I found it. Must be a brain issue. When I opened up the wall types list and defined them there it worked.
-
I don't remember having this problem before X7. When I change the default wall materials, the walls that I've already drawn (and there are lots) are not changing. I'm finding that I have to open up each wall, or group select them, to change the materials. Am I missing something?

Every time I open Chief X7 it says there's an update available. But I have the latest. When I try to run the update it thinks I want to repair something. Is anyone else getting this?

It hangs for hours. I had no problem with X7 on my other computer. The problem developed with this new (older) computer.
-
Tommy, it hangs as soon as I hit the Print button regardless of what my output attempt may be. I don't even get as far as choosing the printer.

Thanks Jeff! I may take you up on that!

My office computer crashed and I'm having to work on a laptop. For some reason I can't print. As soon as I hit the print button (or File>Print) the program hangs forever. I get the little turning wheel thing and can't use Chief. Have to Ctrl>Alt>Del and force it to close. Everything else works. I'm stumped! All I want is to print PDFs!

Hi Michael, Yes, X7 is still in beta, but it is very solid. I've had almost no issues. Unfortunately I've done quite a bit of work on the files in X7, so I can't revert without losing it. Another user already responded to this request and will work on it next week, but I'm always open to building new relationships. I anticipate requesting collaborative help on construction documents for the foreseeable future if business continues as is. Regards,

Design is getting busier and busier, and rather than keeping clients waiting, I'd like to streamline my process. What slows me down are construction docs. I've been accused of attempting perfectionism (which any decent "perfectionist" would admit is impossible), so I'm looking for someone very detail oriented. My projects are almost always high-end remodels, although I'm getting some new build inquiries. I am always the designer of record and often recommend a general contractor whom I typically oversee, but I do no contracting (that was a past life). Therefore as much gray area as possible must be eliminated from the plans. I've attached two zipped layouts: A typical Adam Gibson plan set that includes a small addition to be used as an example of my finished product. A (client name blanked) plan I've yet to finish that needs the remaining cabinet and window elevations and steel post/beam details. The unfinished set will need a lighting and electrical plan that I'll take care of. If I can find the right person to collaborate with on an ongoing basis, it could be a win-win for all. I have no idea what to expect to pay, but I do know that I'd want a fixed price per plan for which I'd identify a very specific scope of work. Typically it would be all elevations and cross sections and a framing plan if needed. I'd give the drafter the completed schematic, including renderings and whatever notes are needed to "get it." In the case of the plan I've attached, in which the footprint is not expanding, it only requires the cabinet and window elevations and steel post/beam sections. If anyone's interested, please let me know! AGD Typical Plan Set.zip Blanked Kitchen 10.zip

It's been great for me, the few days I've had it.

I deleted Chief Blueprint in WIndows. Each old plan that I then opened needed to select the replacement font (Blueprintdbt). No problems since.
-
Don't get me wrong. I use a whole bunch of hot keys. But I love seeing the ALDO show my layers every time I select an object.
-
I've used the hot key but never got used to it. Much prefer the new method.

Got it. Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks Larry. What's OT?

I haven't used the new line features yet, but I look forward to it. I just noticed another thing that's cool. I like to render using the watercolor tool. I've lessened my use of photorealistic raytraces in order to provide a more abstract look for clients, but many of the manufacturer's stone textures take forever to render. Not anymore! It flies through it. I don't even have time to write this post. Still waiting for a cabinet lift-door. Maybe someday. . . .

There are some major improvements in this release. So far, my favorite is the Active Layer Display Options window. Holy moly, what a time saver! Since it's always open (in my case on a second monitor), anything I select in my plan is automatically selected in the layer window. It makes displaying and changing objects and their attributes a snap! There are other great features that I'm sure we'll all proclaim. Having said that, my opinion of this release is that it's an improvement for our workflow, but not a milestone (stairs anyone?). They can't all be huge releases though, and I welcome this one. My 2¢.

I hope it helps!

I edited my previous posts to reflect the correct font.

I do use text blocks in my layouts. Quite large ones. No problems that I can see. I was mistaken about the Window's font. It is actually blueprintdbt.
-
That is interesting. I've never had a problem with my font. I just opened an older layout and elevation in which I used Window's Blueprintdbt with lots of text. No issues.
