I have thought about this same thing. Valuable people here 100%. I try and give back when I can without sounding repetitive from other users.

that looks pretty cool, I can do the 3d shape but thought for sure there would be a setting to get this footer auto built.
-
yes, I have and when I rebuild the fdn it will default to my exterior wall type which is block with brick veneer.

So, I am trying to finally figure out how to get chief to build interior grade beams (detail shown below) for stem wall foundations with backfill. Chief defaults to either concrete or block stem walls for any interior wall we check to build a footer below. How can I get it to build it like I am describing. I have gotten used to just doing the auto detail command on my cross sections and then manipulating the "fill" of the footer to the shape and size I want but I know there has to be a correct way to do this. See shots below. I am not sure if this is common nationwide but here in Alabama it's the way builders do it. Thanks!

Good info! I watched the video on importing CAD file surveys into chief and my jaw dropped you can actually do that and it slope the land and everything. This piece of property I am asking about in the thread has insane slope.

Very clean site plan! I like your perpendiculars.

Just wondering how you guys pull accurate dims on site plans with odd shaped lots. Do you try and pull a dim from the edge of the home to perpendicular or just straight like shown below? I have done both before. I can imagine when a builder stakes out the home it has to be hard on these types.

I am still on X13 and was wanting to clean this up. I don't plan on going to X14 anytime soon, at least not until the end of the year. I apparently did not export correctly when I went from X12. All my stuff is there but it would be nice to clean it up.

Every since I upgraded to X13, my library has been unorganized. I have learned to adapt to it. If we cannot drag and drop the files back in the correct folders how can this be fixed? I will use this info for when I go to X14 as well. User catalog should only be the symbols I make correct?

learned something new from this!

Pretty cool, never thought of that. And I found by doing so i was off by 45 minutes when I manually added the times.
-
Yeah, I need to renew my excel.......Thanks

Can someone teach me the way to get certain times added up? I thought before we could click a date, hold shift, then click the last date and it would add the hours for ya. Can't get it to work now (x13). In this case I want it to add June 20th-june 22nd total time. Thanks! I tried messing with the "start" and "end" pulldowns but I got some wacky hours.

COOL VID!

Agreed, I was lazy this time haha. I guess when I think about it, take a 3" brick and add 1" air gap that gives you the 4". I'm just one of those guys who has to ask questions to answer my own questions. Sometimes, I would like to program my brain accurately.

Would it be considered correct the way it is shown? If you look at the 3d model it all falls in line.

I hate brick homes, they do this every time. If the floor plan is saying 104' and the foundation says 104'-4" that's fine if you tell them "edge of brick ledge". But what dictates that extra 4". Brick ledges are 3" correct? What is that 2 1/4" dim below in the pic. I do not want to screw up the very first thing that is done on a home.

well, that cleared that up! It worked. Much appreciated!

hmmm, do half walls create a different type of room?...no options to check that on my end. Also, that is a custom counter top I added on top so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it.
-
Guys, I am building an island with half walls in the middle to rest the cabinets against as well as adding outlets on them. How can I get rid of the hole in the ceiling plane since it is seeing the space as a room? the space is listed as "unfinished".
-
I will look into both methods from you and chop. I have been manually building my porches lately with the beams and columns.
-
very true....I should have called it an exposed stained/painted beam or something. I knew someone would catch that.
-
What is the correct way to achieve this? I want the board and batten brought down to hide the LVL. I like exposed beams but the owner doesn't. Attached is a screen shot showing the simple dropper tool and the pattern not orientated right and essentially this is not a "real world" way of doing it but it is quicker to get the point across. Note that I used a ceiling beam and edited the size and type to 12' LVL. Would you..... (a) create a new pattern rotating the board & batten 90 deg? or (b) build a polyline solid, give it the B&B material and attach to the side of the LVL?

Dimension reach sounds like a plan.
