I have an existing house that the owners want to demolish the cement block stair and landing for their main entrance I am going to put a new 5'x8' landing with 4' wide stairs …. it is about 40" from ground to the main floor. I want to put diagonal lattice around the bottom but I cannot figure out how to install the lattice with Chief can anyone point me to a help video or the correct tool / sequence to make this happen ?

at the advice of friends I purchased Softplan about 3 years ago...tried it for a year...saw no advantage and decided to sell it I think my Softplan friends just had no idea of the ease of use of Chief your experience may vary- 13 replies

Hi Mini...... there are two things your are thinking of investing... one is money... and the other is time if you are willing to invest the time... then you are PROBABLY better off with Premier there is a long history of some people buying Chief for a one-off project and then selling their license here ... there is a transfer fee that has to be paid.. but it is legal to sell as long as the transfer fee is paid who knows... you may find that you become proficient enough and enthused enough that you will want to continue designing with Chief after your project is completed

excellent video... thanks

any PE work or Survey or Legal is an add-on in my Design Contract
-
Paramount since you are Design/Build... do you use your Design portion to sell the Build portion ? I price my design work to compensate myself for my time... but my real goal is to get the Build contract I use flat rate.... a bath might be $500 and addition might be $2000 a new home might be $5000 - $10000 I am the only one who can build from my plans.... so almost 100% of our design work become Build Contracts

my favorite is Architectural Graphic Standards... I still have my 7th edition... now I think it is the current 11th edition http://www.amazon.com/Architectural-Graphic-Standards-11th-Edition/dp/0471700916 another great reference is my "Time Saver Standards"... my edition is the 4th...think the current one is the 8th http://www.amazon.com/Time-Saver-Standards-Architectural-Design/dp/0071432051 I learned with paper , rule, triangle and pencil... don't know what the schools teach for basics anymore

I don't think they are going to AUTO-upgrade everyone... they will just stop supporting Win 8 at some time
-
milestown I agree with Scott,.... i'd go straight to X8... the improvements are vast I'm Design/Build... so my proficiency is not the same as it might be if I spent full time doing just design But I have been using this program since version 5.. after so many years I make it a habit to upgrade with each new version... it always seems to be worth it the basics pretty much remain the same , but the enhancements are always worth it once you get current, the annual SSA fee becomes minimal I used to do my training in Maine with Berryvale... after Steve left I continue with my training at ChiefExperts.com

David are you trying to learn Chief Architect ...or are you trying to learn how to design buildings ?

Dale... the clothes closet has doors on two sides ..??? the entry door is only 28 " ...can you find room for 32" or even better...34" I would like to see the toilet area expanded by 6" so there is 36" clear... steal 6" from the vanity I like to try and build our bathrooms to ADA guidelines.....usually helps with our aging in place population

David your link to daylight basements works... but the links in your signature did not work for me HTTP 404 error That’s odd... Microsoft Edge can’t find this page

thanks everyone... that is the process I use... but it seems awkward I would think it could be one of the sub-choices of a "fixed " window
-
what is the easiest way to create a screened window ? why isn't a screened window one of the choices in "window types " ? if I go to various sites and use a search function " screened porch".. I get " no results " I know this must be pretty basic but it is not coming thru
