So what did you end up doing Rob for the original question?

Been doing a lot of pier houses as of late myself.

You are close to me Michael.....everyone is wanting me to do these beach homes on the gulf coast in AL & FL.

Went with this method which I don't know why I didn't visualize it in the first place.

Alternatively why have a dropped beam for the Deck area, you have enough room in the floor structure there to have a hidden beam there that the joists can hang from

  3. Got a duplex guys, both apartments are the same, just mirrored. I noticed we cannot copy the walls and paste in place in one apartment and mirror on the center wall to the other apartment. How do you guys accomplish this?

You can just click in your librar to add a material and drop that image in the texture panel with size set to stretch to fit, then click on it in library and spray on a solid

I send all views to layout in "vector". The sign doesn't show up but it does in perspective view. Would you send the elevations to layout in "standard"? Your method worked great....btw

    Right on Rene, Thanks!

What are you looking for, what do you mean? it seems like you just provided what you needed in the post. Are you refering to some sort of object, material, dwg?

Thats a screenshot off the internet of what I am needing.....I did the design for an engineer of a bathroom and the city is requiring men and women signs on the doors on the elevations. I also forgot how to add the material/image to an object/pline solid if that is what you are asking.

Little tricky since its a drop beam and not a wall.  But you can do it many ways.  A few that come to mind:

1.) Add an opening no material section to your floor definition above that

    2.)  3d Solid

3.) Drop your ceiling to be inside that space possibly adding an "opening no material" portion to the ceiling definition.

    or

Alternatively why have a dropped beam for the Deck area, you have enough room in the floor structure there to have a hidden beam there that the joists can hang from.

P.S. You need a column in that corner, and its a PE's consultation but if you are able to get away with a beam that small with just 2-3 columns I would be shocked (maybe above as trusses could cantilever that.)

Thanks man, I will give those a try. The project is incomplete in many areas. I took the screenshot when I was thinking of the beam.

  8. Working on something new here guys. There was a thread a while back that explained this but how do we bring down the wall material to cover porch beams? I cannot and do not want to push them "up" to hide them. Thanks

By the way I use the "floor/ceiling beam" tool to create these if that matters........

    Hello,

I have 16" o.c. selected for wall framing.  My exterior walls are showing up as 24" o.c.  How can I get that changed?  I have looked high and low for a setting.

    Thanks!!

    Allan

Is this where you selected it?

Your photo shows parallel chord trusses sitting atop walls.  Not bearing on top chord.  Your can build either way, but for insulation details, I prefer it like the photo.

To get the trusses to sit that way, re-spec your roof at the depth of the trusses.  Something like 16, not the 5.5 you did.  Specify the 5.5 top chord before drawing trusses, and edit the first truss placed to have the required o'hang of just the top 2x6.  Chief won't do that for you.

In a PM I just sent, I provide more detail.

Thanks Gene, makes better sense now and I believe I got it.

Sit under?  It looks like from where you put the ceiling plane and the roof you have the wall plates where they are specified in the roof structure dialog.  You have roof structure at 5.5 inches.  Did the truss guy say they can span with top chord bearing as you show?

Here is the how I wanted them to sit on top of the top plate. Like I said, I normally can figure out where I went wrong but I messed with so many settings this time I am stumped. I had I-joists and the roof auto build worked perfect but I talked the builder and they preferred trusses for A/c duct. I wish trusses could be set up in the roof structure like the I-joists instead of manually pulling them from end to end. Maybe I'm wrong though. I have the sub fascia and fascia sizes like I want them.

Are you using those for a cabinet maker? When I provide interior elevations I use standard dimensioning a builder would use.

    image.thumb.png.13b502cdd0ffbad4053a68e50dfaad1e.png

No, most builders have their own cabinet guys who take my drawings and do their thing. I still provide them though and just provide as much info as I can.

  13. One thing I have never figured out is how to get the NKBA dims to measure to the center of openings or the rough openings and not the casing. I have checked and unchecked so many boxes in the settings and still nothing? Advice?

    A 30 amp receptacle? 2D, 3D or both?

yes, just a 2d receptacle, just for the electrical plan. Going in a wood shop with a lot of power tools. Sounds like making your own symbol is the way to go......
