  1. Not sure what you mean by that. The model is still accurate.
  2. Here's another option... Don't use pony walls. Instead, use foundation walls on the floor below. Using pony walls for foundation walls has all sorts of little problems. The alternatives have challenges of their own though so I'd say there's no perfect answer. It would definitely be nice if we could control pony wall display on a view by view basis though.
  3. For what it's worth, I think it makes perfect sense that Chief removed the extra hatch patterns from the drop-down list. It might not be what we're used to, but now that we have the ability to rotate patterns on an object by object basis, it makes more sense to consolidate patterns for continuity and logicality. The vertical hatch, horizontal hatch, and 2 angle hatches are essentially the same exact pattern except that they're rotated. If Chief adds them back to the drop down now, they're just going to be duplicating patterns and any rotation settings in the dialog box are going to make a lot less sense for those. If for example you have a 45 degree angle set and switch to an angle hatch, it will look like a vertical hatch, the other angle hatch will look like a horizontal hatch, the angle cross hatch will look like a grid, etc. etc. I personally think Chief should just leave it as is. It always took me several seconds to think/sort through which of the angle hatches I wanted anyway. At least I don't have to think about it much now since I know it will be Strip, and then I just set the desired angle. Also, don't forget about both the Object Eyedropper and the new Fill Style Eyedropper. We shouldn't even need to go into that dialog box much of the time.
  4. You don’t have to save anything to the library in this particular instance. IMO it’s faster to just set to strip and change the angle than it is to go to the library.
  5. Yes. If its going into a CAD Detail then the notes are typically for that particular view (CAD Detail). That's easy enough to do in plan now but isn't possible in layout. And I totally agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense to separate those schedules from the view. I just mentioned that even if a person DID do that, they would still need to create the extra layers anyway.
  6. I definitely agree for the bulk of situations. There are those that would make more sense in layout or CAD Details though...particularly when it comes to plan notes.
  7. They should be able to go straight onto the layout page or straight into a CAD Detail in layout IMO. Both.
  8. Just like every other annotation object...if you need more than one for any given view and you don't want them displayed in other views, then you need to use additional layers, no way around it. Having said that, you could place the schedule into a CAD Detail, but it still wouldn't alleviate the need for the extra layer for the notes themselves. I still wish Chief would add the capabilities to... Place notes in layout Create what amounts to a "Plan View Camera" where all annotations only exist in that one view just like an elevation camera Just switch the Active Layer for any/all annotation objects much like Current CAD layer instead of requiring a new default every time.
  9. Totally disagree Joe. It's not like we're drafting by hand here. We're using some pretty complex digital fonts now with some drastically variant characters and heights. Based on the logic of your previous statement, we probably shouldn't have Rich Text in a CAD program either. I for one think that having the capability available is great. Losing capabilities...not so much.
  10. It's not that complicated guys. Chief just needs to use something as the basis for that 6" character height...The capital letter A... ...or information stored with the font based on its various characters and their heights...
  11. It's because there are so many different criteria that can be used when sizing fonts. Look at the height difference between the following characters in even the simplest of fonts... aA|.' Ñ--__ Now tell me whcih one of those characters should be 6" tall. That's the challenge and the reason for the CAD Style Font Sizing setting. Otherwise, Chief uses information stored in the font which can vary a bit depending on the font.
  12. The whole point of that setting is to either control the height based on the height of the capitol letter A OR let information stored in the font control the height. If they acted the same, there would be no point in having the setting.
  13. CAD style seems to work fine to me. You’re using some very generalized statements. There’s any number of characters you could be measuring, but if you place the capital letter A for your chosen font and then measure the height of that letter, does it not match the height set in your dialog? Its working as designed for the font I use.
  14. I say just cap it with a ceiling plane that does not use the room ceiling finish and make sure your roof plane also does not use the room ceiling finish (if you need a finish on that). Should be no reason to adjust the wall settings at all. Also, you could consider just capping it with a landing for the same affect.
  15. Custom macros are the only way I know of.
  16. After you address the invisible wall situation Eric pointed out, open that upper wall, click on the Structure tab, and check Default Wall Bottom Height.
  17. You're more than welcome. It's a pretty unusual scenario. Most of those pop-up messages are session specific. That particular one is semi-permanent and caries through to future sessions.
  18. Maybe you're working in X10 sometimes and in X11 other times.
  19. Masonry fireplaces are built with walls too right? Brick walls, cinder block walls, poured concrete walls, stone walls, etc.
  20. I commonly use actual walls with openings to model these situations. Its actually a more accurate way of modeling those in many cases anyway.
  21. Edit>Preferences>Reset Message Boxes. This is the only thing I can think of that might cause this. There is a pop-up box you get when trying to place a cabinet door in the plan and if she clicked Remember My Choice and then No. She could end up in that scenario.
  22. I think Chief might be trying to slowly phase that tool out. It was removed from the menu but you can still manually add it to your toolbar or assign a hotkey via Customize Toolbars or Customize Hotkeys.
  23. Here's a really quick example plan for you Joe... Example.plan Just toggle back and forth between the "With Fills" and "WITHOUT Fills" Plan Views to see what I mean.
  24. Use the Reference Display. Turn OFF the roof planes in your current view, set the reference floor to the same floor, and then use a reference layer set with only the roof planes turned on. As long as you have "Details" (Use Object Settings) UNchecked, the fill style will not display in the reference display.
  25. I think you'll have to be A LOT more specific. Are you talking about a plan view fill, or a 3D view pattern? What type of object is the pattern or fill being used on? And what is your reasoning for needing it in one view and not another? Are we talking about using for an exported image or for use in layout? There are about 10 different solutions that come to mind depending on the specifics that involve using any combination of layers, layer sets, the Use Layer Color setting, using a more appropriate object, using Plot Line settings, using multiple views, or simply using Toggle Patterns amongst other things.
