  1. This is what I'm talking about...can CA do this?
  2. Yes...but that was 1974. Certainly there has been an advancement?
  3. Speaking of "Circles". Is there a way to draw a CAD Circle and as your drawing it specify either the exact radius or the diameter you want? Let say I want a Circle 10' in diameter...I select the circle tool and draw, hit "tab"...and it brings up the "X" and "Y" dialogue box. If I put 10' in both...I don't get a 10' radius or diameter.
  4. No...not "lines" between two circles. I'm trying to draw a circle tangent to two circles. I know how to do it the "long" way...just wondering if Chief has a tool like AutoCad..."Tangent/Tangent/Radius". Which...with just a few clicks will draw a circle tangent to 2 circles. Thanks!
  5. Is there a tool in CA that will automatically create a tangent arc between two circles...see attached pic? I've tried the Arc Tool..."Start/Tangent/End Arc...but, either that isn't the correct tool or I don't know how to use it (very possible).
  6. Just read this post...and realized the railing had to be specified as "panels". It works...but, its finicky to say the least. Move it in or out just a bit too far and it doesn't follow the stair. I was selecting "solid" (not panels)...needless to say, this is confusing. Solid doesn't follow stairs.
  7. The stair tool in CA is not very useful...Chief should do a series of videos to show users how to accomplish simple stair task. I think those of us who purchased Chief thought the stair tool would be much more "refined"...alas, it's probably the weakest area in CA. I have attached a simple test plan. I placed a simple rail using "rail follows stair". - Why do the balusters not meet the tread? - The balusters spacing stinks...we need the ability to place a number of balusters per stair tread...and the option to space them. - Also...can someone tell me why at the top of the stairs the newel posts don't connect as they would when you build them in the field? It's clumsy at best... Also, I created a "solid railing"...and selected "rail follows stair". But, this option for this style rail does not seem to work...at least it didn't for me. See attached PIC. 8. Thanks Eric...I kept thinking it was an "attic wall"...but, it's really the top of the invisible wall. I'd have never thought of that...thanks again.
  9. For some reason I cannot get an attic wall to generate above an invisible wall in the attached plan. I did a test using an OOB Chief Template plan...and the attic walls work as advertised. Therefore...it seems I've messed with a setting somewhere in my template plan. Can someone look at the attached test plan and see if you can discern what I've done...thanks in advance. 10. Michael, This line in your post was really the point of my asking the question about how long it took you to model that wagon wheel. I find your generosity to this forum absolutely incredible. Not only do you know the software inside and out...you produce videos that are clear, precise and very easy to follow. Every time I see you've posted a video - I make sure to watch...and I'm always amazed. No way could I ever model something as complex as that wagon wheel...and I was stunned when I saw you had posted the symbol. I knew it had to have taken you an incredible amount of time. When I saw what you had done...my reaction was "why would Michael invest the time to do this?" Hey...I'm happy/thrilled that you do, don't get me wrong. However, I think there are a lot of guys on this forum - like me - just happy when we can get a roof on a plan and it looks the way we intended it to look. Thanks again for all your time and effort in helping us all get better. I can't say enough how grateful I am for you, Scott, Joe, Solver...etc. You all have helped me so much I cannot begin to tell you. Donation on it's way...
  11. Inquiring minds want to know...just how long did it take for you to model this fixture? i would love a video on how to model the decorative trim at the base of the globes. Incredible.
  12. Yep...I got it. I created new layer sets for each view. Problem solved. Thanks for helping me out!
  13. I figured it out... The answer is to create new layer sets that turn on the individual layers as needed. Therefore: - Layer Set #1: Base Plan layers - Layer Set #2: Base Plan layers + Fire Pit layer - Layer Set #3: Base Plan layers + Fire Pit layer + Trellis layer
  14. Is there a way to send multiple floor plans to a layout page...with different layers turned on for each time the plan is sent to layout? What I have is a design of an outdoor room...option #1 adds a fire pit. Option #2 adds a trellis over the fire pit. I want to send (3) copies of the floor plan to the same layout...that shows the (3) options. But...it's seems when I turn on the different layers...all the plans show the same thing. Am I missing something? Thanks!
  15. Thanks... no, that isn't a Chief render. Just a pic of a house I found on the web
  16. What's the best method for created exterior stucco walls that look like the attached. The windows on the first floor are recessed back with arches over. The second floor walls line up with the "thick" walls on the first floor. Do I need to use two distinct walls...butt one to the other. Or could I use a single wall and do something with the window. I've done some experimenting...but, haven't come up with a solution that works. I would think the Chief users in Cali would have wall details like this all the time? Also...what's the best method to create the "lintel" shown on the elevation. A moulding polyline maybe? Thanks...
  17. Thanks Glenn! I wouldn't have ever thought to consider that the floor elevation was the cause.
  18. Both plans created in X9. Walls are exact in both plans. I did change the depth of the "opening no mat"...had no effect. Weird...just weird.
  19. Sorry Mick...I don't think that's the issue. I exported the wall definition from the simple deck plan, where the line does not appear...then imported into my more complete railing plan. Both plans are using the exact wall definition. The "opening no material" layer is placed at the top of the main layer in both plans. So...the issue doesn't seem to be the wall def...it's something else. Thanks for taking the time to even look at this...it's not the end of the world really...but, it's crap like this that can make a guy spend an hour trying to fix it...instead of just moving on and living with it. Just makes me crazy... Here is the wall def:
  20. Attached are plans...both using same wall def. Appearance is different. I'm wondering if it's a bug...or, if it's a layer issue? So weird... Here are pics of both decks using same wall type/definition... Here are both plan files... No inner line on this deck rail...DECK RAIL PLAN 3.plan Inner line does appears on this deck rail...Simple Deck with Railing - Wall Line Shows.plan
  21. Well...maybe that's all it is. I'll check this out and report back.
  22. This is why I get confused...is it me or is it a bug in CA? Errr....stuff like this just costs time/money to correct...or, you just accept it and go on. Attached is a simple plan that I created by selecting "new plan"...which is created using my "base template plan". I drew the 4 exterior walls...then I drew the deck rails...which I have defined in my base template plan. As you can see...the deck rail appears just like I would want it to. No inside line. So...why? Why is this wall type working in this plan...but not in the plan previously posted. Thanks again to all that posted help...but, something is still goofy. I'm sure it's a user error issue... Here is the new plan...simple deck DECK RAIL PLAN 2.plan Here is a plan view pic...
