Hey Folks, This is a plan I've had for a while and never successfully gotten roof correct. I'm about to do several additions, so hopeful I can get this baseline as-built correct. Roof is close, but not completely correct and unable to figure out why. The attached PDF shows the areas of concern. The large hole in siding, front of house, I suspect has to do with there not being a wall under that entire area? The other issues, no idea. Last, every attempt to get the little roof over bay window really whacks things up, so its missing here. Other than a very simple rectangle building I've rarely had luck with automatic roofs. This is manually drawn. Any ideas, suggestions much appreciated. Thanks Michael, Don't think that is the case here. My best guess is that the water edge is/was a guestimate. Google Earth shows the side lines and street frontage are pretty close. This property has changed hands only 3 times since 1949 and it appears nobody bothered to get an accurate survey done.

Thanks Richard, The original survey was in1949 and that seems to be the case with all the lots on this peninsula. I have spoken to the county land management person and she has nothing. Very back woods here in S. Maryland. The most recent survey was 1986, but they noted that they were providing this per original deed description. I'll try to get neighbors plats quietly as no sense in getting them stirred up thinking there is a property dispute. There isn't. That and get owner to get another survey done.

Thanks Chopsaw. I'm already trying to track down the neighbor surveys but expect that this entire area was initially surveyed at the same time (1949) and my bet is they contain exact same information. Will be interesting to see. Thanks again !!

Richard, Mick and Chopsaw. Thanks for your replies. I agree that there "might" be ten legs as they show two seemingly unaccounted for pins. The odd thing is that they appear on a straight leg of the two (north and south) longest legs? I had not noticed prior to original post, but there is a note on this PLAT referring to the fact that this was taken from a "deed description" and original survey dated Aug 10, 1949. This survey was done in 1986. I guess I'm curious that if there is a known error, they simply say, "oh well"?? Why would it not be resolved at that time? This is a sealed engineered survey (1986) by a professional company. I think the only way this "might" be resolved is via another survey. I found several of the pins, so at least some still exist. Given when this first survey was done (1949) the accuracy of the survey was questionable when I saw all the very round numbers, and seemingly "convenient" bearings that are too low accuracy. No seconds, for example on any leg. Last, given this is a water front property, and tidal too, the water bearings may always have been guesses. Way easier for the guys in 1949 that way. Hi Chopsaw, They are on the PLAT (attached photo on original post) I have never seen this large an error, if in fact that is what is happening. I've seen some minor discrepancies, but this would be really huge by comparison..

A Plot Plan 101 drawing is exhibiting something odd I've never seen before. On attached plan, just a plot plan CAD detail, two of the legs are displaying wrong dimensions. First time I thought perhaps I'd entered them in wrong, so deleted and quickly did it again. Same result, exactly. Starting at the origin 0.0 temp point (x) I went clockwise and it closes at the end. But somehow it is forcing the first leg and last leg to lengthen to close. Too far away for snaps, I think, and I suspect it should not have closed, meaning I think PLAT is wrong? So line just below "X" is being added, and the last westerly leg, which should be the close is lengthened to meet the added line?? First Line Leg should be 388' (ends up 417.56') Last Leg should be 72' (ends up 97.74') Everything else is correct for length and azimuth I had to attach a photo of the PLAT as it was too big to scan as an old blueprint type. Not sure if this helps, but attached is a quick plan I did for a client where grid was done primarily for calculation reasons for materials. Grid is typical 15/16 2x2 grid. You could copy and paste as required to fit you plan. Also attached is a 2x2 tegular tile. Ceiling Tile.calibz Grid.zip

Can't you just make the rafters, which default as wood, then change the material dbx to be steel, aluminum, or anything you want? It will then look like steel, aluminum etc....

I've also wondered about the "late" fee added on if you miss the renewal, even by a day. It clearly is a penalty or fine or whatever you wish to call it. Given you renew, before the next version comes out, which we all know is early each year, not sure I get this. After that time, I can see a penalty box, but prior not sure I do. SSA is something that has only meant the new version, but have only really been happy with the change from X4-X5 as lately many wish list items have not been dealt with. That's just me. So from the SSA renewal of $445 if you are late, add another $95 or $540. If new version comes out before you renew, add another $105 so now you are up to about $645 (normal price). That is based on the "upgrade" prices I see on the website. That might be all well and good, even perhaps fair except for this: See attached or link here> http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/upgrade.html Where someone today, with X6 could "upgrade" to X7 for $516(it's on sale yeah!!!). See the math here? By skipping X7, late fees on X6 and X7, as they clearly did not keep up their SSA on X6 or X7, they will get X7 and soon X8 with a year of SSA for less than someone who was a day late on X7 SSA renewal. That's the part I guess I don't understand. Is the morale of the story that it is far cheaper to skip a version and wait for the inevitable sale deal? That's how I read it...... If you are late, just reinstall X6 and get the sale price to save $24?? Peter Grant, did I miss something in your post, just previous to this?

Yusuf, I think Jon was being "facetious" about the signage. Now I guess I need to explain facetious.... It's a tongue-in-cheek comment..... Tongue-in-cheek means kidding. OK, I think I got through that OK. So Jon was kidding, AKA (also known as) facetious or tongue-in-cheek. My reading of the comment is that he was ribbing you (see facetious) about the size of the sign being "over-the-top" or large. Over-the-top, means going beyond what is "normal" or expected..... Now the easy one...... Reno is short for Renovation, in Americ-Speak (Americ-speak is not any known or recognized term, but rather something I just made up, as in how Americans Speak, or slang. Yusuf, now you need to know that I'm just joking (above) and this is not in any way personal. It's my nature to be a smart arse.

I hate cords, or anything peripheral that I need to bring along to accomplish a task. One thing I have seen people struggle with is the vast amounts of photos they accumulate on their smart phones. Aside of cloud storage, which is limited unless you pay for more useful amounts, an App I have used now for years works great. It's called WiFi Transfer and is a wireless way to move anything to or from your smart phones. I use it to move large batches of photos to my computers, movies or videos to my Iphone, music, or whatever. How this works: Both devices (Iphones, computers, whatever, simply need to be on the same network) (This can be home LAN, or public WiFi) You have the App on your Phone, and simply open it, type the address it gives you into the other device, select the files you will move and it all moves, very fast. This can also be used, for example to get photos, movies, etc. from another smart phone with the app to another (from friend, for example). All wirelessly, no emails, or clouds involved. It's $2.99 at the App Store (just go to App Store and search WiFi Transfer). The software for a computer is free.

I have stopped using virtually all external devices for file transfer. Nearly anything I need to transfer, regardless of size, I use TeamViewer that has an awesome file transfer feature, among many others. I regularly move items between my computers within my LAN, and over the WAN to other computers. Very easy, very fast. Particularly within your LAN, most of us are on Gb speeds, so you can move a lot, fast. Not just files, you can move a folder or as many folders as you want, all at once.

Perry, I think the post was directed at the OP, and not David. I agree, Dave has been a valuable member here for a long time.

Based on prior only other post from OP, now deleted in that thread, and Dave Potter's response, I don't think anyone can offer much help here. It sounds like you had a parting of ways with your designer/architect, who based on the render, may have been using CA. If in fact that was the case, I suspect you don't have any of the original files, for whatever program he was using. That being said, I think given the size of the house that the upper pitch seems unnecessarily steep, adding to overall surface area, and potential to overwhelm gutters in a gully-washer. That's it, can't add anything else to this.....

Joe, not sure what you mean? Are you saying the Win 10 upgrade whacked the association of the Card with CA? That makes sense. I have not "upgraded" to Win 10, as I have not found a compelling reason to do so. If I had Win 8.1 I would jump in a minute, but my Win 7 is very stable, and not sure exactly what Win 10 brings to the table to make it a must jump yet.

Dennis, I have strained my brain to figure it out, and think that I know how. A while back (perhaps about when this started happening, not sure) I was having a problem with the Nvidia GEForce Experience (NGE) software. Those with Nvidia cards know what this is, but essentially its the update driver software for the cards. Many, many people were having issues where when you went to update the card, the NGE would say, "can't connect to Nvidia.....". There were a lot of people posting about it, and none of their solutions worked for me. Eventually, I just uninstalled the NGE, and drivers, then downloaded the NGE and was back in business and downloaded the newest driver. That was earlier this year. I suspect that when I did that, CA just defaulted back to the integrated processor. It was not a connection in my brain, so never went back to re-point the GPU at CA. A point by the way for anyone when upgrading to newest CA versions, Nvidia will not automatically add the new version to the list for GPU use, so it has always been a part of the New CA Version misery for me..... Again, hopefully if anyone else has a problem, they can find this thread and find places to look.

Solved !!!! With thanks to those that helped me narrow this down. OK, curiously, although I had my GPU selected for use with CA, somehow that was changed to allow the integrated processor to handle CA. No idea how that happened, but simply pointed the processor back at the CA X7 and back in business. I post this to help others that may find they have this type problem. Don't assume that what you did can not somehow get "undid". I never checked the very simple solution and assumed my GPU was still handling this, but in fact it was the integrated Intel processor that was evidently the problem. Now I wonder why the Intel is having a problem, but not as concerned as this really was the only manifestation I have seen. Lesson to me? Don't assume and don't ignore the obvious. Thanks again guys !!! Can I pick ME as best answer? :)
