The video which descries new rendering features for X9 makes reference to the new 360 spherical rendering which can be viewed with "a new Chief Architect 360 viewer". Also mentioned are Google cardboard glasses which can be used to view the images. Does anyone have any more details on how to obtain the CA 360 viewer or the Google cardboard glasses? Eric

Without seeing your settings I can only offer advice based on my past experience. Be sure to have plenty of added light (and keep ambient light to a minimum), I would add a light source that is set as a Point Light.. Also, use Photon Mapping & Caustics for the best quality of image. Eric

OK, I've watched the videos and re-read the instructions but what I just don't get is where the values come from and where to apply them and why. Once I understand that part, the rest will make sense. Thanks to everyone for trying to explain this but I guess I'm just too thick to figure it out unless I can have it shown to me directly.

Gene: I have seen these videos on Chief's website. Perhaps one on one consult would be best as the video is quite vague. Eric

Still not sure how you did *** but that's exactly what I need. Many thanks to you! Eric

OK, I'm still not getting it (my brain must be on vacation). What I ultimately want to end up with is a pendant that is 10" in diameter and 30" above the countertop. Even when I resize the object first, it ends up being elongated when I follow the steps you outlined.
-
I entered the values exactly as shown but I still do not get the result you show. The stem lengthens as needed but the fixture is also elongated (as shown in my original image).

The plan is attached. JBS-Kitchen pendant.zip

How do I show that in the dialog box?

Joe: I just tried what you suggested, this is what I got: I also tried +9" and got this: Eric

I am trying to lower a pendant so that it is 30" above the counter. I know that this can be done by adjusting the stretch zone but after watching the video, reading the help section & going through various Chief Talk posts, I still cannot figure out how the values are calculated. Can anyone give me a simple explanation of how to do this?

I recently downloaded the most recent version of Blender and would like to try rendering some of my Chief files. Does anyone know of a good tutorial that reviews the procedure of setting up the camera, lighting and other settings for creating a great render?

In my experience, inadequate lighting is often to blame. Have you included additional light sources?

limitless8 - This video was very helpful to me when I was starting to learn ray-tracing. Please re-post your renderings after you have applied what you learn in the video, I'm sure we would all like to see the results. Eric

limitless8 - As someone who does a lot of Ray-Traces, I can tell you that one of the most important things in achieving a great image is lighting. Once you learn how to properly light a space and also understand the function of the various settings and how to manipulate them, you'll start getting very impressive results. This video from Chief's Knowledge Base https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1909/ray-tracing-tips-and-techniques.html?playlist=103 is well worth watching. It is a great tutorial as it covers the most important steps to creating a great ray-trace image. Eric

I don't remember where I originally got the icon, it's been in my library for awhile. It might be from here http://archive3d.net/?category=2
