  1. Make sure rebuild attic walls is checked under defaults/general walls. I find attic walls to be finicky but that's the first thing I'd check
  2. Thank you sir, that makes a lot of sense
  3. Say you have 20 or so wall styles and you want to change the line weights. Is there anyway to do this by layer or are we stick with having to edit each style?
  4. It's something to do with rooms I believe. In some cases I'll have part of a wall showing siding and part of it drywall where another room starts. The room types were the same though. Very frustrating
  5. Okay, I'll post it shortly. I did check that though
  6. I've been working on getting my start up template dialed in. I used it to start a new project today and am getting some unexpected results. Some of my interior walls are showing exterior siding as a surface material. When I open the wall dbx, and look under wall types the materials are set to drywall but the preview shows it as siding as well. Somehow it's getting overridden. Can anyone shed some light on this?
  7. I usually google it and most of the time I get a link to this forum. My biggest mistake was not paying for the chief tutor videos right away. That would have saved me countless hours

  9. If you are interested let me know and I'll email you a set of my architectural and structural plans
  10. I've used the edit all roofs to switch to an exposed rafter with a profile on the end.
  11. Well I complain a lot but I'm not going anywhere. I just bought a second seat of chief. The bummer is I still do all my framing and other structural plans on autocad LT after exporting the walls. Between general Annotation tools and grids it's much faster on autocad for the time being. If chief added some basic improvements I could see potentially changing that.
  12. You can use the modify all roof planes at once command. Not as easy as match props but usually i work off that now rather than work on a single roof to get the build dialed.
  13. Niche tools and more 3D view options are cool but in my opinion Chief is already really good in that area. I wish they would work on the construction docs side of things. Grid bubble tool... It's inconceivable that this does not exist! It needs to be viewable on all floors just like cameras. This is my number one complaint that you can't have a layer that is viewed on all floors. As a structural engineer grids are essential. I need to be able to reference them in my calcs (example: Roof beam along grid A)
  14. If you are determined, nothing can stand in your way. I would recommend getting a really tight set of construction docs together, as well as some 3D views. Hit the streets with printed samples. Target contractors first. Architects, engineers, and interior designers tend to be harder to approach without an introduction.
  15. It seems like the overall theme is to attract new users is more important than keeping existing users. It really could be a great piece of software if they grow in the right direction.
  16. I had problems at first with this as well coming from autocad. This is what did it for me. The first click should not be directly on what you want to dimension. The first click should be a ways away from the objects, but within your "reach" setting. Give that a shot
  17. I'm having trouble finding where to set the joist type for floor framing defaults. The framing dbx allows me to choose the rim joist type (I-joist, Lumber, etc) and the height, but this control is not there for the regular joists. I've been searching defaults for quite some time with no luck. Please advise
  18. I came from autodesk architectural desktop. I like chief quite a bit better but there are a few things that are troublesome. The biggest lose in my opinion is not having a grid system tool. This is exacerbated by not being able to draw a line or other object and have it visible on all floors. When I see a set of drawings without a grid system it is usually a red flag that it might not be up to industry standards. The snaps need to be functional on more objects. They work well on objects that you are allowed to snap to but many objects do not allow snapping. There are many advantages that make up for these things but it just seems crazy that Chief won't fix things like this.
  19. Holy cow, I just tried the export and that is brilliant! I wish I had someway to have the walls labelled so I could verify everything is coming through correct easier. Thanks for the quick responses. You guys are great. I'm almost getting dangerous at Chief!
  20. Is there any helpful tools I can use to get wall and fenestration areas for use in rescheck? I've only come across per room articles. What I'm after is exterior wall total surface area and total window surface area, and door also. I typically do it by hand but curious if chief can help.
  21. I get this on occasion. Imalso have the opposite problem on some interior walls. I'm sure there's an easier way but try deleting the roof and then add a new roof. Make sure rebuild attic walls is on in defaults under walls, general walls
  22. Anyone know of a way to simulate this look or a material available? I'm thinking of a white plaster over brick with occasional spots of the brick showing through. This is for an interior pizza oven in a kitchen
  23. I think it's whatever your drawing defaults are set to in the autocad file that is choosing the units. Just type units in autocad and change them to what you want
