just wondering what you guys and gals like to use for elevation views. when i send to the plot shop for my prints, sometimes technical illustration has blurred/shiny areas and vector view is just too dark for non colored prints. line drawing type creates crooked lines. how do you guys use the program for the best prints as far as the elevations go? i give a color rendering of the front of the home on sheet 1 of my plans. just want the black and white elevations to look as good as possible.
  3. Thanks guys, i will give those a try.
  4. How do you typically insulate these type of ceilings? Roof properties from top to bottom are.....shingles, felt, osb, beadboard on top of 2x6 rafters.
  5. Ok, so three pieces. I was trying to make it one. Not quite 30' span but have some more to do for sure. Thanks
  6. every project is a new adventure. i want to have the the top of this polyline solid beam trimmed to the underside of the roof. would the outline have to be drawn in a elevation view then subtracted in a plan view?
  7. why not change the views to line drawing. done.
  8. i had this happen about a month ago. i ended up deleting the framing, was time consuming. every time i rebuilt the wall framing it came back.
  9. where can we set the auto elevation to pull from the top of slab and not the top of the finished floor thickness? if i have 12' ceilings i want to show 144". not 11'11 5/8".
  10. yeah, i painted the rim joist. that strip looks like a moulding but it isn't.
  11. it won't let me left click. doesn't recognize it.
  12. i built decking for the porch and run the stemwall to the underside of the rimjoist? what are the strips so i can remove them?
  13. If chief is setup to build this type structure than yes. I was going to cut a recess on the roof and run the wall up. May not be the best way.
  14. It is chief related. Setting the top fascia height for building a roof is in the program.
  15. Is this considered a dormer or is the "top fascia height" of the roof just lowered to accomplish this? Its tricky because i had to move the bottom of 2nd floor window to 40" above floor to avoid the 3:12 porch roof from running into it. I tend to make things alot harder than they really are by the way.
  16. plan check worked....learned something new. never knew of plan check
  17. already did and my "show living area label" is already checked
  18. apparently i turned of the sq footage label. where can i turn it back on at?
  19. i have been lucky since my ssa expired this past december. everytime i need to go to the chief 3d library the materials i need are free. i don't mind paying the $2.99 tho if need be. that's nothing. i will definately upgrade in december.
  20. Cost of doing business i agree. If there arent that many changes in the program to make it better whats the point in my opinion. Just like autocad. You dont need to upgrade for every release. Nothing changes that much. However they rent their software now which has it cons but i need it to keep for certain drafts
  21. So they charge more if you wait every other edition. I got it. I mean x12 has some cool new stuff i hear, like tray ceiling so i will probably go with that. What about the my library, will it be affected? Also, do you uninstall the x11 when upgrading to x12 to save space on your computer?

    Upgrade

First started using chief in late 2018 with X11. I skipped the X12 update but plan on doing the upgrade in december of this year. Two questions, is there another edition being released by then and will I lose everything in my bonus library i have accumulated for two years? Thanks.
  23. me either but "barndominimums" have become quite popular down here in south alabama. this is like my third one in a year's time.
