  1. Sometimes you just have to use manual roof planes and do a bit of editing.
  2. Niche? Niche with applied Shutters? -or- Window with Shutters closed?
  3. If the Scale Graphic is correctly sized and visible in the Plan View then just send the view to Layout. You should actually only need one saved in your library at your normal metric scale. The Drawing Scale should automatically display it at the correct size. The corresponding Text should be a macro that displays the scale of the Plan View
  4. Hi Gene, I think Chief has modified how materials get rotated in the Symbols. They've tried to orient the textures the long direction of long/thin pieces. This is new in X14 so I think what you're seeing is Chief "fixing" the textures. Try assigning just one texture to all the pieces and then create your Symbol. I think that will work correctly.
  5. I don't know of any other way. It would be nice if Chief provided a way to sort by individual columns.
  6. In the Build Roof DBX define the Roof Layers Surface as SIPs. Then after building the Roof Planes and Framing, edit the Rafters (position and length as needed) You can modify the lengths and/or the position of the Rafters. Just make sure you turn off "Auto-Rebuild" for the Roof Framing.
  7. Here's some samples of what I do. These are 3D Mission Roof Tile Symbols placed using Distribution Regions, Distribution Paths and Ridge Caps. Each tile is a symbol but using distribution regions for the field tile and separate symbols for the Ridge Caps and Rake Assemblies the result is just about as realistic as it can get.
  8. Setting the user catalog to be synced via Dropbox or OneDrive should work. Just be aware that any changes made by one user will effect all since it's just one file. It's just a matter of specifying the location for the User Library in Preferences.
  9. Hi Jason,

I checked with several other users in both the Advanced II and Advanced I classes about Skylights.

We're quite happy with the 2D dimensional representation and the ability to specify the "On Plane Size" that was demoed at the UGM.  However, we don't field build the actual skylights.  Typically, we specify a "Velux" skylight or another brand that has a built-in curb & flashing.  Some of these are able to be used as "Egress" and some even have built-in shades.

It would be great if we could have "Skylight Symbols - Flush Mounted" that would have the R.O. size for the hole in the roof that Chief would then use to create the "Roof Hole, Shaft and Ceiling Hole".  It should work similarly to the current "Window Symbols" that cut the hole in the Wall.

ps:  Please note that the "Window Symbols" tool has some bugs that Brian knows about.  Those need to be fixed but essentially the concept is very similar.

FWIW, In the Bonus Library there are Skylight Symbols.  Just about any of these could be used as the Symbol for the Skylight Tool.

The hole would be the size of the symbol minus 2x the Frame/Curb Thickness/Width.

The height above the Roof would be the Frame/Curb Height minus 1".

The "Skylight" would not have the following materials:

      • Skylight Frame
      • Skylight Glass

or they could simply be "No Material" since the "Symbol" would contain it's own materials.

In some cases manufactured Skylights have built-in curbs and flashing.  In that case, the "Skylight Frame/Curb" would need to be suppressed and the height above the Roof would be 0.

I would still like to have a catalog of "Velux" Skylights.  I'll see if I can contact Velus and get a contact for the Content Team.

  10. Hi Jason,

I sent an email to Brian with some comments about the "Project System" proposed for X15 and some comments about "Ruby" and "TMM".  I asked him to forward it to you as well as to Chris TenBrink and Natalie.

I don't have your email addresses and I've not had much luck attaching external files to the PMs.

IAE, I hope the comments will help.

  11. Hi Jay, Take a look at the built-in macros for "Layout Box Labels". They may have what you want. Note also that the name of a drawing in the Project Browser can be used as well. The ability to link referenced names has been greatly improved in X14. Here's a pic of what I do for "Plan Views" For Elevations, Sections and Details I use different settings, but you can experiment to see what works for you. I do have a system for automatically numbering details within a layout page based on their locations. It's a bit complicated to set up (requires a couple of macros) but once done it works.
  12. OK, I tried it in X14 and the wrapping works for me.
  13. Robert, Try the "Comments" column in the schedule.
  14. I would suggest that you look at the help files for terrain. Everything you are asking about is covered in the help file. In addition, there are training videos provided by Chief that cover those topics. There are several users here that are happy to help - but not when the tools are already covered by the help and videos already provided.
  15. Hi Jay, It would appear that it should work - but it doesn't. At least not that I can get it to work. OTOH, I use a custom macro in a Rich Text Box. I've attached the macro which you can import and use. When a RTB is placed in a room, it picks up the room data. room_num_name.json Note that if you need to place the RTB outside of a room you can use a leader line to connect it and get the room data.
  16. You might also want to change the Minimum Display Size for Dimensions in Preferences> Appearance. That is normally set to 8 Pixels - I prefer 4 or 5
  17. Ryan, So I think this classifies as a bug and will report it. I do find there's a lot of difficulty making driveways match the slope of the road they connect to. Terrain object should fit the terrain. It also seems that a wide driveway (30' in my case) doesn't cut the curb correctly when the road slopes about 2'.
  18. I have created a terrain with a road, sidewalk and a driveway. I want the driveway to have a wider width at the road than at the sidewalk, not a radiused flare. I can't get this driveway to cut the curb (road dbx says "Cut Curb at Driveway") There's no dbx setting for an angled apron for the driveway at the road Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  19. The problem is that these Spams are automatically generated using false IDs. The process of blocking the user is therefore totally ineffective. In order to automate the blocking there would need to be one of the following: Content Detection - ie: key words User Verification - ie: subscription, etc Point of Origin - probably not possible if they're routed thru multiple addresses Possibly limit posts to verified members after a certain amount of time - not sure how this could work. I think the "Guest" category should probably be blocked from posting at all. If someone isn't willing or able to become a verified member then they don't belong here.
  20. It was actually more than 8 hours. If you took a close look at the posting times you would have seen that they were at intervals of 3 minutes to 2 hours.
  21. There were about 50 posts beginning about 18 hours ago, all purportedly from Dubai, etc. They each consisted of about 200-250 words of text advertising the sale of "abortion pills". I reported these to Chief just as I have previously. I also attempted to "Ignore" the poster(s) but that didn't work. IMNSHO we shouldn't have to see these at all. I'm not sure how it might work, but maybe it would be possible to require a valid Chief subscription to be able to post - at least in most of the forums.
  22. I really think Chief needs to find a way to block posts based on content. Almost every one of the current set of spam posts have the words "abortion" and "pills" in them. In addition, there are a lot of other specific words that could be used to filter out these posts.
