I've found that it takes some experimentation with the direction and tilt angle along with intensity of the moon. Have you toggled off the sun?
-
Have you tried working with the 'Generated Sky' controls in the 'Background' tab of the camera DBX? You can control the moonlight intensity, direction and stars.

I did know I could do this! Thanks
I ran into this same problem on a project last year.

One more option for the unwanted Freize section is to unlock the 'Roofs, Trim' layer and then individually select and delete that one section.
-
Just a few simple changes will take care of your issues
- The gutter is there, you just need to change the color so you can see it or view in Vector
- For the roof section where you don't want a Freize, open the DBX and in the "Freize 'tab, delete the molding profile
- For your protruding fascia boards, change the Eave fascia to 6"

Your file is blank. Be sure you close Chief before you upload it to your post.

I'm trying to get the dutch gable roof over the front porch, similar to the front of the garage but can't figure out why it won't work.
I've attached pictures of what I'm trying to replicate as well as the file.
T.I.A. for the help.
Check out this article from the Knowledge Base https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00749/creating-a-dutch-hip-roof.html

I did send them a file. I don’t think I know how to do it. I just wanted to make sure it was possible.
File/Export/Export Current View or Export all floors

Without seeing your plan, I'd say make sure your framing layer is turned on.
-
When I got my new system, I used Zinstall, everything came over without issue Transfer Programs and Files to New Computer, to Windows 11, Windows 10 - Zinstall
As a manual install did not work for you (from a thumb drive??), perhaps you should contact tech support.
-
Sounds simple enough, have you sent a test file to your client to open?
-
- Regarding your first question, I'd use a polyline converted to a molding.
- Wrapping the roof around the house is just a matter of drawing some roof planes
- As you are new to Chief, have you watched this video on drawing roof planes? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/25/drawing-roofs-manually.html?playlist=95

If the latest file you can open is from a few days ago, you may have to rebuild it from that point. Do you have an external backup (cloud or external had drive)?

It sounds like the file is corrupted, do you have any other backups in your acrhive?

On a Mac PBR does not have the raytracing option.
As a result PBR on Mac is not an option most of the time. I find it looks worse than standard render.
On a PC, I agree with you. PBR with raytrace is more realistic out of the box, even.
This is what I was trying to figure out.
I'm actually trying to determine if it is worth it to get a second machine (a PC) just for PBR with raytrace.
I probably won't use it often, but it is another tool in the toolbox.
Still on the fence, though.
Rather than purchasing a separate system just to do rendering. perhaps you should consider switching to PC altogether when it comes time to upgrade your current system.

I’m not looking for more definition, I was just pointing out one of the benefits of plain old standard render.
I really wanted to see how rtrt looks with no effort or tinkering.
The rtrt images you guys posted show that one doesn’t need to do much in order to get a more realistic scene compared to standard render.
I’m still unconvinced I’d use rtrt on a day to day basis.
Even w/o any further edits, a PBR is still a more realistic image than standard view. Here's a PBR I ran (250 samples) using just your settings, no further adjustments...
Even if you don't use PBR on a daily basis, it's definitely the way to go if you want to present your client with a top notch image. That being said, you still need to do some 'tinkering' to get the best result but the more you do, the easier and quicker it gets.

RTRT is more realistic and I like the lighting and shadows.
However, as far as showing a client what their kitchen will look like, I kind of prefer the definition of the doors in the Standard render view.
The outline of the doors and panels are more pronounced. Not realistic but easier to see.
I was going to buy a pc just for rtrt but maybe I’ll wait until Apple catches up.
Rendering is an art and I’m no artist.
I was also trying out a whole bunch of Ai programs over the weekend, but other than using those in the earlier stages of conceptualizing I don’t see a use for them either at the moment. They’re all to destructive to the architecture and building materials.
I really would love to see Chief incorporate some limited Ai in a future version, but only to enhance lighting, shadows, materials and accessories like furniture, vegetation, vehicles and people.
Michael:
If you want more definition of the edges, you can add a line overlay to accomplish this...

Creating Titled Exterior walls
in General Q & A

I had a job like this recently, I drew the walls with poly-lines. It came out pretty nice but as Perry said, it's a pain.
