My guess is that you have a slab or some other 3D object selected and not a simple polyline.

Those formatting macros in your plan are actually a combination of Chief's and mine.

Good video Larry. I usually just snap from the corner of the house to the corner of the lot line and then use the Make Parallel/Perpendicular tool and relocate as necessary. What you have shown using the Point To Point dimension tool and some of its newer (X9 or X10) functionalities is a very good method though as well. Thanks.

Or just skip the polyline steps and automate the whole thing using the actual molding information provided by the room... Molding test.plan Simply drop a copy of the text box into any room you wish to get the molding quantities for that room...and this is just a pretty quick and simple example of the type of information we can automatically pull from the actual model now.

Here's another way to think about it regardless of whether or not you think its logical to display the floor framing along with the wall system they are bearing on... For all intents and purposes, each floor has walls, a floor, and a ceiling right? What we want to avoid is showing multiple floor/ceiling structures on the same page, so, for the sake of clarity (and logicality in my opinion), Foundation level gets the first floor structure, First Floor level gets the 2nd floor structure, and top floor gets the roof structure. Every level gets one set of walls and one platform.

If you've never seen tat before then you likely don't know what it is. You must have inadvertently check Make Roof Baseline Polylines which is an optional method of controlling Auto Roofs.

Check the Items To Include section of your schedules. Those settings don’t properly carry over during a copy/paste and never have as far as I know.

Wasn’t a problem before we gained the new capabilities. I have no doubt in my mind that adding those patterns back to the drop down now would not be a good thing. It’s much cleaner and more intuitive like it is. How would a rotated horizontal hatch make sense or a rotated vertical hatch, or an angle hatch rotated to vertical? Could get very confusing very fast.

The thing I find that causes people the most problem with the auto dormers tool is not reading up on them to understand their limitations, and not changing the height and/or width settings to accommodate their desired placement.

It’s much cleaner and more intuitive IMO (both for new users and for old users once you realize what’s going on) . Since we can now rotate these patterns on an object by object basis, it makes little sense to include a pre-rotated pattern in the drop down. It could actually be extremely confusing if a rotation angle were set.

You also have a Stem Wall Top elevation of 4" on all those upper rooms that should probably be changed to zero as well.

First change the ceiling for that foundation room to zero and then change the floor to zero.

Just a side note here, but don't forget we can also directly access the actual molding information using macros as well... ...it's a bit more complicated than some of the other stuff though.

You have to block it and then rotate it.

Sounds like there's a wall in the way to me. I always have to pull the wall back first, place the window, and then reconnect the wall. Either that, or change the wall to Invisible, move the window, and then change the wall back to a normal wall.

If she’s just wanting to modify elevations, maybe send over a 3D DXF or 3D DWG file. I assume ArchiCAD has some form of a CAD Detail From View tool.

You have to add the Comments column to your schedule.

A polyline has a perimeter attribute and has for a long time. A room also has a perimeter attribute now. If you want to use the perimeter of a room somewhere other than the actual room label though, you need to use room.perimeter. The latter will not return the perimeter of a plain old polyline though. It will return the perimeter of the room it is located inside of (if it is).

Another thing I personally do sometimes is convert my polyline to a molding polyline (no molding) which gives me a second label layer to work with...

Those copies are typically created when you create CAD Details from View. Delete the CAD Details from view or replace the blocks in those views with the originals.
