  1. Here a thread on the subject last year. >> https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/321-nvidia-driver-settings/ Things to know: GPU for renders / CPU for the Ray Traces.
  2. I dumped the extra layers in the walls ("STONE") and about half the time (30 seconds) for a full orthographic. Then I changed the very busy stone (actually on the exterior layer) to a stucco and it takes about 5 seconds. This solves that problem, but as mentioned earlier, there are a lot of other issues to be dealt with.
  3. Alan is correct. Here is an exterior wall properties DBX. Jenny, way too many layers here, and the order is wrong. Not crashing me yet, but have not tried changing anything yet.
  4. Jenny, This is an unusual way to view a render, I know, but adds to my suspicion that a lot was manually forced here. What I circled tells me that likely walls were "grabbed" and pulled down to cover, for example, an alignment issue where things didn't look right. I'm not aware of any other way this could happen. Platform levels are all over the map. I know it can be frustrating, I too struggle at times with these issues, but anyone here will tell you that when you force the program by dragging things to make it look right in a 3D render, bad things will plague you for the remaining time on the project. Painting walls, depending on how and where can also have these issues. Chief will do what it is supposed to do, in most all cases, provided we do what it expects. It will have the software equivalent of a nervous breakdown, when you override it's settings in these ways. It's an ambitious project, and much larger than anything I do typically, but the same rules apply. Platforms, and alignment are critical, basic steps, and once you force those in a 3D view, it can be very difficult to go back. I'd respectfully suggest starting over and working your way up from ground up. Don't even worry about windows, doors, or interior until you have the exterior built, correctly, including the roof. Then, deal with the rest. My bet is that would be far quicker than trying to undo the other issues. I'll stay out of this until some of the smarter folks weigh in, but my 2 cents.....
  5. Here's another small section snapshot. And looking at the wall alignments with reference layers on, and they seem pretty far out.
  6. Jenny, There are way smarter people on this forum then myself, and specifically I don't know why the orthographic is taking as long as it is yet. Takes me about the same, but not as fast a machine as yours, so your card is not the problem. That being said, and I mean this all with due respect, but there are a lot of problems with this plan. My guess is a lot was manually forced to get the 3D to "look" right, perhaps by dragging walls up, down, etc. Lot's of roof issues, misalignments of walls, elevation platforms that are oddly thick, stairs through roofs, mystery walls (likely auto generated). In just one small snapshot, attached, I circled some of the obvious things I see. Just one spot, of entire building. Not sure if this is supposed to be a new construction, or some type of as-built. Anyway, I'll dig a bit, but suspect the smart folks will come along and figure out the offending material, or perhaps other problems.
  7. Jenny, I agree with Raul, post the plan and someone here will figure this out in a few minutes, versus guessing at it.
  8. Johnny, Another thread, see post 119 in this thread >>>> https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/3058-the-jon-caffee-post-production-workshop-in-january/page-6 All three are good, but the specific question you asked is the first download link in post 119
  9. Scott, I think they call it "Time Machine" with the fruit 'putters..... For all Windows machines, it's called "System Restore" and takes all of about 5 minutes. If you ever find yourself in this situation, a download or something is causing problems, do this sooner rather than later. You will only lose any "programs" added during the time between.
  10. Scott, It's an ADWARE that can be a ***** to remove, but can be done. First though, how long ago did you download this??? If not long ago, just do a system restore to an earlier time prior is the easiest. All programs and their associated bloatware will go away, but no files lost. That's the easiest way. Here's the hard way. http://malwaretips.com/blogs/hot-deals-popup-virus/ A reminder to all, in most all cases these days, somewhere in the download process is an "Option" to install these other things. Not always, but not uncommon. Usually it's to change your browser, or something similar. NEVER take the automated "easy" download step if offered as those steps they will not show you can have these "options" enabled. If available, do the manual version.
  11. Those do look good. Funny, you can always tell it's not Phoebe when you see grass.
  12. I agree, I would never send my plan files to a client. Potentially easy for them to take that to someone else, and run....
  13. Perry, that's intriguing. What are you using for that (PDF), and can you send me a generic PDF to see how this works?
  14. Rich, MC would be proud of you. Awesome !!!! That being said, I see a problem with your plan. No handrail. People could fall up and hurt themselves. No way this would pass code, other than perhaps DCRA, but even they tend to prefer handrails, but still optional.
  15. Zowie, Don't hold back, tell us what you really think
  16. Guilty. This means that I may need to start actually reading the OP. Scott, you take all the fun out of this.
  17. Perry, just a guess, but OP might not understand that the different sizes are for different layout sizes. For example: Ledger (ANSI B ) Arch D (24x36) You adjust your text size for the paper size you print to. The rest (font, line weights and colors are just preferences).
  18. Thanks Dr. K. I've never tried that, but will try that in the future. You can add this to the syllabus for the Dr. K February Workshop??
  19. Rich, that was my experience too, but I eventually just gave up as it was just an experiment and nothing I needed. I have found some good stuff at 3dwarehouse, but sometimes things are goofed up. I usually just fix it there, then bring it in. For the most part, I've been able to fix the items I've needed where there was a problem. Examples: Grouped items I simply explode there and bring in individually, but usually it an orientation thing and I simply turn it the way I need it and then import.
  20. Perry, you have dimension spelled wrong. Sorry, just had to....
  21. See old forum with this same thread title there. Lot's of examples over there. Look at Kathleen's and George's stuff, among others. Long thread, so start most recent and work backwards.
  22. I'm assuming you're playing with the focal blur intentionally here? Not sure it works for these traces though. Also, what is the dot of light in the cabinet first image? Oh, and what is the wall material in both images? Looks like a really rough concrete or something, but can't tell.
  23. That's nice Rich. I tried to do some mechanical pipes once and found it was difficult to get all the pieces aligned. Where did you get the 90's and T's, and how did you align the pieces?
  24. Have you looked at 3dwarehouse? I have a few, all from there.
