  1. Once you turn on fill, since it's not on its own layer then it's on all the time. Doesn't work for framing plans or if you want dashed roof lines on your architectural floor plan. Unless I'm missing something?
  2. Is there a way to get the door tags in feet and inches with the inches portion raised? This is what I'm used to seeing for industry standard. Reads like 3 "ohh" six eight for example.
  3. The problem is not roofs below, it's the portion of a roof that extends below another. This typically happens at valleys when California over framing us used
  4. It seems I'm stuck manually drawing roof lines for now. I hope chief gives us some better tools in the future. A separate layer for fill would be great. Also a tool to create a polyline around a roof plane similar to the room polyline function would also be helpful. Ultimately if the roof objects were smart enough to know which areas were over framed, similar to a pony wall, that would be perfect. Being able to change roof styles for roofs below so the plywood continues but roofing material stops and also plan view display. It's a good dream but it does not seem like chief moves very quickly on things like this. It's really too bad. Chief is so great for a lot of things but still comes up short
  5. Us autocad converts need cad tools as a crutch until we get fully integrated. I would not doubt if many users give up and move on because the cad tools are not intuitive. Well maybe familiar is a better word.
  6. Like I said, if you have an over-framing area, then you have two roofs overlapping and the roof lines do not look correct. Transparency is a good idea, I'm looking into that. Thanks DZ Another related question, is it possible to turn on roof fill (think shingles) on one layer set (the roof plan) but not another (the floor plan)? It does not appear to have a layer built into the roof object for the fill.
  7. I'm looking for a slick way to get my roof lines to look correct in plan view. The problem with just using the roof plane lines is they often are not suitable due to over framed areas. If I trim and connect the roofs so they look correct in plan, then sections will not build correct.
  8. As a long time autocad user, I agree that the cad tools are extremely frustrating. It will get better if you stick with it.
  9. I deleted the camera and made a new camera and working fine now. I looked through all the settings and could not find any difference from the other cameras.. Possible bug? Anyway I'm good now
  10. Is this in the layout tools or the plan file? The problem is only on the front elevation. The other three are working perfectly. I change the color in the layout box DBX under plot lines and all the patterns change color.
  11. I've sent an elevation view to a layout an chosen the "Plot Lines" option instead of live view. Under options I'm trying to change the pattern color and it does not seem to be working. I tried changing it to red just as a test and it is saving the setting in the DBX but the elevation view is not changing. The line weight portion seems to be working but not the color. What am I missing? Screenshot attached. plot lines problem.pdf
  12. Anybody? I'm starting to think moving the roofs up to floor 2 was a mistake. I have not seen this done in any example videos and I just finished watching several on Chief tutor. Anyway I've got them working but if I try to add the trey ceiling below the attic my dormer walls disappear.
  13. Is this possible. I like to see how the dimensions are actually scaled and would prefer to not have them dynamically scaling. Also is it possible to turn off the auto orbit in overviews? When I 3d pan, it seems like its really hard to release the mouse button and have the view stop. It keeps going into orbit on accident. Thanks Chieftalk!
  14. Okay, I've been fighting this for days and as soon as I posted the plan I figured part of it out. I've got a portion of the ceiling below raised as a tray ceiling. For some reason as soon as I delete this the dormer walls work as expected. The problem is I need to keep a raised ceiling AND have a dormer. Maybe someone can recommend an alternate solution?
  15. Here is the plan file. I've got the attic walls drawn in, and a hole cut in the roof but something is cutting the walls down and not allowing them to extend up out of the roof. Please help!! Schricker_House_-_10-31-16_-_guest_idea.plan
  16. Here is a screen shot of the problem. I'm also getting an error message about a platform. I'm not sure what it is referring to and possibly is related to the problem. I'll post the plan file in the next post dormer screenshot.pdf
  17. I'm still having trouble with this. The client wants to add a new dormer and I've tried manual as well as auto dormer. The walls won't show in any views other than plan. I cut a hole in the roof and I can see a few inches of wall before it gets cut. Not sure what's going on? It's almost like the wall is trimming to a roof
  18. I agree the auto orbit is annoying and I find its hard to stop and release the mouse without it going into orbit. Would like to know how to disable this feature as well
  19. Seems like a simple task but its escaping me. I have a two step interior stair and I don't want to see any railings. Where do I turn these off?
  20. That did it for the attic walls. What I still don't understand is how you keep them from generating in the first place.
  21. Another question.. how do I stop interior walls from automatically generating attic walls? I have the check box for stop wall at ceiling above checked but I am still getting auto walls up on my attic level. Chief will not let me delete them either.
  22. So roof objects on floor 2 along with the attic and dormer walls?
