  1. Is this possible? I am pretty sure I have asked this same question in the past and there was a way, but I have forgotten and no luck using a search so far. To clarify I would like to be able to change multiple rooms at once instead of having to open each rooms strucutre dbx one at a time. When I select multiple rooms, the heights in the strucutre dbx are greyed out. I'm not looking to do the entire level because I have some areas that are correct. Anyway please let me know what the options are. Thanks a bunch!
  2. Can someone remind me where the setting is to switch display of beams and joists from center line only to the width?
  3. Thanks for the ideas. I will see if trimming down my ram usage helps. Windows 10 is not so bad once you get familiar with it.
  4. I'm using a Microsoft Surface Pro4, I5. This does not have a dedicated video card but uses the Intel HD graphics 520 which I believe is integrated. I realize this is not officially supported by Chief but it has been working perfectly on X8 and just started getting problems after moving to the X9 Beta. It only happens so far in elevation or section views. It get the notice (see the attached image) and then the sections are not view-able and I have to close Chief and restart. Hopefully this will be taken care of for the official release. I've moved several of my big projects to X9 and this is turning into a major issue.. like if it does not get fixed I will need to buy a new computer. Thats a big problem! video card problem.pdf
  5. Thanks Dermot! It was right under my nose the whole time. Hard to understand how I missed it. senility must be setting in
  6. I tried that and I'm still unable to get this to work. When I choose panel then the cable option is greyed out and the railing is solid. Your picture is exactly what I want!
  7. I'm getting a problem where cable railing is rotated 90 degrees about the Z axis from correct. I tried dragging a railing style out of the library and appying it to a stair, and I've also tried just switching the baluster style manually wit the same result. 8. Would be nice if this worked similar to autocad. If you click then pull left it's a crossing box, click and pull right it's a selection box
  9. I'll post up a sample shortly but the thing that is confusing is this sometimes happens in a completely symmetrical plan.. Both sides exactly the same yet one side is colored and the other not.
  10. Why does Chief color in some items like framing members or footings, but other items are just an outline? What is confusing is I will cut a section with the exact same foundation stem wall on both sides, but one side will be colored in and the other not. See attached example.. these footings are not identical due to the garage but many times it is exact and I see the same problem. Section Question.pdf
  11. Is there a way to tell Chief not to do double joists under walls?
  12. I know this is not industry standard, but I started doing my section and detail call outs without the lower part that indicates which sheet to look on. My feeling is the sheet index indicates which sheets the details and sections are on, and usually there are only a few sheets of each so it's not hard to find. Been doing it for years with no complaint. I do agree that Chief is frustrating coming from autocad. It's getting better but it has been a very long process and still quite a ways to go for me.
  13. I've added a sloped ceiling plan in a room, turned off the auto ceiling in the room dbx so I could see the vault. The problem now is crown molding does not follow the slope. (image attached) Whats the best way to handle this? crown molding issue.pdf
  14. I'm running chief on a surface pro 4 i5 with integrated graphics only. It runs just fine. Some of the bigger models (7000sf 2 story) get a bit slow though.
  15. Thanks for the ideas. Very much appreciated
  16. Thanks Gene, it does appear that your setup is correct. I will check my wall settings.
  17. Related question, is it now possible to create a U shaped stair with a non-curved landing, with the second half of the landing raised one step? The only way I could pull this off was using two separate stair objects.
  18. And as far as the raise lower birds mouth dialog, this seems like a really awkward way to do things. I can't think of any situations in residential construction where you would want anything other than having your work point on either inside face of stud or outside face of stud. If you did come across an odd condition you could just move it manually and be done. In my opinion whoever designed this interface does not understand framing very well.
  19. The problem for me seems to be that the baseline for my roofs is not being placed on the face of stud but rather it is on outside face of wall which is an inch or so past depending on the wall assembly. Is this a problem that can be fixed in my wall assembly? If it would at least generate correctly for truss condition that would be better than is currently happening.
  20. Is there a way to get roofs to maintain the correct pivot point so if you want to change slope it pivots about edge of stud? It appears to pivot about face of wall. What would really be nice is if I could have it pivot about inside face of stuf for hand stacked roofs and outside face for truss roofs.
  21. Roger that. I'm also doing manual roofs 100% of the time now. Finally got the hang of it but I'm always interested in new methods.
  22. DZ, can you elaborate on this method a little bit? It sounds interesting
  23. It looks interesting but from what I understand the only way to get this into cad format is to send it in and pay $29 per room. That is a deal breaker for me if its true.
