...... I have to scroll down to find contact....... I think I am cursed.....
  18. Yep, not working for me either.
  19. Appreciate that, but how do we get there? Thanks.
  20. This is nutty, come on CA, at least let us get a chance to go back to old forum to review past posts. We don't need to post, we just want to get there to find older info, thank you, thank you very much.
  21. Sorry about that Tommy, I thought the question had been answered. Here is the answer. In layout I use the %box_scale% in the layout label, something Perry introduced me to. I love it, the scale remains constant. Prior to that I used the %scale% , this I used the the PLAN FILE, not the LAYOUT. If you use the %scale% in your PLAN FILE, you will now see the scale change as you zoom in and out. I believe this is what you are looking for.
  22. Glenn, if you teach me, I will make a vid.
  23. Joe, I was thinking Tommy's option was still there. And im with you, I don't understand how he would use it, but what ever floats his boat.
  24. You can select them all and then raise all at one time. Don't know what layer they are on, but lock all layers except that one, group select and raise all at once. I assume you know all that. I'm still thinking on this.......
