@Grayling We currently use this.. https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/smart-monitors/43-m70b-uhd-usb-c-smart-monitor-streaming-tv-ls43bm702unxza/ Our conference room is 10’ x 15’ We have the monitor at the end of our rather small conference table (3’ x 7’) which is centred in the room, seating 6 people. I sit almost next to the monitor and work from my laptop. I wouldn’t want to work looking at that monitor from that distance but it works well for people sitting further away around the table.

But it looks cool in demo videos to sell more subscriptions. You're totally missing the point. Now, get back to work and don't forget to extend your SSA.

I was hoping, for some reason, that with the new X16 that maybe, maybe,... there would be improvements in the 3D viewer? As with most of Chief's features and tools, the latest version adds some nice shiny new tricks, but does absolutely ZERO! to fix existing problems and shortcomings of the software. It's pretty frustrating. I'm forced to use TwinMotion for sharing a 3D model. Not a bad predicament since I've become quite comfortable with the software, it's just a shame and a disgrace, quite frankly that the 3D viewer tool still sucks as hard as it does.

@Renerabbitt That's the first time I see a chair leg actually look like it's sitting on the floor and not look like it's hovering 1/8" above. Was this rendered solely in X16?

Foundation Wall not extending to main floor wall
Michael_Gia replied to ChiefUserRosalie's topic in General Q & A
This gets posted a lot. It happens to me from time to time and I never remember what I did at the time to resolve this very unsettling occurrence. Sometimes it's the wall definition that I messed with and sometimes I build the floor framing and it gets resolved. I can't remember, though. Try reading this.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00038/resolving-a-gap-between-floors-in-camera-views.html -
Thursday Webinar with Live Q&A, May 9th - X16 What's New
Michael_Gia replied to ChiefArchitect's topic in Announcements
50%? more like 90%. I really wish they would tell people to ask only X16 related questions. That was our opportunity to hear more about X16, not someone droning on about some issue they're having. Great release, though. Looks like X16 is as great of a bump as X15 was, maybe better? -
Challenges Integrating a Walkout Basement into a Sloped Property
Michael_Gia replied to yenegsome's topic in General Q & A
@yenegsome I'm sure you’ll get some help on this, but in the meantime watch this, linked below. It's truly the greatest instructional video on terrains you’ll ever see. -
Why is the "formatted size" different from my door size? I really just need a column that can display the door size and hinge side. I was hoping the "size column" could do that. The image below shows a 30" x 84" door but the size column shows 2670 L What does the 2670 refer to and how to correct? Why is this so confusing or am I that dense? (highly possible)

It's your very green and shiny background with that horrible out of the box grass. Experiment with different backgrounds. Try the "Cloudy Sunset" from the Chief Bonus catalogue just to see the effect. With a dark background like that one you get a lot less interference with light bouncing around on the inside. If it's too dark on the inside you can increase exposure and light intensity. It's always easier to increase brightness than to darken an over lit scene.

@TeaTime @JKEdmo I added a stud on the interior and a stud in the main layer of the wall. This is how it frames...

Why not just define one giant wall? (like in the bottom of the image)

How to draw a flat-hip combined ceiling like this?
Michael_Gia replied to leyi123's topic in General Q & A
Make sure "flat ceiling" is checked in the structure tab of the room dialogue box. there's nothing special to do. The roof is cutting the ceiling because the fascia is lower than the ceiling. if you want the ceiling to follow the slope of the roof then just uncheck "flat ceiling". -
The simplest way is to print at 1/2 scale. In the Print View dialogue box. > Drawing Scale > Check Plot at “1/2 Scale” Since 11x17 is roughly half of 24 x 36 you might only need some minor tweaking of objects too close to the edge. Adjust those and you’re all good. Be aware that your scale reference which was probably set at 1/4” in now effectively 1/8” once printed. You might want to change that on your plans as well.

If you create the stairwell with a room which includes, not only your steps but also includes the landing then, the open-below room will have the default ceiling height of your 1st floor, so there’s nothin to do beyond that. The landing gets adjusted when properly snapped to the two stair runs. The other way is to use a separate room to define the landing, and another room with an open-below room for the 2 stair runs. You would then drop the floor level of the landing room to the height you need to accommodate the stairs. With either option you’re never adjusting the ceiling height.

Hopefully it works more like it does in Archicad where you define a colour and fill pattern for the walls, floors, etc, when they get cut by a section.
-
The announcement only says Mac raytracing, which we already have, so I think they mean realtime raytracing or whatever that greyed out section is called when you do PBR. Also excited to see poché fill. I guess we're finally getting cut fills for sections and maybe even 3D views?
-
@DefinedDesign You can adjust the handrail peeking out on the landing by adjusting the grab handle of the railing wall at the break you inserted. The grab/break handle determines where the railing ends.
-
You can lower the floor level of the “open below” room by 28-1/4”, so that your door will sit at the proper level. No need to lower the door. An open below room behaves the same way as other rooms.

In Quebec we have 3d detail drawings available which are up to date with the same building code version as in Ontario. They're available on our builders association website APCHQ or the builder's bonding and guarantee website GCR. I'm sure you guys have similar in Ontario, just ask a local builder which association he is a member of. You should see their logos on any certified local builder's website, even. Of course they're in French but I'm sure you have something similar in Ontario. You could still click around and copy the images and make those part of your detail drawings. (along with some google translate) Here is a link to our builders association website: https://www.apchq.com/entrepreneurs/technique/fiches-techniques here's an example.... 93131 JLV.23 TECH Fiche technique S5-01-02 VF.pdf

@westvale Here is about the best I can do on a Mac. If you find this good enough for publication (I don't) then here are my settings. One important thing is to use a proper backdrop as the backdrop will affect lighting. The reason you're getting the washed out look is mostly due to your white background. On a Mac a more subdued background like some of the Dusk skies are usually easier to work with as they are darker. It's easier to increase brightness than to decrease it. @stevenyhof credit to Steven for the background image below.

You can do a pony wall where the bottom portion is your 4” high concrete stemwall and the top portion is your barn wall at whatever thickness. Just be careful of how you’re aligning the top portion over the bottom one. I’m assuming you’ll want the outside to outside alignment, since you wouldn’t want a concrete ledge going around the outside perimeter. The future 4” slab can go in whenever you want as the floor structure. I don’t think you need a floor finish. That’ll be provided by the cows, I guess… I'm not sure what “existing road base” is? Is that just your terrain going through the barn?
