Hi Rob, can you extend the attic gable wall and roof out to meet that ridge?
I tried that, and because of the overhang it wouldn't work. However, I may not be seeing what someone else see's that is a solution. The client and I both know so I am having him review it with his builder to see if we should change something or if it can be built on site and not a big deal.

Rob, I think you have decide on looking ugly from where? From a 3D Chief Full Perspective Overview, or Goggle Maps? Or from the ground where everyone will actually see or not see the roof 'cricket'? A simple horizontal roof plane 'cricket' will solve the water problem and should be virtually impossible to see from the ground.
That cricket would have to be above that ridge to be functional, correct? That is what I was saying would look ugly.

I keep everything to 1" or 1/2" except in rare cases where 1/4" is sometimes necessary, for example dimensioning a 6x6 deck post.
As a rule, esp with framing, I would never put 16ths on a plan. That just seems like a good way to catch a nail in your tire. Or other "paybacks."
I hear ya, lol. As long as the foundation and main floor dims match it seems fine to me. I do what I am asked to make it easier in the field.

Have any of you guys ever had a request from the builder to round dimensions to the nearest 1/2", 1" etc just so there are not any crazy fraction dimensions? Sometimes it is inevitable to get those 16th's dims. I can see how they wouldn't want to pull a tape measure to those. Rounding really cleans up the drawing but can it be a bad thing? I mean any design software allows this option.

My question is if sometimes updates to your card cause crashes what is the harm of never updating and leaving well enough alone? I am so far behind on updates for my 3080.

Doors are easy to make or customize.
And much may be done via the door dialog -- have you reviewed your options?
yeah the "lites" option wasn't available to manipulate on these but I will look into further.

You are correct, framing in chief. Luckily, I got out of this one since we are just increasing the pitch on the existing awning I built and no curvature. Good job creating that by the way.

If you go down the list a in your user library and hold the control key you can select the ones you want to delete and delete them all at once Rob
Yeah, I was doing that but it is very time consuming one by one and there may be a lot of duplicates I don't know about, but If that is the only way then that's cool too. I was hoping the program could scan the library to find them.

Happy New Year guys and gals. I am going to be upgrading to X14 soon and want to clean up my library before I migrate it over. Is there any easy way to find all the duplicate items at once and delete? I somehow have every sherwinn williams paint color duplicated as well as other items I obviously downloaded twice from the CA 3d library and forgot I already had them. Thanks

Frieze boards.......now I like that!

Thanks for the replies.....I will try all. This request has been asked for the first time by a builder and I am willing to bet a brick mason already knows that the top row is always a solider course and doesn't necessarily need to see the elevations reflecting it in order to do his job.

Would use molding polyline 1/8" proud of wall surface and apply soldier texture. Generate from exterior room.
Ugh, I hate when we have to manually add stuff stuff like this. Thanks though.

Never liked the door labels because so many times client question why a 26" door and I have to explain it's 2'-6".
Takes me back over 20 years ago when I was a college boy working at a lumber yard learning about door and window sizes & other building materials. Not knowing one day I would be designing homes for a living and being familiar with things like this.

One-Time Payment from SoftPlan version 2020
Upgrade to SoftPlan 2022 $1345- So, as you can see Chief's annual SSA at $595.00 is similarly priced with SP's upgrade cost.
Upgrade Extra Station to SoftPlan 2022 $995*
Upgrade Network Station to SoftPlan 2022 $795**I have a fellow local residential designer who swears by SoftPlan but are the renderings as cool as CA?

I've watched a few tutorials on line and thought it looked complex and cumbersome to do the simplest of tasks but maybe Chief looks the same to a long time Revit user? I have no intention of switching programs for my business but would love to be convinced otherwise just to see some possibilities I may have missed.
I couldn't even get past the floor level settings on the properties box. CA flows easier.....

Revit Comparisons..
For those of you that compare this product to revit(aside from their other professional tools), I will be doing a live stream in the next few months in attempt to hit an 8 hour design and condoc with editorial grade renderings...yes, within 8 hours.
Revit is a joke for blue-collar residential, if you are comparing the two, then you are likely unaware of the various power users here and their associate youtube channelsI tried Revit and do not like it.......CA is much faster for me and I do not have the time to learn a new software. I wanted to give it a try though.

Using Home Designer Pro 21. Gray shadow boxes randomly appear in print only after converting to PDF. PDF appears fine. Does not show in any view in the Chief program. Turned off all light sources in the program before sending to layout, but no luck. Anybody had this issue, and know what causes this?
Very nice elevations.

I hate them unless the home looks nice and it flows together well. Several of the homes in my neighborhood have them and they look nice from the ground level.
