  1. Alan, I just reviewed what I said..... this is very interesting..... if I apply your mirror material to the post, it is not reflective. However if I go into plan view and change your post from a 6x5 to a 6x18, it is now reflective. What I am saying is the reflectivity of the post is based on the proportions of the post..........BTW, when I say post, it is built as a PSOLID in PLAN VIEW, not as a true framing post.
  2. Alan, this is from post 6, I opened your plan and used your mirror material on the two psolids. It worked great on the "PICTURE BILLBOARD" but on the POST it was black. (see pic) I was not using a floor overview, I was using the FULL CAMERA. I remember there are some OBJECTS that the mirror material does not work on. Also, if you use a FLOOR OVERVIEW CAMERA vs the FULL CAMERA the reflection does not work.... in render view. Would you agree that if you applied your mirror material to the POST, there is no reflection?
  3. I will give it a try in the AM, and hopefully we can get together in MY AM to do a vid on this, let me know..... I need your email..... 6:00 am my time, 5:00 pm your time.
  4. Hey Yusuf, no matter what happens, I am assuming this needs to be turned into a symbol..... so if that is the case, we can always delete surfaces for the treads we need to delete. So you create 33 treads, and I only want 29 treads, I assume I could always delete surfaces of top four treads, turn into a symbol and I am good to go. However if you can come up with a solution without having to resort to the delete surfaces method, that would be better. I am playing with your method, I can do it...... I don't know why it works and i don't know how your Ethiopian Brain came up with this solution, but it is ingenious.
  5. Alan, did that go thru PS ala Jon Caffee, it looks good.
  6. Is this an example of a user being creative or is this a work around?
  7. Just thinking about this...... Yusuf set up 3 sets of stairs with 11 treads each = 33 treads. Maybe I want 24 treads, okay, 3 sets of stairs with 8 treads each.... doable. But what if I wanted 22 treads, now do I use 2 sets of stairs with 11 treads each? Suppose I want 17 treads..... now what is the combination?
  8. Just let me know, I may try to do a vid using the YUSUF SPIRAL STAIR method..... I may even use some audio with an Ethiopian Accent..... really good stuff Yusuf, really out of the box. The key will be figuring out how to control the number of treads and their heights.
  9. Many years ago I replaced the engine in my '72 240 z.......... yes, a datsun......... I think your Dad was helping because we had a few left over bolts.
  10. Okay, I'm on, nobody said I had to follow directions to get on. I wonder if they get tired of us nitwits out here.
  11. Unbelievable, Brian seems to think it is user error, yeah, my error..... maybe I will follow directions this time and see what happens......
  12. Yep, see pic, this is what I get...... heck, I almost showed my product key for everybody in the world to see... let's just say I received a message that said.... PRODUCT KEY NOT FOUND IN ONLINE DATABASE.
  13. I never realized this, CA tries to compensate for our ignorance, but the room molding does build to finish floor....... HOWEVER..... when you first create the molding, you have the option to give it a <-2"> elevation, and that is when the molding shape follows the CENTER OF THE WALL and not the WALL FINISH. Just some more useless information I found out.
  14. I am having problems also, HEADQUARTERS does not recognize my product key.
  15. I watched on my IPAD and saw end result, very nice, but I did not understand how he did it, I tried watching on my computer and still could not follow..... Hey Yusef you knucklehead, get some audio so we can understand what you are doing...... and if you have some funny accent whereas we cannot understand you, let me know and if you want to do a GOTOMEETING with me, together we can work it out. I am dying to see what you figured out..... I knew you were the smartest guy here except for GW.
  16. Doug, if I turn patterns off does it help? Or is it the fact that somehow CA has to understand pattern lines whether shown or now and that will take up memory. Pattern lines, which take up the most space? -horizontal lines in elevation @ 24" oc -concrete dots in plan view @ 24" oc -earth patterns @ 24" in section view -ledgestone in elevation view -ledgestone in plan view -angle crosshatching to show 12" square tiles in plan view angle crosshatching to show 12" square tile in elevation view I never considered that pattern lines would take up a lot of memory..... this sounds like something some of us should understand.
  17. This plan is not very big. About 5 MB with or without PATTERNS AND TEXTURES. Doug says we should expect it to be slow because or the many patterns. I do not consider a 5MB file as being large. If that is a large file and we should anticipate the slow 3d that this plan has, we are in trouble. This may be a good plan to study to find out what is truly causing the slowness. 5MB file, house near 0,0,0 join the real world.... I do not understand why it is so slow. And if it being slow is the case, we could probably look into sharing a bedroom.
  18. Well, I took a guess, do you want us to spend the next day and a half guessing or would you like to post the plan so you will have an answer in about 7.38 minutes. I swear, every time I try to help someone without a posted plan, it turns out to be a waste of time. I might need to change my M.O.
  19. Phil says he does these all the time, as do I, however I typically do not have a porch below, so I understand why it is not working for me...... IF I DEFAULT CEILING HT AT PORCH BELOW IT DOES NOT WORK. Phil did his on X7, I assume he has a good overview (he did not post a pic), I opened Phil's plan, did nothing but do floor overview and the attached pic is what I got, broken. So Phil, if you are using X7, and you do a full overview, what does it look like? Is it broken like mine or does it work. Oh, here is a thought, I am on a MAC and Phil is probably not. I think there is something a bit askew with the MAC's for this type of a model.
  20. Mick, yours works because you do not have a room/porch below the pop out window. This is a very interesting issue. On my X6 in works on X7 it does not. The reason it works on X6 is because the ceiling height is not defaulted, default ceiling height in porch and it does not work. Why this is not consistent with X7 I do not know.
  21. Floor connected to roof, it makes perfect sense to me..... But why did it look correct in x6 but in xt
  22. JC, these front doors (2-2668) are custom designed, they are not off the shelf, craftsman style with 3 vertical fixed glass window in each door of varying heights...... I will look into HD & Loews but I don't mind paying for the services that Grand Entrances offer. They do some really nice custom doors. But will look into saving a little money...... but you know you get what you pay for ....... Mr. Architect....... you get what you pay for.
  23. Thanks Chief, still uploading, but I did change to public, so when done you should be able to view.
