Thanks for the update. Hope they can fix it in X7

Thanks for the info. Title updated.

Horizontal line come & go depending on Zoom level. Is this normal or my poor quality video card?
-
I created a plan & framed the trusses without the addition. Then I created a plan shown with expanded width, first picture. Then I added the addition to the working plan & copied the red, locked trusses to it.
-
Not in the plan I posed.
-
Yes, that is the quick way out & how I do it in ACAD (plan view only). But I wanted the section view I posted & yes it can be done as you illustrated in your Video. Thanks
-
Now that I know how to do it it doesn't take too long. But is is another "Work Around".

Thanks fellas for the time to help. My bad luck that I don't build CA compatible houses. The solution given by Kevin gave me the idea. Build a main house bigger than actual, create the add on trusses trusses. Then lock the envelope of each truss. Went back & shrank to main house to correct size. And to adjust several roof planes to get back to desired size for main house but the trusses created staid in place. What a PITA.
-
Thanks but I did that & two other video's plus invested about 4 hours of research before I posted here. That is what infuriates me. Something that should be so simple is near imposable without the TRICK to the process. If you want to do the typical truss over , no problem. So what makes this condition sooo hard? I haven't found the answer yet. None of this is direct at you Curt. I do appreciate your effort to help.

Simple add on to existing house & need to run new trusses over the existing hip. But I am doing something wrong as it will not build the trusses. Sample plan attached. Thanks Truss Over.plan

Why We Have So Many Questions On These Forums
ACADuser replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in General Q & A
So the question is "Why so many questions?". Wow, reading through the thread for the first time I see many good answers. I've been so busy I haven't had time for any questions lately. I guess I have reached the threshold of "just enough Chief knowledge to get a job out the door". Just yesterday turned over a job to the client which is 21 24x36 sheets. 9 sheets done in ACAD & the others in Chief. Pressure to release the job gave me a rash. I know it should not be that way but it is at times. During the learning period I do not have unlimited time to explore all the videos and read the manual in bed at night. So when I can't quickly find the answer to my CA problem I turn to google. The search engine on this forum is lacking. I have asked a lot of questions during the "get you feet wet" stage. Thanks for all the patience show from the member that have helped me out. Coming for ACAD I can not express the frustration one feels trying to get up to speed quickly in CA. It does manifest itself in many criticism's of CA in my post. Sorry about that. CA does so many 3D viewing & smart objects well that it amazes me how poor the CAD tools are. Some things are soo easy to do while other are near impossible. Can't tell you how much time I spent trying to make an interior thickened slab footing. But the folks here did find a way. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/3300-interior-foundation/?hl=foundation This is an item that we here in Florida that build on the ground & have no basements use a lot. I did talk to tech support & they said I needed training. Well i ask them in a follow up email to show me how it could be done & I got no answer. So again thanks to the folks here. For the new user a simple help too like prompts during the command could help folks to get up to speed. In ACAD (sorry) the dialog box has a question mark next to the X (cancel) that when clicked allows you the click again on a filed to get contextual help. This Floor Level thing is a PITA to get a handle on. Why oh why is there not a comprehensive video on that from CA. Yes there are video's from CA but here is my gripe. CA's video are often marketing tools and use simple examples with simple solutions. They do not tackle 'gotcha' situations. I haven't found a video on: IF you have a stem wall foundation with fill dirt what you should do in the foundation dbx? Floor or No Floor? Floor from below. Floor from above, Who's floor is it & why does it matter? So we build the house from the ground up & you adjust the ceiling heights from the top down? What? OK I'm going to read the book again, just wish there were a few more illustration's, really I do! Gotta run the phone is ringing. I'll put the video on pause & save the plan. I'll read floor chapter again tonight. Thanks for the forum, it's a life saver. -
I have a pop out in front of the house that needs a foundation. So i used the foundation level to draw it & use a solid for the vertical on floors 1 & 2. This is basically a CMU column for looks only. Without a floor & don't see how to control the foundation wall height? Suggestions? Use cmu walls on floors 1 & 2, but I don't want a floor truss? As you can see the foundation is competing with the solid.

Base Tool looks good, I'll give it a try. http://video.chiefarchitect.com/player/player.php?id=818&th=1&autoplay=

I'll take a look. Thanks Perry.

Trying to show an addition to existing house & "Roof Over" with new trusses. Can this be done with trusses?
-
Thanks Jon, added to my Bag of Tricks. Although I don't understand most of the setting in Cameras as I am new to render & Ray trace. Joe, Thanks, I changed the wall type so I would not have to change all the walls in the drawing. I will add a new wall type to the Lib for the next Drawing.
-
I found that setting but mine is 24" Are yours in mm?
-
Changed the wall layer in the wall dbx to White Brick & that solved the problem. Thanks Not sure if that changed the library wall specification too or just the one in the Drawing.
-
I changed the brick wall to White with the paint tool & in some views the brick bleeds through (Z fighting I think) What is the proper way to get a White Brick Wall? Thanks

Wall Under Stair Disappears When Railing Is Added.
ACADuser replied to ACADuser's topic in General Q & A
Monte, Just tried your railing & worked great. I've been putting out fires all day on other jobs and just got back to this one. How did you make the object? I assume you have to make one for every stair because of the varying slope and spacing. I pasted it on the 2nd flight and the existing railing disappeared. Is it considered a Railing Object? I was able to stretch the one on the 2nd floor & looks OK. Thanks for the solution. -

This is how it should be shown on 2nd floor plan view. Done with CAD Lines. -
Wall Under Stair Disappears When Railing Is Added.
ACADuser replied to ACADuser's topic in General Q & A
Thanks for the advise Frank but I think I tried all the work arounds for correct plan view & none work on this project except to draw the stair with CAD lines. So much for automated drawings. See the attached section view. makes the floor area on the 2nd floor look smaller due to top of 2nd flight showing in plan view. -

So the 5 minute operation of adding a closet and closed area under the stair turns into an all day affair chasing answers.
