  1. I have debated quitting additions and focus primarily on new builds. But the additions keep me going. I really don't like them though. I do bang out some good work on them if i take them.
  2. I hear ya! Most homes i do additions for the owners arent the best house keepers and measuring around their clutter for interior wall dims would drive me nuts lol. I am not bashing anyone who doesnt keep a clean house by the way, just saying.
  3. I charge by the addition square foot and site work so im actually adding more for free ONLY to make a better product and because chief is a speedy piece of software. I take pride in what i deliver and the whole project rendered looks awesome on the title sheet. Totally get your method too!
  4. Thanks! Exactly what i say. You cant just show one exterior wall that the addition ties into. Talk about incomplete and confusing as hell.
  5. One thing I forgot, i do not include any of the existing interior walls unless it ties into the addition somehow. I only draw the shell of the existing home with doors and windows.
  6. How many of you guys go the extra mile, like myself, and include drawing the existing home with the addition. What i like to do is go to the site, take pics, take exterior measurements and return to the office and draw the whole thing with new addition. I delivered my client's plans and he thought i went overboard. First time i ever heard that, not to mention the price will remain the same so why not get a better product for your money? More is better in some situations, not to mention i think it makes it easier for the county to approve when they see a nice rendering of the overall project. I normally hatch out the existing home on the plan views but not in the elevations. What about you guys?
  7. i searched the forum from the home page and sifted through them and did not see anything from mick. i am not a first name basis with anyone on here, i go back screen names so half the time i have no clue who so and so even is. i happen to notice alaskan's name on his sig is michael and thats it.
  8. solver, like i said above, you guys have no clue on how me or anyone else do help ourselves. i go to the CA website directly and type keywords into the search box. if i am unsuccessful, i come here. sometimes it still isn't clear. when i get a hit on something and it tells me what to do but doesn't tell me where the setting is located it's really of no help to me.
  9. alaskan, i have said many times on here as well that the forum is a last resort for me. i am self taught and have got to where i am comfortable with the program and my end results are really nice plans. i am still learning about all the settings. you probably should know i have a wine buzz right now too. your lucky my words are even spelled right lol.
  10. and that's what i meant by not scrolling down far enough when i thought i hit the end. i am still yet to see your screenshot. it doesnt matter now, it makes sense and i appreciate the help no matter how it comes.
  11. omg, someone understands me thanks!
  12. dude, the help files dont always have screen shots. when someone or a help file tells me what to do i'm like ok. but where is that setting located. i am more of a visual guy on some things. i would have never thought to look there without help
  13. and now i understand and see where there was more scrolling to do to see kbird's post. thanks for the tip anyhow
  14. kind of unprofessional reply ya think michael? if i gave that response i would have got negative rep. i never claimed to be an expert CA expert yet. everything i HAVE figured out from myself or help on the forum goes down the drain when something challenges me and i don't get it.
  15. and i'm obviously looking in the wrong settings. hence it kicking my butt.
  16. yep and didn't understand any of it. guess i'm stupid huh?
  17. it's kicking my butt.....dont see where im going wrong. plan attached for extra help on this one. Denis_Foley_Addition.plan
  18. i just got back to this and are still confused. the terrain is clearly below the top of slab in the attahcments but the story pole dims wont change.
  19. this doesn't seem right. are my settings off? this is a typical slab on grade, top of slab should be 4" above grade. both dims shouldn't read 0'0.
  20. depending on how cluttered the floorplan gets, i sometimes turn off electrical in the working layer set. lately i only show electrical in the electrical layer set. i only toggle where i show in the attachment. i let the layer set toggle automatically when i switch plan views. update: i opened the file today and everything is still there. i am now saving before i exit instead of hitting the exit button and then saving when i am prompted.
  21. yeah, i already added them, thanks!
  22. No clue then, i saved it saturday night. Opened sunday afternoon and things were missing. This happens alot with me. And i never mentioned that the floorplan always stays up to date. Its only the electrical that has this issue.
  23. gotcha, perfectly clear now. i only "save as" a new file if they say "let's look at this option and make these changes to see we like it better than the first design". i open my recent files like in the attachment.
  24. you are scaring me lol. different version?? no, i should be? i have had X11 since it was released. once i begin a project, i start a new plan file and save the plan file before exiting. i open the plan file the next day and continue with my design.
