  1. Rodney:

I'm not sure if your version has this feature but if you can save the drawing as a PDF, then import it into your project you can use it as a template to place your trees.  Go to File/Import and see if there is an option to import PDF. If so, bring in the PDF and set it at the rear of the layer (open the object and click on "place at rear") and then adjust bthe size until it is at proper scale (you'll need some existing dimensions on your drawing to do this). I may not have all of the terms correctly worded as I am writing this from memory but that's the basic idea. Also, it's best to lock the PDF so that it dosen't interfere with your selection of other items placed on top.

Hope this helps, good luck to you.

  2. I just got a request from a good client of mine for a 3D render of a housing development in fall or winter, they want to show the planning board what the view will be like for the neighbors without all the leaves on the trees. I started looking for icons of bare trees and shrubs online and have found a few so far. I also thought about bringing in a snow covered ground image as a material for the terrain. If anyone has ever done a project like this I'd appreciate your suggestions.

  3. I'm having trouble with a Dutch Gable roof on my current project. I've viewed the video on building a Dutch Gable and have gotten most of the roof completed but it needs some fine tuning. I can't get the fascia right on the large gable in the center and I also cannot get a full return on the east (right) elevation gable as shown on the drawings. Also, some of the roof planes do not seem to meet correctly. My plan file and elevations are attached.

  4. I am looking for a simple video editor and am sampling Snagit & it's big brother Camtasia. I would ilke to import my Chief file (.avi) and add fades, captions and a soundtrack and then save it as an MP4 or MOV. Has anyone had experience with either of these programs or any other that would do the same?

  5. I have been asked to Ray Trace some file which were created in Revit. I have been sent files in DXF, DWF, FBX & RVT. The only one I can import in X6 is DXF which does not give me 3D. My customer says that the FBX file will have everthing I need but X6 will not open it. I tried to import it into SketchUp Pro but same problem. Does anyone know of a way to get this file into a Chief compatible format?

  6. I am trying to create a herringbone pattern with a hardwood floor (similar to the attached image). I tried specifying the pattern in materials definition window but this only works for vector views not 3d and it also does not have an effect on the plank size. Has anyone else been able to achive this?
