Is there a way to control whether Chief draws a floor joist under a wall? I have the spacing set to 24" oc...and everywhere there is a wall above that is parallel with the joists...Chief seems to double up the floor joists. Just wondering if there is a control somewhere that determines this... thanks!

Attached are views of library OOB door in with Preference set to Vector and Standard. When set to Standard...it casts a shadow so dark you cannot not even see the raised panels on the door. I'd suggest just keeping your library preference set to "Vector"... Vector View: Standard View - Light side Standard View - Dark Side

Yes...I agree. Just checked my plan "template"...and the exterior door color spec'd in material defaults was black...changed it to white. All is fixed. Thanks for the clarification Dermot. I would never have figured that out... Also...thanks to all you Chiefers that chimed in to help. So much appreciated!

These pics are from X9. OOB door in library is white on both sides. Shown in vector view

It’s not the same for me in X9...I posted pics above. I also changed the default color for doors to white...in material defaults. So...not sure what else I can do. In X10...how do you get rid of the slate blue color?
-
Those pics are from X9. All they are showing is that if you specify one color for the exterior of the door..and another for the interior of the door then in the "Door Default" DBX...in the preview panel, Chief will display the colors chosen. However, in the library, as Michael has stated above...the colors shown are those that were used when the object was created and added to the library. All this still does not clearly explain why an OOB library door symbol appears almost black on one side...and white on the other. Am I the only one that sees this...or is this typical for the X10 library? Even if I set the Preference to "vector view"...the door is almost black on one side. To me it's an X10 issue that needs to be corrected by Chief...

Also...just FYI. I did submit a report on this to Chief. I'll update when I get a response. I gather the response will be something like..."yea, we know...we are working on it".

Thanks Mick...I have changed the preference in both the library...and in "Preferences"...but, it does not change my preview pane display. I'm not sure if I'm seeing "Standard View" or "Vector View"...its almost impossible to tell. Eric...thank you for taking time to try and help me with this. In X9...if I change the color in "material defaults"...then, in defaults, the door preview panels are different colors on each side....but in the library preview panel the doors are white on both sides. I have the library preview panel set to "vector view". The attached pics are from X9.

Changed my Preference as you instructed. Shut down and restarted CA. Didn't change a thing... Is there a way to turn off shadows?
-
You don't get the "show wall" option in the library preview panel...only when you open a specific door/window that's actually in your plan. Is this a bug in X10...should I file a report?
-
I'm not sure how to change to Vector View for the preview pane? See pic below... My preference is set to "Vector View"...but, it doesn't appear to be a vector view. X10 is fun...

Eric...you lost me. The door I'm displaying is in the Core Library...it's not an object I created. It's a standard door. My only issue is why does the door on the exterior side appear to be a dark color. Its so dark I find It hard to believe its a shadow being cast. If I open the exact door in X9 it appears white on both sides...in standard view. It has to be something related to X10...
-
When I open the library in X9...the doors are white on both sides. So...therefore it's got to be a setting in X10. Maybe something I setup differently in X9...or something I haven't setup correctly or differently in X10. What a pain...
-
Chop...no, if you look at the material list for the E14 door...I've specified the exterior side of the door to be "white". Eric...thanks for that info...but I only have one plan open in X10.
-
Can anyone tell me why my doors in the library preview pane appear to have a dark color on the exterior side? My door defaults are set so that each side should be white. So...what other setup could be controlling how these doors are being displayed? Thanks as always for any help! Here are screen clips of my defaults...

I've begun to manage "plan views" in X10. This is a really great new feature...but, the OOB settings are only a start...not the total picture. So, similar to annotation sets to some degree, I think it's necessary to have more defined views...but, I'm not sure and don't want to create a bunch of views if they aren't really needed. So...lets take the OOB plan view called "Electrical Plan View". To me...you need an electrical plan view for each floor? Can a guru chime in and tell me if I'm on the right path? I know you can select "any floor" in the plan view DBX...and use the up and down arrows to move through the floors and the same "view" will be applied to each floor. But...I think you may want to use a different ref set on each floor or maybe have some unique text or something. I'm not sure I know what I'm doing...this is why I'm asking.

I use a MAC. I just use the Chief PDF driver....

Just being able to specify a reference set with a plan view is a gigantic leap forward for Chief. I mean Scott Hall has been requesting this feature for at least the past 3 years...and probably longer. Thanks Chief gurus...that is a biggie
-
Larry...thanks. I have watched that and it's the reason I asked the question...because in the video I believe the narrator mentions that the plan has built in "saved views"....she doesn't state that you have to create them from scratch. I've been experimenting...and this is really a great improvement to Chief.
-
Well...I think I answered my own question. If you use the "Residential Template.plan"...this template comes with a set of "saved" plan views. I gather this is a new template that ships with X10.
-
I've just installed X10...do I need to create my own plan views...or, should the basic "profile.plan" template include some basic plan views. I don't have any...so, that's why I'm wondering. Thanks
-
If you takes Eric's profile and make the bottom flat...change the pitch to 15 degrees if you prefer...save this profile in your library and attach it as a sill it fills the gap. I don't think it's worth the time or trouble to use molding PL to create a "perfect" brick sill...to time consuming. attached is the revised plan with the new sill. Yea...it's not perfect but if you have to draw a section of a standard typical brick sill in exact detail for a brick mason...maybe you need new mason? Erics modified b-sill X9.plan

Can someone take a look at the attached plan and tell me why there is a piece of gable end wall extending past and through the roof? I've tried a lot of things with no luck... It's the rear gable end over the master bedroom...the master bedroom has a vaulted ceiling. I'm wondering if this has something to do with it? Thanks... here's the plan...ranch example plan 1.plan.zip

Scott - did you buy a new MAC? If so...how was it configured? My two cents on the Mac vs PC. I used a PC for twenty years. I loved Windows 7...it was a solid piece of software. But...because I use an iPhone and have IPad...decided to switch when I needed a new computer about 3 years ago. Got an iMac and I’m thrilled with it. Yes...you can build a more powerful PC...but the thing I love about the Mac is it just works. It’s so easy to use...it’s truly dummy proof. Is it the most powerful...no, but it gets the job done.
