  1. Here is a tech article that might help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02772/troubleshooting-library-download-issues.html If that doesn't help, then I would contact tech support on Monday.
  2. Do you have a room under it? If so, then you should be able to just place the light. If not, then try to place it inside the house and then drag it under the roof. If that doesn't work there are other work arounds.
  3. Open the dialog for your wall on the far left. See if you have an "upper pitch" specified on the roof page. If it's not that, then post the plan.
  4. Probably best to start a new thread when you have an unrelated question. Try a search for "roof plan" on this forum.
  5. I don't think trees and other "billboard" images can be converted into symbols. At least I could never make it work. Try creating a solid or a soffit and put the decal image on that instead.
  6. I haven't seen this either but I did have a couple of thoughts... Are you using the latest update? They did release several but I kind of doubt they are going to release any more since I don't think X17 is that far out. Did you ever report this to Chief? Expecting them to fix something without reporting it isn't usually going to work. You might want to post a plan with one of these large blocks to see if other people see the same problem. Could be something in the text or it could just be something going on with your machine.
  7. Personally, I would probably keep X12 installed just in case you need to make some changes to an old plan and don't want to bring it forward into X16. Once you save a plan in X16, you won't be able to open it up in X12 and if you let your subscription run out, then you won't be able to open it at all.
  8. Sounds like an issue for tech support. In the meantime, you could always just use the pdf of the reference manual that you can get here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/documentation.html
  9. Is it possible that you downloaded the X16 version and you are still using X15?
  10. I recommend watching all of the quick start videos and then going through the tutorial guide. Then I would pick and choose training videos based on areas that you need more help in. This is a good starting point: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/getting-started/ You might also want to check out the training events page because it looks like the "residential intro" class is free along with the residential and K&B bootcamp classes: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/events/
  11. I'll just ask the obvious first, are you using the same DPI? Did you try it with the same plan on both machines? I have not used a mac myself so I don't have any thing to compare to. I have seen some big differences on windows though when I have a layout with live views or when I tried to set my DPI too high.
  12. What happens when you "crash"? Do you get any error messages or does the program just boot you out? Do you only have problems when doing a walkthrough or do you have problems when making camera views using PBR (with or without RTRT)? Do you only have the problems with just the one plan or all your plans? I'm not really an expert at these kinds of problems but answering these questions might help you to figure out if it is a plan issue, video card issue, or just a walkthrough issue. If it is only happening in this one plan, then maybe there is something in the plan that is the problem and I would start deleting things and doing a "save as" to figure it out. If it happens with other camera views, then it is probably a video card issue and I would start looking at drivers or card settings. And if it only happens when doing a walkthrough, then it could be a bug in the program but might also be something as basic as running out of memory or disk space when trying to record it. The first place I would go for more help is here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/troubleshooting-3d-camera-view-display-problems-in-chief-architect.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03049/troubleshooting-chief-architect-software-closing-unexpectedly-on-windows.html And if neither of those helps, you might want to contact tech support on Monday.
  13. What version are you using? You may not have all the same tools that are in X16 and the ones you do have may work different.
  14. I have a 4070 card and I fired up my old X13 version and it seems to run just fine. I only ran it for about 5 minutes though so if problems start happening after a while I might not see them. BTW, another thing to check is to make sure you have the latest X13 update. I have 23.4.1.8 which I think is the last one they put out. My video card driver is below.
  15. What version are you coming from? I don't think Chief has renamed any layers in a while. If they did, I didn't notice. If you open an old plan and want the latest Chief names for the system layers, you can just use the "reset names" button. I don't think this will make any changes to your custom layers though. You can use whatever naming you like for your custom layers and I don't think the program cares.
  16. Dude, you replied to a post that is over 2 years old. Whatever problems they were having with the nvidia drivers back then are probably not related to the problems you are having now (other than it is also a video card or driver problem). First, try checking out this tech article: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/troubleshooting-3d-camera-view-display-problems-in-chief-architect.html If that doesn't help you, then you should probably contact tech support. I think they will charge $125 you since you are using an older version but it might be worth it if you are crashing every 4 minutes.
  17. Could be lots of different things such as your dimensions going to the drywall instead of the framing. But if I was to make a guess, I would bet that it has to do with how you are rounding your dimensions and how accurate you laid out your walls. Your picture is not really enough to tell what is going on. Post your plan.
  18. @GeneDavis See if this works better for you: Your "pilaster" is just a base cabinet that is 1 1/2" wide with no toe kick. Your pilaster can also be deeper or shallower than your cabinets if you like. You can remove either the left side or right side of a cabinet by setting the side to "none" on the "front/sides/back" tab. You can then set the left or right stile width to 0" on the front face. This will give you a cabinet with no side. In the picture below, the cabinet on the left is using closed toe kicks, which is why there is a space between the stile and the toe kick. The cabinet in the middle has the sides removed and I have placed 1 1/2" cabinet pilasters next to it. The one on the right is the cabinet with the pilasters pushed together.
  19. I think one way to solve this is to make that a wall instead of a railing and then you should be able to make it sloped past the end of the stair. When you have a solid rail set to follow the stairs you don't have much control over the shape or slope. Nice house, btw.
  20. I don't think there is a way to just import all of those line styles directly into your plan. You can just click on the line style in the library and then draw a line in your plan and that will bring it in automatically. If you do this in your template plans, then they will always be there for new plans. I suppose if you wanted to be clever about it, you could always make a cad block with those lines and then save the block in your library. When you drop the cad block into a new plan then all of the line styles should get imported in one step. I'm not really sure why you want to have them all in the plan though since they are already in the library.
  21. I missed that your picture only shows the cutout on the front. I think just using a separate symbol for the base with the cutout is probably going to be the easiest solution. You might want to send Chief a suggestion asking for this so that they could make it something that would work better in the future.
  22. I don't think you can. At least, I haven't found a way. I suppose you could always copy a layout box and then relink it to a different camera but I'm not sure that this is really all that much faster then just changing the settings.
  23. You could probably do what you need using cabinet "feet". You would need to create a custom symbol for the corner piece for each style you have. Take a look at the "curved foot" and the "dual arch" in the core catalog.
  24. Here are a couple of other things that might help. First, go into your general wall defaults and set the "resize about" to "outer surface". Doing this will make it so that when you modify the wall type definition that they will stay where you have drawn them. Next, open up the wall type dialog for your "siding-6 - existing farmhouse" and move the stone so that it will be your exterior layer instead of in your main layer. This should fix your gap problem. The floor/ceiling platforms will build to the outside of your main layer which is why you have a gap. You might also consider a different naming style since there is no siding in this wall type. While still in the wall type dialog, go to the "wall properties" page and set the dimension layer to be the stone layer instead of the framing layer. This should fix the problem with your dimensions going to the framing instead of the stone exterior like you wanted.
  25. I am guessing that you set the floor pattern in the room dialog. The base cabinet probably has its fill style set to have transparency which is why you can see the floor pattern underneath it. You should be able to get what you want by making the fill style fully opaque. In the future, I recommend a larger picture. The one above is pretty small.
