  1. Tech has the plan and can see no problems.
  2. Only in the 'Perspective Floor Overview' and I really don't want to change my camera settings as this hasn't happened ever in any other plan so I don't want to mess up the settings that have been very very good to his point.
  3. Thanks Jonathan - It's very close. Just spoke to and sent the plan in to tech support. They didn't know the cause.
  4. This just started up. Never seen it. Anyone else?
  5. Are printing to 'fit page' or 'to scale'?
  6. No transparent text in Chief. What is it you're trying to do? Watermark? That can be done with gray text set to the back Layer, but no transparent text in Chief that I know of.
  7. If you're serious about learning Chief then why not? This forum will get you up to speed pretty quickly but be prepared for a fairly interesting ride.
  8. You can't save, and hence can't post, a plan from the trial version. You might be able to grab a screen shot to explain your problem, but the plan file is always best so the forumites can see what you're doing wrong/right.
  9. Hey Scott, glad you got it worked out. I think the nature of your question, drawing simple exterior walls, lead us to think you weren't really trying and just 'trolling' the forum for a response but not really interested in one. Since you've now formally introduced your self please feel free to ask questions about any aspect of Chief. You will find some amazing help here on the forums.
  10. You HAVE to be doing something wrong and probably like Dennis is suggesting you might be stuck in a mind set from another program but drawing exterior walls is giving you problems? There's something else going on as a child (7 years old obviously) can learn to draw exterior walls in Chief.
  11. buzz, Try going to Defaults>Layer Sets>Cross Sections and set up any Layer Set you'd like as your default.
  12. Got it and I think you're right - interesting.
  13. Not sure that schedules are the only thing that automatically updates in a CAD Detail. I think all CAD details automatically update to the Layout. Not elevation views, but those, technically, are not CAD Details.
  14. Love Sketchup's interface, love Chief's focus on residential design and 3D. Also love SU's ability, and the skilled user's ability to detail as shown above, but here's something I've learned working with many contractors over the years. They don't want details. Sometimes they get stuck and ask for advice from me or my Structural Engineer but mostly the fewer details I can include in the plans the better they like it. Not so they can short cut the code and build crap, but rather it gives them the flexibility to build it right in the field instead of following some 2D or 3D representation of how some designer thinks it should be built. I have a feeling that might go against the inclination of some who feel the need to detail everything in an exacting manner, and for some clients it's needed, but for the most part I don't need and can't use the wonderful 3D detailing shown in the video above.
  15. Hey Johhny, here's a video on the difference between Schedules in the plan and Schedules in a CAD Detail.
  16. Thanks you guys, do you have them open in a CAD window while working with windows/sizes/changes to insure the Schedule(s) stay correct? I've had them in my plans forever. Seems easy enough, just another habit to develop. OT - Off for my Sunday morning Ocean swim - love it - the water is really nice in San Diego right now.
  17. I am experimenting with the Window/Door Schedules in separate CAD details, instead of part of the plan view, and miss the ease of having the Schedule with the plan while modifying the schedule. Of course I can open the CAD detail in another window and observe changes data but it's an extra step and an extra monitor (I have 3) and am not quite sure of the benefit yet. Biggest benefit I can see is that the schedule will have it place on the Layout pre-defined and pre-sent to Layout. Curious, what do you do? Schedules in plan view or a CAD detail? Other?
  18. ...then just started up out of the blue....strange.
  19. Nuthin here. Getting a "The program is already running..." message when I try again. No worries I'm done for the day.
  20. Shut down tried to restart - nuthin.
  21. Couldn't open it either Alan, must be a bad file.
