  1. Alan, I saw that, but the radius is still greyed out??
  2. OK, The doorway idea won't work, or at least I can't get it to work. Problem is that there is no control of the radius of the arch. Without that, the merge of the arches will be too low and columns will never cover. I need to be able to control the arch. Ideas? See actual and with doorway capture, attached.
  3. I'll reserve my theory until X7 comes out. I suspect that the amount of man hours required for the fruit version had them all pretty tied up but now that it is done, many of these things could potentially be on the list. Perhaps it would be nice if they at least would communicate their priority in making these decisions as to where they will put their resources (other than the whole business and needing to make a profit blah, blah ). I think of the SSA as primarily my annual tax to keep the newest version, rather than actual support. By paying it, in advance of knowledge of what I might get, it's a bit like on Let's Make a Deal, guessing which curtain to pick. I pick curtain number 2.......no make that curtain number 1.
  4. Charlie, I've heard of veranda, porch, patio, and loggia, but never an arcade in this context? The description of loggia comes closest, but given this location in Panama (tropical) lanai seemed most correct and what we have always called it. Terms aside, and would love to hear others ideas of what this is called out of curiosity, the goal is to get it drawn where it does not create unintended other problems. I had not even considered your idea, and seems most straight forward. Thanks,
  5. Agreed. I typically will come here first and CA as a last resort. I rarely have ever needed to call them.
  6. I have come to believe that these types of threads are simply an exercise in exercising. That is, with few exceptions, not many people from CA show up on this forum and not at all sure if they take note of this, or if they do, whether it has any influence on what they will add to the newest iteration. I might be wrong, but the stairs thing, and auto update elevations has been something I've heard about as long as I've been a member of this club and yet it still has not been addressed. That's too bad as I suspect the very best barometer they could possibly have comes from the very people on this forum, who not only actively use, test and find solutions (work-arounds) to problems, but further, help to spread the knowledge with others. That, perhaps more than anything CA could offer in a new X??, is what makes CA so useful. Just my 2 cents.......
  7. I assume there are numerous ways to do this, but given that the outer lanai and columns support the roof, what is the best way to draw this in CA? Also, to get the actual arch radius' correct. One way, but not sure I'm right is P-solid for arch, ceiling plane and a slab floor? Is that right? House is drawn, less the lanai/roof. Thanks, Keith
  8. I wonder if I can impose on someone with AutoCAD to explode a DWG for me? Tried to import into CA but just an unrecognizable mess. I just need the walls, doors and windows, but all layers are fine too. Note it is metric. CA does not allow you to attach DWG, evidently, so it is on DropBox here>> https://www.dropbox.com/s/19hmn01joylmc6z/HOJA%202%20ARQUITECTURAdwg.dwg?dl=0 Not sure this link will work as my entire tools bar is greyed out and not sure why that is either. See jpg attached Thanks, Keith
  9. Jon, My apologies. I had responded to your previous post via my Iphone, as I was not home, and had not seen you had reposted the plan, changed. Points taken and looks good. Thank You !!
  10. 1) OK, admittedly minor, compared to the very good suggestions previous, how hard would it be for CA to list plants by their common name in library, versus this non-sense. Podocarpus macrophyllus Maki. Really frustrating to plow through all those names, and YES I know about the plant chooser. Pretty sure nobody using the program would prefer the scientific name. At the very least, an option for which way we see it. 2) Also, In playing around with Ray Trace and settings for same, I'll experiment with the various settings. Problem is that I will occasionally hit a bulls-eye with the settings and will have gone through so many that I can't recall what I had set. If program could store, in some manner, the settings previously used. Yes, I know you can save the settings too, but when experimenting the save may be far worse than what you had previously.
  11. I use a PS Lite program that is more than enough for my needs and far less $$ than the full blown version. Has everything I need but I do very little post production tweaks in PS as it makes little difference in what I do. That being said, I still crave the knowledge of how people are doing what they do. Jon's post as an example
  12. Jon, Thanks. Now that it shrunk and I can see it I was able to see the issues and correct. It actually looks quite good. The terrain elevation lines were just traced by me over good data overlay in plan. I did extend the lines over boundary a bit and changed the shape of perimeter. My question to you or anyone is about " deleting" secondary lines. I assume all of mine are primary as drawn with the 2' elevation data. Should I just move those to the other "secondary" layer?
  13. I would love to attend such an online meeting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but two different things being talked about here. First is Jon's technique of using Photoshop or another similar program (post production) to layer in the RT's, line drawings from CA then using other PS layers and tools to add artistic flare. The other is simply RT's within CA that Jintu and a few others are really masters at.
  14. OK, I'm interested as I tried this a few weeks back on an area about 20 acres and the plan became huge, digitally, and other than first try, was never able to get it to show correct in 3D. If anyone wants to look and see what I did wrong, I'll post plan. The elevation data is very accurate for location at the 2' level. Too big to directly post, but link below. My best guess is that the terrain perimeter does not contain the whole area so CA is trying to calculate that? Not sure, but I can't see anything in any 3D views. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dn72aeufmdtnksj/AADwB4_1fTXUJjHvvcE6ywena?dl=0 And now I'm really confused. My 60Mb CA plan that I could not view in 3D was uploaded to DropBox with link above. I downloaded the file to test that link would work OK and was surprised to see that somehow it was now shrunk to about a 6th the size (11-12Mb)? No idea how that happens. I open the plan and can view in 3D and think my assumption on problem was actually right as I see CA has the not defined areas inside perimeter at the extremes.
  15. Thanks guys. That was it. Somehow I was a long way away from the origin, but never occurred to me as I was actually zoomed into the plan when all went white. Being elsewhere in plan never crossed my mind. Thanks again !!!!!!
  16. Yeah, closed and rebooted prior to posting here, as per my original post with same issue. But thank you
  17. Second of this type problem in about a week. Last time all vector type views would not show, just plan and Orthographic would display. It somehow fixed itself. Now, mid work on a plan (terrain elevation related) the screen areas (plan) went all white. Nothing whatsoever will show other than 3D views. Note just the opposite of what happened about a week ago. I can see the plan in the "Aerial View" window, but not main window. Perspective Views all show. Is this a problem with the program or plan? My thought is program as this is a different plan than before. I've tried all the obvious reboots, layers on/off, etc... Can anyone see plan views with this?? Thanks, Keith
  18. Yes, but was still happening after that. Only after testing with other files of other plans, seeing they worked fine, then going back and the problem child worked again. Very odd, and no idea what happened, or how it works again, but it does.
  19. I was just coming back to say, for reasons I can't explain, it works again. I rebooted numerous times, checked and rechecked updates on everything and still the same. Then I tried other plans and they worked, but this one did not. Then recalled I posted the plan under a different name a few days ago on Drop Box and it worked. Went back to the more recent trouble file and it is working again. No idea what happened, or what "fixed" it, but for now it seems good again.... Thanks though Alan.
  20. Another in a long line of weird (at least to me) problems? In a plan that has been working just fine, all of a sudden this evening no 3D renders work? More specifically, none of the "right" camera set work. Full, Floor, Perspective Full, Perspective Floor and Framing show just clouds (sky). On the other hand the "left" cameras Cross section, Backflip, Elevation and all the Orthographic cameras work as normal. Layers are on, and even tried the all on, to see if I tuned off a pertinent layer by mistake. Same results, just sky. Plan views all work fine. I tried closing and reopening the plan, still the same. Video card drivers up to date, and again this worked this morning just fine. Stumped???
  21. Sorry, just ,messing with you. PM me and I can send several I have custom made.
  22. Tommy, I sent you an email. Hopefully this won't impact the decision......
