Need different floor heights for adjacent structures / addition.
DBCooper replied to Builder921's topic in General Q & A
When you quote someone, you should be able to manually edit it to remove parts you don't care about. Not sure if it still sends them the notification though. You can also tag someone using this format: @Builder921 if you want them to respond. -
Custom Two Panel Cabinet Door — Adjustable Split?
DBCooper replied to CooksDesign's topic in General Q & A
I don't know of a way to do this. It's pretty easy to take a 2 panel door and setup a stretch plane so that one panel is a fixed size and the other panel will vary depending on the height of the door. I can't think of a way to design one so that you can adjust the size of upper and lower panels independently though. Maybe @Renerabbittor @MarkMcmight have a trick (both of them are very clever at figuring out these kinds of things). It really wouldn't be that hard to create a new door symbol every time you need a new one though. You can create a door symbol plan that uses cabinets to build the door model and then it would be very quick to adjust it and generate a new door panel symbol. This thread here has more info about how to do that: -
I think by "full version", it's probably going to be the public beta. That means anyone should be able to download it and try it out instead of having to "apply" to get on the private beta and sign an NDA. My guess is that they wouldn't let anyone else join the private beta at this time since it looks like we are getting really close to the public beta. I did a search for the announcement about it and it looks like it was removed.

Still not sure exactly what you are trying to do. If you have a T-shaped house with gables on the ends, the ridge lines are only going to line up if the ends of the house are the same size. If they are not the same size, then you can adjust the pitch to get the ridge to line up. See pictures below as an example.

Like I said, it's pretty basic.

chief architect x15 standard view walls not showing
DBCooper replied to resdes's topic in General Q & A
Not sure about macs. Check the system requirements to see if your machine is supposed to work: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/sysreq.html If it does, then you should probably call tech support on Monday. -
It's pretty basic and will only change the handrail that goes up against a wall. This picture shows a normal railing, one with extensions, one with extensions/returns, and the last one with just returns.

Layout Box - Reference Display Objects not Showing / Plot Lines
DBCooper replied to JKEdmo's topic in General Q & A
According to the help documentation, it isn't supported. Looks like you might need to submit a feature request. -
Layout Default Annotation Set doesn't include Arrows.
DBCooper replied to amddrafting's topic in General Q & A
Never noticed it was missing before but I agree with you that it should probably be there. Did you send Chief a bug report or feature request? I am pretty sure they won't respond to a random post like this. -
Might be one of those cases where the view is drawing off the screen. Try hitting "fill window" (F6) to see if that makes it show. The other thing to check is if you are using a layer set that has everything turned off. If not one of these things, then you might want to post the plan .

How did you get what you are already showing? Assuming you are using a "specified" label, you should be able to use %elevationf% to get the same as the automatic label. If you want it formatted differently, you can use %elevation% and add your own formatting options such as %elevation.to_ft.round(0)%. If you need something more complicated, then you would probably need to write your own custom macro.

I played around with it for awhile to see if I could figure out a way to cause the kind of problems you are seeing and I couldn't. This sounds like a case for tech support.

Here are some tech articles that have more info that might help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00973/message-unable-to-open-the-file.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00099/accessing-your-archive-files.html

Are your angle snaps turned on? You can usually tell when they are off because you will have a symbol that looks like the angle snaps button following your cursor around. Are you in "alt" mode? You can usually tell because you will see "Alt" following your cursor around. You won't see this if you are just holding down the alt key, or using the right mouse button, or the control button, or maybe even some others. Did you mess around with your allowed angles in your general plan defaults? If you did, this could cause the problem you are seeing. If it's not one of those things, then you might want to post your plan or contact tech support.

Your plan is unavailable. Maybe you had it open when you tried to upload it.

I hope you mean X6 because I don't think you can import anything from version 6. Even X6 is old enough now that I would expect to find some problems with whatever you bring forward. You might want to make a fresh start instead.

As Chris and Larry both showed, you can just choose the arrowhead style that goes the other way. Another thing you could do is not use the cross section line with an arrowhead and use the leader line instead. Just select the callout and drag the diamond handle at the bottom to create it the same way you can for text objects. This should let you move the callout wherever you want.

Nope. You can use the search tool which is waaay faster than scrolling. You can also use the ALDO which will only show you the layers for the object you have selected.

How to stop light switches from changing single pole to 3 pole
DBCooper replied to Ed_Orum's topic in General Q & A
Open the switch dialog and turn off "automatically change switch type when wiring". -
How old was the older version? Is it on the same machine as the new version? Depending on your answers, you might be able to use the auto migration to make this happen. If not, you will have to do it manually by exporting it from the old version and importing it into the new version. These tech articles should help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00001/backing-up-chief-architect-content.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00091/restoring-chief-architect-content.html

Try making the cabinet side a custom face instead of an end panel. Then you can make any face item an inset panel.
-
Well the most obvious answer is to call back tech support since their suggestion didn't solve the problem. Does this problem happen even with a very simple walkthrough in a very simple plan? If not, then it is probably something in the plan. If it does, then it might be a problem with the codec you are using. You can try using a different one and this article has more info: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00076/specifying-what-video-codecs-to-use-for-walkthroughs.html

Dimension Lines OK on Layout but Too Thick on PDF
DBCooper replied to sea_lyons's topic in General Q & A
Did you send it to layout as a live view or as plot lines? I usually use plot lines so I am not sure how and when the live views update the line weights. Do you have line weights turned on when you are looking at the layout? If not, then you won't be able to tell what they will look like when sent to a pdf or printed. -
Did you put the new studs on a layer that is not being shown in the other views? There could be other reasons they don't show but this is the most obvious thing to check. Also, it might depend on how you drew them in the cad detail. I always find it is easiest to just make a copy of an automatically built stud then it is to draw new ones. If you click on the copy tool button and then drag from the move handle, it will stay aligned between your plates. The only other thing that I can think of is if you ever rebuilt the wall framing for the wall. This would toss all of your changes and then give you the default framing. If none of this helps, then I would recommend that you post the plan that has the problem so that someone can poke around in it.

Joey's method works if you want all of the rails and stiles to be 3/4". If you just want either the left or right stile to be 3/4", you need to do that on the cabinet sides page of the cabinet dialog and it only shows up if your cabinet is a face frame cabinet.
